It is impossible to find true happiness in a modern society.
If we travelled back to our grandparent’s time we would see how happy everyone is with the smallest house, with the least clothes and the least food. Because they realized the value of life! They knew that life not about big houses or nice shoes. They knew that there are bigger things in life but now it’s a catastrophe if you don’t have the newest dress, according to the newest trend! In those days people knew that happiness is in relationships, in family but now people think that happiness resides in the clothes or shoes in the shopping malls. As well as this the constant evolving of the newest technology is makes kids evolve away from their parents. Then there are the constant demands of the society to be perfect. Perfect in looks perfect in everything you do, in things that don’t matter. Today’s modern society is blind to the true happiness of life!
In today’s society there seems to be no difference between need and want. Specially in our generation and I know this first hand as sometimes I say I “need” something that is totally unnecessary. We think newest clothes for the new season are the things we need; and it’s not the girls that do this I mean guys do you really need 50 basketball caps' These things are not life’s necessities. Our modern society is so confused over the meaning of what life is. The modern society thinks happiness lies on the countless clothe racks. Year in year out we spend our hard earned cash on stupid things we don’t need. And those who don’t have enough money end up being under a pile of debt. This eventually starts giving you tension that is uncalled for. You already have more important things to worry about like your ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend. That is the thing that brings you down and makes you unhappy. You don’t need to worry about these things if you didn’t pay attention to things you don’t need.
How much time do you spend on the internet week searching up plastic surgery, dieting, family planning and emotional support' Well the daily mail website reported that the average teenager spends 31 hours per hour on these topics. Most of which should be discussed with your parents but our generation finds it better to waste time online rather than talk to our parents who actually have experience with this stuff. The site also reported that one in four teenagers admit to regularly talking to strangers online rather than the people sitting right outside in the living room. Why is it we do this then' Talk to people we don’t know. People that may not be who they say they are' It’s because we are unhappy and want to look for someone to talk to but somehow we forget that we do have someone to talk to it’s our family, our parents. And I know what you may be thinking, that your parents won’t understand your problem or what you may be going through' Yeah maybe but have you ever tried talking to them about it' You know they aren’t magicians, they won’t dream about your problem. The only way they can help you is if you talk to them.
The modern society gives so much importance to things that require none, for example the fashion industry. Unless you’re a big designer or an A lister star, the perfect image of beauty shouldn’t matter. The idea of the perfect body seems appealing but let’s thinks about the journey to that body. A lot of stars regularly go to the gym and eat very healthy diets in order to have and keep their ‘perfect’ body but the normal women don’t have time for this so they look for short cuts. They start to ‘diet’ which normally means skipping meals and maybe eating one thing in a day. Some even go to extreme lengths for their ideal ‘perfect’ body. This results in fatality, according to bulimiahelp.org 150, 000 women die each year from “dieting related causes”. All this shows just how obsessed this society is with this sick idea of beauty that it can’t just let people be who they in a safe, healthy way.
In today’s society we are never going to achieve the happiness we need and want if we don’t look around and really see what matters. This life is a very short one, 954 months short. We need to learn to get off our computers and talk to our parents without starting world war three. We need to get off Facebook and actually meet our friends face to face. We need to learn to shrug off the constant unnecessary demands of this modern society. We need to stop getting our selves unnecessary complications in life. We need to live a happier life. A life lived on your terms not the society’s. It’s time we took command of our own lives. It time we bring happiness to ourselves rather than waste a life time waiting for someone to hand it to us. Because let’s face it no one ever will. We have to take what is ours.
