How e-mail would benefit an organization is that when they e-mail, it makes it easier to get feedback from customers. Also, they can use the e-mail for other clients to get information to from. E-mail is a good thing, but it can also lead to a bunch of junk mail. But, that is why there is the fact that when you do get junk email, you have a spot for it. Another thing is that when employees have an e-mail, they can correspond with customers, and future customers easier. The reason why an organization would want to limit how an employee uses the e-mail is because the employees might start using it as their own e-mail. Also, e-mail is not what it is once thought of. The reason why I say that is because e-mail is an opportunity for people to give your personal information out to other places, and get e-mails from people or places you do not even know. Once an e-mail leaves an organization, the business or personal information is carried with the company name, and if anything illegal is in there, which falls back on the company or place it came from. The e-mail goes to its designated sender.
The effect of instant messaging on organizational networks is that whether the instant message is good or bad, it can be under surveillance of anybody outside of the company, and can be held against the company or not. People and businesses can use instant messaging. The plus side of using instant messaging for both personal use and business use, is that you can send somebody an instant message, and receive a quicker feedback time response, as to using the e-mail process. Instant messaging is like real time video chat in a way, because you can get a response within seconds. Instant messaging is also free, so the company can save money, and still make a good profit. The drawback of using instant messaging in an organization is that when you are having networking and server problems, you will probably not be able to get that message to the destination you want it. Also, when you are using instant messaging in your organization, the employees might not be working on things they should be for your organization, and using it for their own personal problems. I think it is better than using email, but they are both free, and get the message out. Also, you will still have employees who might be goofing off, and not doing what they are supposed to be doing.
The benefits of using web pages and search engines in an organization is that you can get information you need from the internet, so your company can make a profit. Also, I think another benefit of using these two things is that when your company uses the internet, which is search engines, and web pages, you can get some sources for more and maybe better products for your company. A drawback for using web pages and search engines is that when you have all of your employees using these two thing, and the internet, all of them might not be using it for your gain. They might be using it for their gain, and ultimately, not being productive, and losing your organization money. That is the biggest drawback. But, another drawback is that if one of the employees download something from the internet and get a virus in the system, you will be in trouble. You or nobody will be able to get anything form the internet, and all of the personal information will be in somebody else’s hands. That might be the biggest drawback yet, but that just comes with the territory. So, whether you are at home, or at work, you will be at risk.
Yes, I think managers should monitor the use of employee e-mail and internet usage. That is because not every employee will be on the internet for your benefit. They will be on there or there benefit as well. They might check their e-mail, and be on Facebook, or Twitter, or any other website other than what they should be on. When you have a controlled environment, you will have more productivity, and less goofing off, and not much losing profit. That is the main thing, because there is a lot of money at stake, and the longer it takes for your employees to get the information needed, the more money coming out of your pocket. That is where you hire somebody to help you control those types of situations, and stop them from happening. I think that if I was there at an organization, and I had access to the internet, I might go on there from time to time to do what I want if I know I can get away with it. I know that I am not the only one who thinks like that. I am there to make money, but if it gets too stressful for me, then I would go and do something else for the time being.
