Should we stay or should we go'
Have you ever felt that someone’s presence was wrong' Well that’s how the Iraqis & Afghanis feel about the United States in their home. Do you think we should stay or should we go' Some people believe that we should leave Iraq because the civilian and troop death toll has become unnecessary. Those same people believe that $720 million each and every day is too much to spend especially when our government is complaining about money shortage. Others believe that if we leave terrorist groups will become very powerful and overwhelming to the civilian population. I believe that we should go and that we have over stayed our welcome.
The death toll in Iraq has exceeded 34,000 and the list of wounded are increasing as we speak from 30,000 and up. When the United States was attacked on Tuesday, September 11, 2001 every citizen wanted to back to Afghanistan and Bomb every town and so George W. Bush launched Operation Active Endeavour & Operation Enduring freedom. After that there has been over 18 operations each causing more civilian deaths than the population of Rhode Island. The death toll of civilian deaths has more than just sad it has become unnecessary and hard to look at. Especially when
these are civilians and over 1,000,000 have been killed. The war has not only affected the dead but it has greatly affected the wounded, 55% of the 30,000 wounded have to be in intensive care for the rest of their Adult lives. The other 45% have come home with frightening images, Dreams, and flash backs that will haunt them forever. Its become so horrible for some that a man, McGinnis, who sustained a traumatic brain injury, extensive shrapnel wounds, damage to his eye and amputation of his left leg above the knee from an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) while serving in the U.S. Navy in Iraq, said, “I wrote Exit Wounds because when I was struggling with horrific pain caused by my injuries, there was no guide, no map, no mentor to steer me through the minefield I was navigating. Exit Wounds contains the information my family and I desperately needed back in 2004.” The Iraq war has turned grown men into sobbing little girls and has greatly changed how families will continue the rest of their lives.
Secondly the war has cost the U.S. a great deal of money. The Iraq war has cost more money than any war has cost the United States. The war has cost $993,418,628,993 ($993 billion) (costofwar.com). Because of the raise in price every second, every community in the United States has been forced to pay an extra $8,841. Ever since the war on “Terror” has begun many people have lost their job and often time’s troops have to come home to nothing because the price of owning a house and paying tax has become overwhelming. Since the war in Iraq it gave the countries mini depression into a slow melt down which soon escaladed into more and more people being “let go”. Tesia Wildroudt says “The war in Iraq has severely damaged the quality of life in the US… but I think our time there has been way to long. Our economy has suffered tremendously due to the war the prices of so many things has sky rocketed, and it is all linked to the war.
I am all for defending our country, but the US is in such distress over it still going on. The price of gas, food, and other necessities is outrageous, not to mention that more and more people are loosing there homes because of the affect this war is having on the overall economy.” (Helium.com) The war has caused problems that could have prevented these events.
The war in Iraq is viewed by many people to be just. Those who believe that it is just think that our presence In Iraq is needed to keep the balance between the terrorists and the civilian population. People believe that our presence has stopped and slowed the all out Civil War in Iraq. They also believe that if we left the Iraq the Officials wouldn’t believe in American assurances of support for reform and would have to retreat into the shadows -- or find themselves at the mercy of fascist killers. But the Battle between religions and civil war has been going on since the start of civilization in Iraq. We should not disturb what we weren’t invited to. Others believe that our stay in Iraq is long over due and we should leave before they turn on us since 87% of its population doesn’t want us there. Those who support the war say that if we leave, Iraq will become a Breeding “ground” for terrorists. Maybe, but we have trained so many Iraqi and Afghani troops that we should be able to leave and let them take over much like we have now. I believe we should leave because Iraq is not our land to control and conquer it still belongs to the millions of people who live there.
The Iraq war has been long over due but yet we continue to kill hundreds of people. The war has been a mistake and now we should leave before more young men have to die to prove my point. The war on terror has caused more unnecessary deaths than any war we have fought; the death toll is rising in the hundreds every month! Money seems to be an issue when it comes to war but yet we drive our selves to scrounge for money until we go into depression. We’ve sent so many troops over that it will cost so much money to return them, so why send them in the first place' NO MATTER THE COST THEY MUST BE BROUGHT BACK!
