Introduction to DoTA DoTA stands for Defense of The Ancients is a role-playing strategy multiplayer online game. DoTA is quite a complicated game which requires a lot of practice and team work. I will help you to get to know about this game better. First of all, as a strategy game, DoTA requires a lot of tactics and thinking when you play it. There are about 97 characters called heroes (will be updating for more later) and divided into two sides, one is called the Scourge (bad side) and the other is the Sentinel (good side). The main goal of a match is each team will try to destroy the enemies’ ancient artifact Heroes are also divided into 3 main groups base on their main stats. There are Strength heroes, Intelligence heroes and Agility heroes. Each hero will have 3 standard skills and 1 ultimate skill which will be leveling up as the level of the hero grows. You will have to kill the enemies to get experience point for leveling up and money to gear up. Strength heroes are commonly known as Tankers because they usually have very high base Strength point and skills which improve their HP (health point) and armor a lot which make them very hard to be killed than the others two classes. Intelligence heroes are commonly used as Supporters because they have high Intelligence base stat which helps them to have a lot of MP (magic point) so they can cast a lot of skills. They also have skills that can heal others team member, damage their enemies or maybe make themselves to be invulnerable. The bad thing about this group is they’re very easy to get killed because they have very low HP and armor and that makes them always be the first to be targeted by the enemies. The last group is Agility heroes which are the most favorite heroes to be played in this game but they require some skills to control. They have high Agility base stat which makes them have lightning-fast attack and chance of avoiding an attack from the enemies. They also have skill to do a huge amount of damage to kill their enemies fast and sometimes only one agility hero can kill the whole enemy team and that’s why they are the most favorite heroes in the game. But they also have a weak spot (everyone has a weak spot!!) that is their HP. They will be very easy to kill at the beginning of the game so the enemies usually target them a lot so they can’t grow in level in addition of money to gear up, if that happens they will be very weak and probably useless in later stage of the match. The main ingredient for a good match in this game is team work. Team work is very important in order to gain victory. You will have to follow your teammates to hunt the enemies’ main hero down as you’re a tanker or supporter or if you’re an agility hero, you will have to kill a lot in order to be the strongest in the team and then dominate the enemies in later stage of the match. I always feel good when I hold an agility hero in my hand and kill the whole enemy team by myself!! In the other hand, you will find yourself pretty much useless in a match if you don’t listen to your teammates and just do whatever you want. You will get killed a lot and you can’t grow stronger. Your teammate will call you a “feeder” which means you let the enemies kill you a lot and they get to be really strong. At this time, your teammates probably just want to kick you out of the match if it’s not too late so they can have a better chance to win the match without you helping the enemies become stronger. Finally, DoTA is a fantastic game to play which not only entertain you but also helping you in teamwork development. DoTA is considerate as an e-sport nowadays and they hold a tournament called WCG (World Cyber Games) every year so that teams from over the world can compete with each other. My country- Vietnam was actually the champion of South East Asian last year. Playing DoTA is a great way to entertain in your free time but don’t be addicted so much, it will be wasting your time a lot.
