When interview a teacher about the classroom they teach she said that there are many difficulties of teaching. When ask why they stick to teaching if it is a difficult job she responded with if she wanted an easy job she would not be a teacher and that she wanted to be challenged and want to help children at the same time. When I asked her what are the five most difficult decision she make this week she thought it over and said there are many but just to name five she would say first one would be what will I do if it rains at recess time what will I have for students to do. This thought would be characterized with the events often are unpredictable. The next thing she said was chartered as a classroom is unpredictable in that she had a student who threw up in the middle of the library she had to get the student help while getting the other students way so they would not get sick too. The next thing she said was in the events is immediately as she had to decide whether to let a student out for recess of make him finish his work. Another thing she said which was the assembly schedule for that day was cancels so she had to come up with backup plan fast which is in simultaneous chart eristic because she had to teach the class while coming up with backup plan for the assembly time that was canceled. The final one was her assistant called off late for the day and had to come up with a plan to handle and remake the plans of the day for just her to teacher the entire class. They would be called unpredictable. I would say that I would have handled each of those situations in the same or similar way. Having each child learn something every day regardless of situation is the most important thing. Getting the child away from heath danger is important as well as getting help for the sick child.
When asked what impact these decisions made on the classroom environment she replied with the student in the library was help and sent home so the decision was effective in that the other student got away and did not get sick and the student was sent home to get better. When her aid did not show up the plan was effective in that the student still learned just not as much and not with as much one on one time. Overall all the decisions that week did not affect the classroom environment and there were effective plans in the time needed.
When I ask her the second question of what are some example of typical, quick decisions teachers make on daily basis she said she could name a thousand but settle with making sure prep work was done. Can I go to the restroom now and a have a classroom when I get back, and who do I choose to answer a question in class' The choices in this case would be the student who raised hand first or the student who needs the most help.
When asked if she ever had a time when she experience something that she did not know what to do she said yes there was a student who once stood up and said he was tired of school and was leaving now. The student was 7 years old so it shocked me at first but when I told him to sit down he walked to the door and opened it. She then held the child by the arm lightly and guided him to the principal’s office where his parents were called. The parents talked to him along with staff and he decided he want to go home and come back tomorrow. The school and parents agree and that problem was solved with the help of staff and parents. I do not know what I would done if this happened in my class I would try not to get mad but rather I would try to get the child to talk to me and gain his trust as his teacher to find out the root of the problem.
I then asked her if there was an emergency at school what was her plan of action if something like a child stops breathing and had no history of asthma or breathing disorder. She said that was a tough one but first she would start cpr and call for help then ask someone to escort the other children out and wait for help while trying to revive that child as he or she was my own. I would have to say that is a plan that I would try to do if I were in that situation.
