Morad May 21, 2010 Information Systems 2 Information Systems Information systems are necessary for supporting the business functions in the firm. How well a company chooses the proper information systems can make the difference between a successful business and a failure. This paper will discuss information systems and how they impact Sussman Shank LLP. Any modern business requires information systems to handle everything from customer information, communication, and tasks. Without information systems to handle the various tasks of an organization, the firm would not be able to handle its operations efficiently. Information systems, includes software, and hardware. Hardware can include Computers, Servers, Printers, and storage devices. I am familiar with Sussman Shank, LLP, an attorney law firm. The firm uses hardware and software that helps the attorneys and staff communicate with each other more easily. The attorney’s and staff are networked through a network server. Sussman Shank have a number of servers to include e-mail, Blackberry, File, Print and Backup. My employment at Sussman Shank as a IT Support for the past seven years and the Information Infrastructure has been exceptional. We haven’t much of a down time throughout the network. All the attorney’s and staff as Sussman Shank LLP rely heavily on email for a way of communication with clients and among each other. The IT department put much time and effort into this particular server, making sure that it running efficiently without any delays. There are items that make the Information System at Sussman Shank LLP stable. Our facility is well wired with network cables and Information Systems 3 all servers are well maintained and kept up to date with software and hardware. We concentrate on Microsoft Office Application, Blackberry, Data Backup, and File Print server. Those are pretty important to the firm and they all ducktail with one another to keep the organization up and running. The attorneys rely on their blackberry when they are traveling out of the office and keeping the communication with their clients. Two weaknesses that I have encounter here at Sussman Shank LLP with the Information Systems is that, we are constantly acquiring hardware to increase the data storage hardware to accommodate all the files being created and stored on the server. Sussman Shank LLP uses an ISP for our T1 internet connections, we seem to have a lot of problem with that company of downtime. We highly depend on their network being stable in order for ours to operate correctly. They are our frontline of communication and our network. The IT department is constantly working on improving the systems daily, making sure the data storage drive having enough disk space, keeping up to date with software application for the server and users. The most effort we are working on at this point to improve is looking for another ISP that can provide us with more stability on the T1 connection service for the firm. Sussman Shank LLP information system does not require any major improvement, only tweaks. The systems is and has been running efficiently because I have been part of the IT department team. That is our number one goal and dedication to the Sussman Shank LLP to keep everything up and running.
