Have a little read: ... This report reflects the process taken to design, make and evaluate an inclusive resource. 1.1 Background into Inclusion and Diversity The UN Rights of a Child linked to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights recognises education as a basic human right. As a guideline, it is a means to reflecting the processes in which children can be provided opportunities within education (Hornby (2004)). As confirmed by Barton (1997) P: 234; "inclusive education is part of a human rights approach to social relations and conditions. The intentions and values involved are an integral part of a vision of the whole society of which education is a part". Policies within the British political system have been influenced by reviews of the current system for supporting children beyond the classroom. Excellence for All Children: Meeting Special Educational Needs (DfEE (1997)), along with the Meeting Special Educational Needs: Programme of Action (DfEE (1998))both provided a commitment How To Promote Inclusion Equality And Diversity For Studentsjhbjhyhbj How Might Primary Schools And Teachers Contribute To The Promotion Of A Culture In Which Diversity Is Valued And Equality Of Opportunity Is A Reality' ...call ‘for the rights of black people to be recognised by a discriminatory white America' (Thomas and Vaughan 2005, p12). The resonance that this speech has offers powerful insights into issues surrounding segregation in education. As far back as 1931 Tawney argued that discrimination of any kind is intolerable due to its effects on social life More recently there has been increasing concern, in the United Kingdom as well as in other countries, that schools are not doing enough to enable all pupils to achieve high standards. It is possible that this concern is highlighted due to the realisation that an effectively educated population is needed in order to achieve economic prosperity. The concepts of equal opportunities and inclusion, particularly in relation to the rights of children, have received increasing attention. Endorsed by The United Nations (UN) convention on the Rights of the Child (1989); by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization's (UNESCO) Salamanca Statement (1994) and by the United Nation's call ‘Education for All' (World Conference on Education for All, 1990), ‘inclusion is now a world-wide movement' (Mittler, 2000, p12). The United Kingdom government, possibly in reply to the aforementioned UN documents has sought to increase the inclusion of pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) into mainstream schools (DfEE 1997, 1998; DfEE/QCA 1999; DfES 2001) and to improve the provision for these pupils, whether in mainstream or special educational contexts. The push for greater inclusion was given further impetus by the passing of the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Act (SENDA 2001) and the changes made (in the light of concerns made by OFSTED and the Audit Commission) to the SEN Code of Practice in 2002. By adapting to their needs and altering your teaching to suit, you are able to include a variety of learners, and not directly or indirectly exclude learners. Being aware of inequality will involve you understanding that learners have the right to attend and participate without feeling discriminated on the grounds of their ethnic origin, gender and race etc. Diversity is about valuing these differences. A number of strategies may need to be used in order to include all learners. To help remove barriers between learners, it may be useful for them to work together as a team. This co-operative learning it a good approach to including all learners and giving them the opportunity to see that all students in the class, irrespective of there background can contribute to the session. Throughout any lesson it is vital we assess the learners’ progress. Learning and feedback are vital to successful learning. In assessing learning it gives the opportunity to review if your teaching is effective in reaching all students regardless of background. It also gives you the opportunity to assess if the resources you have used are appropriate to any learners with physical difficulties i.e students who are visual impaired. When holding a learning session it is always useful to ask learners to draw on their own life experiences when backing up their points. This is something all learners can contribute with. Experiential learning encourages all the class to see what differing experiences have and why their point of view is valid.   This type of experience sharing will also help learners to build confidence and appreciate that no matter what your back ground, everyone has something to offer. Learners can be included in classroom activity by using e-learning and technology. All learners will need assess to equipment.
