In the quest to live the great American dream, millions of people from all across the globe immigrate to the United States every year. Illegal migrants are people who intrude the international borders and enter the US to earn a better living and in search of a better future. Why would people leave their country and illegally enter another country thus risking their lives' Well, though this is a good question, it does not demand some great understanding ability to recognize that people leave their countries mostly due to economic reasons and unemployment. Illegal migration, in strictest logic, is millions of people, entering and working in another country without the permission of the state/country authorities. Entering the country legally but violating the terms and conditions of the visas and passports and staying there for more than the legally allowed time frame, also accounts to illegal immigration. There are different disciplines of thought when it comes to debate on this topic. Opponents of illegal immigration describe the existence of this number of illegal immigrants as an “invasion” that endangers the economic and social future of the United States. “The sovereignty of our nation is at risk from a flood of illegal immigrants who are usurping the benefits of being American citizens,” ( Hamblin). Hamblin and others argue that the United States has limited resources and abilities to assimilate new immigrants, and those greater efforts should be made to prevent people from entering illegally, deport illegal immigrants who are found here, and punish employers of illegal immigrants. Cruel as it may seem, Hamblin argues, “we cannot afford compassion” because that would only promote more illegal immigration. Immigrants have played an important role in the economic development of the United States that continues into the present day. It requires ambition to leave your home nation in pursuit of a better future, and immigrants tend to be entrepreneurial. Furthermore, immigrants are more willing to take on low-paying and often dangerous jobs that most natural-born Americans refuse to do. They provide cheap labor and create savings in production costs. The savings result in lower costs of goods and services for consumers, benefiting the nation as a whole. Poor immigrants often lack the economic means to contribute their fair share in taxes. They tend to consume more government resources than they've paid for and thus have a negative effect on the national treasury, affecting, education, welfare and health care resources the most directly. Additionally, low-skilled natural-born citizens are in direct rivalry with immigrant laborers for jobs. The rivalry drives down wages and limits job possibilities for people who may have earned middle-class wages before. There should be a way to become a citizen, but that it should not be easy. These are, for the most part, hard-working people who do not want to break the law of the country they're in. In fact, most people who come here love the country and the people in it and would like to be legal, tax-paying citizens. Only various legislative reasons prevent such an ideal. I talk to many people in other countries and the general consensus is that a visa to come to the US on a permanent working basis is next to impossible to obtain. However, if someone is living in a poverty-stricken part of a country and has a way to go to another country and have a fighting chance at improving their family's lives, they're going to take it, even if it means breaking a few laws to do it.
