Appeal As a first time freshman at Nicholls State University, this experience was both difficult and very challenging for me. I suffered both physical and emotional stress, which included severe back problems and intense emotional problems. I was treated for each for a long period of time, which caused me to fall behind in my courses. For my back problems I was constantly commuting back and forward from Thibodaux to Marrero, Louisiana which made it very hard to put all of my focus on course work. I debated on resigning from college, but I felt as if completing a few courses was the best thing to do. I was under the care of Ochsner Clinic in Marrero, Louisiana from 10/14-10/20/02. For my personal emotional problems I was admitted to Thibodaux Regional for three days, which were 10/21-10/23/02. After I was hospitalized for three days I was required to withdrawal from Math 002 due to circumstances out of my control. I was told by the Financial Aid Office that a first semester freshman was allowed to drop down to nine hours. I then felt as if I could handle three classes, which were ACSU 115, ENG 101, and World Reg. GEOG 104. I passed both ACSU 115 and ENG 101, but I failed GEOG 104, which I expected, because I missed a couple of tests due to my illness. Next semester will give me the opportunity to improve. My conditions are much better and I have improved emotionally. I feel as if I am an asset to Nicholls State University, but acute medical conditions -Y
