Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech can be considered one of the greatest speeches in American history. Over 200,000 white and black Americans gathered in Washington D.C. on August 28, 1963 to hear Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. deliver this groundbreaking speech.
On of the most important parts in public speaking is to get audience attention .He tells how he will be leading the greatest demonstration for freedom in history to grab audience attention.
King uses many large and descriptive words in his speech, rather than short and direct words. Through out the speech, King uses numerous metaphors such as "America has given the Negro a bad check, which has come back marked 'insufficient funds.'" Another technique used in the speech is repetition. King repeats the lines "I have a dream", "With this faith" and "Let freedom ring" throughout his speech
Martin Luther King's Vocal delivery was very impressive epitomized the perfect delivery, his voice was deep and spoke with leadership, and a certain firmness that only a true leader can speak with. His volume was perfect he directed his voice outwards very well and everyone in the audience could hear what he was saying. Everything he said was perfectly spaced and with the topic he was speaking of he directed his variety, his rate, and his clarity perfectly, and this is why to this day this speech is remembered.
With Martin Luther King's Physical delivery was also very impressive he looked around and gave eye contact to everybody in the audience though there are thousands of people attended his speech. He looked very politically professional and looked like a leader. His gestures were strong and made his speech that much better. There really are no imperfections in this speech, people may be able to point few out but the speech was what it was and affective to all and touched everyone.
For the conclusion Mr. King really just did his own thing he gave his speech the way he wanted to give it, he didn't follow really any of the outline of how we give speeches in class but he greatly succeeded in having his voice heard and speech.
