Write a 200- to 300-word summary that answers the following questions:
o What do the terms race and ethnicity mean to you'
* Why are these concepts important to United States society'
The term ‘race’ often generates the concept of physical characteristics associated with an individual’s particular geographical denomination. For example the particular characteristics genetically inherited due to the specific origin of ancestry.
The term ‘ethnicity’ triggers an idea of residual characteristics of traditional origins. For example persons of a specific race that particularly embrace, practice and follow traditional characteristics of their genetic origin or ancestry.
In some considerations religious origin may also contribute to the concept of ‘race’ or ‘ethnicity’. For example Judaism and Islam, both of these faiths have followers of various denominations that relate culturally based upon this religious or cultural influence.
These concepts are important to the society of the United States because this country embraces the variations of citizens. The diversity associated with this nation is extremely significant to the ideals and principles of its citizens. Also it would be demographically improbable to cluster the variations of citizens into groups based on various characteristics, ideally this is a simpler process to conceptualize and identify the variations of persons inhabiting this country. I believe these terms are also commonly used by the census bureau in order to efficiently produce consistent data regarding the variations of cultures associated with the population, for example persons descendant from one of the many Central or South American countries are often referred to as ‘Latino’ or ‘Hispanic’ or are directly referred to by the specific country of origin, for example ‘Peruvian’ or ‘Argentinian’.
