Guidelines for Petitioning and Campaigning General Elections 2009-2010 1. The petitions MUST be completed and turned in no later than the Campaign Regulation Session on Tuesday, April 6 at 7:00 P.M. in Buckman 108. 2. A biography of no more than 250 words may be sent in electronic form to the Elections Commissioner. We encourage you to send us a biography, as these documents help voters to better know candidates, and will be used in publicizing the elections in the Sou’wester. These biographies must be e-mailed to the Elections Commissioner no later than Wednesday, April 7 at 7:30 P.M. 3. In the case of a person running in multiple races, a separate petition MUST be filled out for each petition. 4. No candidate may change the information regarding the desired position after collecting the first signature. 5. Candidates may not begin campaigning before the time listed below nor may they announce their candidacy by any means of mass communication. This includes, but is not limited to, emails, Facebook, text messages, or anything else that may be considered mass communication. Failure to comply with this regulation may result in the withdrawal of said candidate from the race. Removing or tampering with another candidate’s publicity may also result in the removal of the offending candidate. 6. Campaign materials may NOT include butcher paper, chalk, or paint on campus property. No materials are allowed INSIDE academic buildings. Standard sized poster board is acceptable. 7. All materials must be removed entirely no later than six days after the election. 8. The Elections Commissioner holds the power to rule on the appropriate usage of petitions and campaign materials and to determine if the failure of a candidate’s compliance with the guidelines constitutes grounds for revoking any candidate’s candidacy. Calendar of Election Events: 4/6/10: Campaign Regulation Session— 7:00 P.M. in Buckman 108 • Petitions are due at the CRS, or you may drop them outside the RSG office on 3rd floor Borrow when they’re completed. • Biographies are due via email to storm@rhodes.edu by 7:30 P.M. Wednesday, April 7th • Campaign regulations will be outlined. • Campaigning may begin at midnight on the day of this meeting. 4/13/10: General Election Day — ballots open from midnight until 7 P.M.
