My Favorite Sport My favorite sport is volleyball. Volleyball is a team sport played by two teams on a playing court divided by a net. The net is about 2, 43 cm high. The object of the game is for each team (6 players on each team) to send the ball regularly over the net to ground it on the opponent’s court, and to prevent the ball from being grounded on its own court. The ball is put into play by the right back - row player who serves the ball by hitting it over the net to the opponent’s court. A team is allowed to hit the ball three times to return it to the opponent’s court. A player is not allowed to hit the ball twice consecutively, except when attempting a block. The rally continues until the ball touches the floor, goes "out" or a team fails to return it to the opponent’s court or commits a fault. The team winning a rally scores a point. When the receiving team wins a rally, it gains a point and the right to serve, and its players rotate one position clockwise. The team that first scores 25 points with a minimum two - point advantage, will win each non- deciding game. If there is a deciding game, it will be won by the team that first scores 15 points with a minimum two - point advantage. Today there are more than 24 million Americans who play volleyball. And there are 800 million players worldwide who play volleyball at least once a week. The history of volleyball starts in 1895. William G. Morgan, an instructor at the Young Men’s Christian Association also called TMCA in Holyoke, decided to blend elements of basketball, baseball, tennis and handball to create a game for his classes of businessmen which would demand less physical contact than basketball. He created the game of volleyball (at that time called mignonette). Morgan borrowed the net from tennis, and raised it 6 feet 6 inches above the floor, just above the average man’s head. During a demonstration game, someone remarked to Morgan that the players seemed to be volleying the ball back and forth over the net, and perhaps volleyball would be a more descriptive name for the sport. On July 7, 1896 at Springfield College the first game of volleyball was played. From that day volleyball became very popular.First of all because volleyball is a very social sport. You have to work with each other and you have to get a good communication with each other to get success. Volleyball equipment is nothing special. You can wear FLEECE PANTS. To the FLEECE PANTS you can wear a black T - shirt with an imprinted volleyball. Instead of the FLEECE PANTS you can also wear a MINI MESH NYLON SHORT. These fun and fancy dazzle shorts have a white nylon lining for color contrast. You can get them in colors like black, royal, purple and light blue. A volleyball player will suggest that if you play volleyball on a regular basis that you spend the money to buy good quality leather volleyball. Playing the game with a good quality leather ball can make the game much more enjoyable, and lees painful on your arms. You can use the volleyball in games, and to do drills to improve your game. You can do drills on your own or with a partner or group of players. First Olympics with indoor volleyball was in 1964 in Japan. Who won TheOlympic Games in Sydney, I don’t now unfortunately. But I now some of the volleyball stars, and I will tell a bit about them. First there is Yoko Zetterland. She is born Marts 24, 1969 in San Francisco. She is 180 cm tall and weighs 65 kilos. Her father is Swedish, and her mother was on of Japan’s national team volleyball players. Her Japanese name is Yoko Horie. She graduated from Waseda University in Tokyo. In 1991, she took on American nationality. She won the bronze medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games as a setter of the US national volleyball team. Motoko Ohbayashi is also one of the volleyball stars. She is 182 cm tall and weights 67 kilos. She became a national team player as a high school student in 1985. She has been Japan’s ace attacker since 1988 Soeul Olympic Games. She has joined Hitachi in 1986, but was fired from the team in 1994. Hitachi was attacked by many, for taking such action. Motoko went to play in the Italian league, then she joined Toyobo in 1995. The most popular volleyball players generally come from Japan and U.S.A. And volleyball also has the biggest popularity in these two countries. 2. Tennis is a sport played between two players and it is developed by Major Harry Tom and his friends. Each player use a string racket to strike a hollow rubber ball to covered with felt over a net into the opponent court. The modern game of Tennis originated in the United Kingdom in the late 19th Century as "Lawn Tennis" and has heavy connections in the ancient games of real tennis. After its creation spreading through the upper class and English speaking population spreading through out the world .Tennis is an Olympic sport in all society at all ages. Along with its millions of players and millions of people world wide has fever brand .especially the four grand slam tournaments. Except the adoption of the, tie breaker in 1973 and the rules of tennis have changed very little since in the 1980 and a recent addition to the profession has the adoption of the external tennis. In December 1873 major Walter Clapton wing field designed similar game, which is called spars tike as soon as know simply sticky and for his guests had garden party and similar game that all the elders and younger play so I like Tennis. MY FAVORITE PERSONALITY (IMRAN KHAN) In this world there is always a person who inspires us and becomes our role model. We admire that personality very much. Undoubtedly we admire our Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U.H) a lot as we can lead our lives perfectly if we follow his teachings and sayings. The second influential personalities after our Prophet (P.B.U.H) in our lives are our parents who guide us completely throughout our lives. I have a huge interest in politics and want to change my country so the personality who inspired me is Mr Imran Khan. He was born on November 25th, 1952 in Lahore. He is a retired Pakistani cricketer turned politician. Currently besides his political activities he is also a charity worker. Mr Imran Khan played for Pakistan cricket from 1971 to 1992 and later in April 1996 he founded a political party known as Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf (Movement for Justice) and he became Chairman of his party. According to him you can change your country and to solve the problems of people of Pakistan only if we join politics. He says we cannot solve problems of people only by charity. Politics is the best platform to bring revolution in a country. And that is a different debate we didn’t find any good leader or a politician in power that worked for the people. Mr Imran Khan became the member of National Assembly from 2002 to 2007 from Mianwali. He through worldwide fund raising helped establish the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital that treats the ailments of the people free of cost. He also established Namal College in Mianwali in 2008 in collaboration with the university of Bradford, England. Mr Imran Khan was born to Shaukat Khanum and Ikram ullah Niazi. Avery quiet and shy boy in his youth, Khan grew up in a middle class Niazi Pathan family with four sisters. He was educated at Aitchisan College and Royal Grammar School in England where he excelled at cricket. He married a British socialite Jemima Goldsmith and have two sons but this marriage ended up after nine years as said by Mr Imran Khan it was difficult for Jemima to adapt to life in Pakistan. The reason I admire Mr Imran is his personality, intelligence and his role in charity and his vision in politics. He has a direct positive effect on me. Whatever he says on political talk shows it is they are enough to seduce me to follow his views. He is a valiant man who never fears criticizing political parties and government of the past and recent times. He has fidelity with Pakistan. His personality makes him an ideal and fit to lead this country. He doesn’t have any kind of patronage from the time he entered politics. Imran Khan is not a natural politician and this means that he is not corrupt like our other politicians whose incentives are to give pangs to the people in the forms of high inflation. Imran Khan is one of the great scholar and political maestro of this country. He gave his continuous support to lawyer’s movement and true democracy in this country gave him exalted position among others and made him an ideal leader to lead this nation it set it on the right path and our generation too. He inspired me because of his excellent communication skills after meeting him. In the coming age one can hope that coming time will be of progress and Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf. MY FAVOURITE GAME IS TENNIS My Favourite Cricketer Cricket, my favourite game, is one of the most popular games all over the world. Though many people of the world have been playing cricket, very few players have made their mark in cricket. Many of   them are admired, but my special admiration goes to all-time-great Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar,   the name itself strikes terror in the hearts of bowlers and captains all around the world. The Star of Indian Cricket, more like a GOD in India,   is the best player ever gifted to the game of Cricket and should be chosen as the sport personality of the year. He possesses all the strokes in the book and is probably the best cutter and straight driver of the ball today. His technique is impeccable (perfect), and he is professional at his approach. And he made the highest runs in a single calendar year. Tendulkar is a batsman who does not like to be kept quiet, in tests or in one day Cricket. He always wants to dominate the bowlers, and he does an excellent job of it. He can tackle any kind of bowler. He is very deft on his feet, even to the best of pace bowlers and to the deceptive (unreliable) flight of world-class spinners. His strike rate in One day Cricket is over 85 runs per 100 balls, which is superb to say at least. He is excellent hitter of the ball and uses one of the heaviest bats in the game. His technique is impeccable; he packs tremendous power and strength into his short, stocky frame, and his ability to time the ball is exemplary (excellent), making him the most dreaded batsman in One Day Cricket. He has had very few dry runs, because of his technique that is close to perfection- lovely body balance, sure feet movement, a solid defense, a wide array of strokes off both foot against both spin and pace, and an in-born ability to cope with the challenges of different wickets and conditions. He has developed the ability to treat bowlers all over the world with contempt (hatred) and can destroy any attack with utmost ease. A visit to historical Place/Shalimar Gardens | | 1. The city of Lahore is often referred to as the City of Gardens for the reason that many a beautiful garden of ancient and modern times and architecture are found all over the city. Successive Mogul emperors constructed a number of gardens to add to the beauty of Lahore - a city they loved the most. But the most unique and beautifully laid out garden remains to be the Shalamar gardens built by none other than Emperor Shah Jehan in 1642 AD, who also built the immortal Taj Mahal in Agra, India. The Shalimar Gardens are located along the Grand Trunk Road some 5 kilometres northeast of the Lahore city centre. The site of Shalimar Gardens originally belonged to one of the noble family of Lahore, who were given the title of "Mian" by the Mughal Emperor, for their services to the Empire. The land for the gardens was donated by Mian Muhammad Yusuf, the head of Mian family, to Emperor Shah Jahan, who in return, granted the Mian family governance of the Shalimar Gardens. The Shalimar Gardens remained under the custodianship of this family for more than 350 years. The project was assigned to Khalilullah Khan, a noble of Shah Jahan's court. The Gardens are surrounded by high walls with watch-towers at its four corners. Originally, the gardens were spread over seven ascending terraces, but only three  now remain. spread over an area of about 42 acres. These terraces are elevated by 4-5 metres above one another. The upper terrace is known as "Farah Baksh", meaning Bestower of Pleasure, the middle terrace is named "Faiz Baksh" meaning Bestower of Goodness and the lower terrace is called "Hayat Baksh" meaning Bestower of life. The most novel thing about the gardens is its irrigation system, which remained a mystery for a long time. The designers and planners dug a 161 kilometres long canal, named "Shah Nahar" meaning Royal (Shah) canal (Naher), brought from Rajpot (present day Madhpur in India). The canal intersected the Gardens and discharged into a large marble basin in the middle terrace. A number of small structures and buildings have been built in various shapes for rest and recreation of the royalties. These buildings include the sleeping chambers, the resting halls,  a royal bedroom or "Khawabgah" for the wife of the emperor, "Baradaries" or summer pavilions to enjoy the coolness created by the Gardens' fountains and two halls for the audience of the emperor by the ordinary and royalties. There are hundreds of fountains installed on these three terraces which render the surrounding area cooler to give relief during the scorching summers of Lahore. It is a credit to the ingenuity of the Mughal engineers that even today scientists are unable to fathom how the fountains were operated originally. On the first terrace, there is a marble pavilion underneath with water flows and cascades down over a carved, marble slab creating a waterfall effect. Across the waterfall is a marble throne. At the end of the second terrace is a beautiful structure called "Sawan Bhadon", a sunken tank niches on its three sides. Water cascades down from it in sheets in front of the niches, producing the sound of falling rain. These days the gardens have turned into the a picnic spot for the Lahorites,  and is always busy. The garden is majestic in it's size, and pretty impressive when you see the fountains and consider that they were built without modern technology. However, its excessive use and misuse by the crowd has robbed the gardens of its original beauty and landscape. The buildings deteriorated and greenery vanished. Therefore, in 1981, the Shalimar Gardens were included in the World Heritage list, under the UNESCO Convention concerning the protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage 1972. 2. The Shalimar Gardens are located 8 kilometers (5 miles) east of Lahore. They were commissioned by Shah Jahan in 1637. The form of the garden is inspired by the gardens of the same name, in Kashmir, and would later be copied in the Shalimar Gardens of Delhi. The enclosure is over 457 meters (500 yards) long, and contains 2 gardens, with a narrow rectangular terrace in between them. Each garden is divided by canals and flowerbeds, following the Persian tradition of the charbagh, or fourfold garden. Each of the 3 parts is on a different level, so that the upper parts are concealed from the view of people entering from below. The highest, and therefore the most private, section is thought to have been used by the imperial women. The channels of water that weave through the whole garden are fed by canals designed and administered by a defector from the Persian court, Ali Mardan Khan, or Inayat Khan, known for his architectural and building expertise. The gardens contain white marble buildings in typical Shah Jahani style. They are enclosed by a red sandstone wall interrupted by small decorative kiosks. The Shalimar Gardens are among the best preserved Mughal gardens. Festivals National Horse & Cattle Show Lahore:  (3rd week of November for 05 days )  Held at Fortress Stadium, Lahore. Cattle races, cattle dances, tent-pegging, tattoo show, folk music, dances, bands, cultural floats and folk games.  The show has been described as an eloquent expression of Pakistan's heritage and an authentic account of its agricultural and industrial achievement's. It is held in Lahore Fortress stadium at the end of February or at First week of March. The fortress stadium, the venue of the show is thronged by active participants, foreign visitors and peoples who watch the festival with great enthusiasm, verve and aplomb. A large number of them are interested in watching and appreciating the best breeds of livestock. Many derive pleasure by watching other activities such as display parade of animals, dances by horses and camels, polo matches, tent pegging, dog shows and their races, vaudeville acts of stuntmen, mass display of military band, rhythmically physical exercise by the children. Tastefully decorated industrial floats and torch light tattoo shows. Additional attractions include a subtle interplay of lights to weave enticing patterns at night and breath taking acts by foreign groups. The show began as a modest exhibition organized by the army to project the cattle wealth of the country in the early fifties. Today it is an international event to which come dignitaries from abroad and visitors and foreign tourists. The organizing committee comprises representatives of a number of agencies including army, rangers, LMC schools, the police, industrialists and the art councils. 2. Bassant With the advent of spring Basant Festival is celebrated with pomp and show in mid February every year in Lahore. In other words this is the spring festival. Alleging that kite flying is a Hindu event is also sheer ignorance. The sport originated in China about 5000 years ago, when Hinduism was in non existent. Why single out kite-flying then, especially when it is a source of joy for the old and the young men and women' The simple reason is that Hindu at Basant Festival fly kites for enjoying Basant. With times Muslims who were living together with Hindus in the sub-continent also join them in kite-flying. Since then Muslims are taking participation in just kite-flying at the time of Basant connotating it as Pala Urant. Now a days people of Lahore enjoy it by kite flying competition and by visiting the shrine of saint Madho Lal Hussein, where they assemble to pay their benediction. Lahore is becoming the main focal point for the celebration of this festival in Pakistan. People traditionally fly kites on the roofs of their buildings. It is commonly observed that rest houses, hotels and house of relatives of the participants are fully packed with guests from all over the country. Moreover some five star hotels also arrange this function on their roof top for foreigners and other high class gentry. They also arrange variety of dishes with musical concert. Sometimes Lahorities on this occasion become emotional and in this state create law and order problems for the administration. Some of them use metal thread for kite-flying. Their such a deed oftenly imposes, besides life threat, a serious problem for WAPDA when the thread touches the live wires. Inspite of the fact Basant Festival which has no links with the Muslim culture is becoming very popular and being celebrated in Lahore regularly every year with zeal and fervent. My Faourite book Even since my childhood I have read a large number of books. Short stories novels works of poets and biographies have been of great interest to me. But one book has interested me most. It was the life of the Prophet of Islam by Allama Shibli. I was amazed to read the life of the Holy Prophet He was born an orphan. At the age of six he lost his mother as well. Among the idol worshippers of Arabia he stood alone and worshipped one God. Arabs quarreled among themselves for years on end over petty affairs. They drank wine buries their daughters alive. They gambled, fought, cursed and had all the vices that one could think of. Muhammad (Peace be upon him) kept aloof from them. He disliked their ways but could not make them give up their evil ways . At the age of forty God entrusted Muhammad with the work of reforming the people who had gone astray. When Muhammad (Peace be upon him) took upon himself this work all turned against him. Only a few listened to him and became true muslims. He had to leave his home and hearth yet he struggled hard in obedience to the world of God. After a hard struggle of a few years he returned victorious to Mecca the very land from where he had fled for his life to the cruel treatment of his countrymen. The unbelievers trembled with fear. They thought it was the day of revenge. The prophet declared it was the day for general pardon. This generous treatment made the unbelievers listen to what the Prophet said. They embraced Islam in large numbers. Those who fought among themselves for years on end began to believe in universal brotherhood. They gave up their evil customs. They no longer buried their daughters alive but showed greatest respect for fair sex. A complete change was wrought. Humanity was reclaimed. This book has interested me most. I have read it again and again. It is a very instructive book. After reading this book truth came home to me that truth is stranger than fiction. My best friend A good friend is a sincere person on whom we can depend in the time of need. A good friend is also a source of happiness. But now-a-days the word friendship is used very loosely. Generally all the person whom we call our friends are not in reality our friends. They are simply our acquaintances. A true friend on the other hand shares both our joys and sorrows. He is our true adviser and well wisher. I am very fortunate that I have such a friend. His name is Ahmad Ali. He is my best friend. He is my friend since we were studying in the primary school. We have studied together all these years. He lives just near my hours. Most of our time we spend together in our studies and games. My best friend belongs to a very noble and rich family. But he is not proud of his father's wealth or property. His father is a big government contractor. His mother is also an educated lady with a very sweet nature. His parents love me much whenever I go to their house. They consider me just like their son. Similarly my parents also love hi much. We always study together and exchange our books with each other. My friend Ahmad Ali is a brilliant student. He always stands first in the class and I stand second. We study with a sense of competition without any tinge of jealousy. We also play together. We are both considered to be the best hockey players in our school. Although my friend belongs to a very rich family. Yet he has very simple habits. He believes in simple living and high thinking. He does not wear very gaudy dresses. He is always dressed in simple but neat clothes. He is very handsome and possesses an athletic physique. He is also a monitor of our class. All the teachers like him. He is quite popular among the students also. He never quarrels with the class fellows. He always tries to help the poor students. He teaches them in his spare time and also lends him books to them. If a poor student is unable to pay his school fee he also pays it gladly. My friend has won several prizes in games as well as studies. Once he won several prizes of Rs.1000/- in an essay competition but he donated it to the poor student's fund of our school. He always tries to keep away from bad company. But he never hates any one. He rather tries to reform the bad boys also. Whenever there is any quarrel in the class he tries to settle it amicably. We both are proud of our ideal friendship. We want to make it an ideal and a long lasting friendship. We never quarrel with each other. Although many students try to create misunderstanding between us but we always understand their jealousy. Our aim in life is to pursue higher study and become good citizens of our country. Memorable period of life Childhood is a golden period of man's life. It is the time when man is dependent but he enjoys all the comforts of the life. He has nothing to worry about. He has to do nothing to get his demand fulfill except weeping. It is a carefree time. In my childhood I was free from worries and sorrows. When every day and night brought joys for me. Parents tried to amuse me. They loved me so much that I began to think they were living only for me and it was not wrong as well. Near our house there was a pond. Father took me daily to the pond to enjoy the beautiful sight of the setting sun. Once my father fell ill and could not go to the pond. I was very fond of taking bath in the bright water of the pond but father did not allow me to fulfill my desire. Now it was a golden chance. I went alone to the pond and jumped into the water. Deep water took me into its lap. After this what happened I do no know. When I opened my eyes a doctor was bending over me. Mother and sisters were weeping. I had to remain for one month in the hospital. Now when I recall that horrible accident my heart begins to sink with fear. Then I decided not to do anything without the permission of parents. There is one more thing which I cannot help mentioning More over I can never forget the day when I was beaten by the gardener for stealing mangoes. My friend Maria and I went to the garden to eat mangoes. Maria was very active and clever. She remained out of the garden and asked me to climb up the mango tree. Consequently I was caught by the gardener and he bead me with his sharp stick. Maria ran away The gardener took me before my father and told the whole story. Father prohibited me from going to the garden. I was much ashamed but soon all it was over. If you have female companion you are fond of dolls as well. The same case was with me. I was very fond of dolls in my childhood. Maria and I played with the dolls for hours, marrying and decorating them. Mother did not like her daughter wasting time in playing. As a result she took me to the school. I was much frightened and puzzled among the strange girls. I began to weep bitterly. While I was weeping I felt a soft hand on my back it was my teacher. She consoled me and gave me a beautiful book of colourful pictures. I was taught by her to smile in the storm of tears and sufferings. Now she is far away from me but her memory is fresh in my mind and I will never forget her as well. Children usually keep on gamboling and playing . Sometimes they keep on running in childhood I was like a playful deer wandering through the meadows. Maria and wandered the whole day long in the green fields of our villages picking wild flowers and making garlands. How beautiful moonlit nights were in childhood! When the shining moon appeared we all played in the open fields catching one another. Now childhood is no more but it appears a beautiful dream. Childhood is a golden period of man's life. My Hobby A hobby is a change of work which is done for the main purpose of refreshing oneself. It is an interesting pursuit for the sake of getting pleasure in one's leisure time. Hobby is the pleasant use of the spare time at our disposal. We can use it as we like it. The pursuit of hobbies also the best method of spending one's free time. Different people like different hobbies. Some like to spend their spare time in reading their favorite books. Some person has the hobby of collecting stamps or coins. Bird watching is also a hobby for some people. Still others like to spend their free time in gardening. Photography is also a popular hobby for the certain person. But it is quite expensive hobby and every one may not be able to afford it. Fishing and swimming are also good hobbies. Certain persons also make it their hobby to collect the autographs of eminent persons. My favorite hobby is gardening. We have a spacious ground attached to our house. I have developed this open space into a beautiful garden. I am always devoting my free time for the up keeping of my beautiful garden which is very dear to me. I get a sense of joy and pride when I visit my garden in my free time. In my garden I have planted some fruit trees. I have also planted some plants of beautiful flowers. Now I have also started growing vegetables. Our needs for fruits and vegetables are wholly met from my small garden which gives me a great sense of achievement. I am really proud of my garden which is admired by all who visit our house. I purchase the best seeds from the super market for sowing in my garden. I have also collected all the required tools for gardening. In my library I possess certain books on the subject of gardening. These books have greatly helped me in the maintenance of my garden and pursuing my hobby. I have made many new experiments in my garden regarding growing of vegetables and flowers. My garden is also full of sweet smelling and beautiful flowers. The blooming flowers of different colors greatly enhance the beauty of my garden. Thus my hobby is giving my immense pleasure. Whenever I am such tired of my routine work I just go to my garden and lie there on green grass in the midst of blooming flowers. The sweet fragrance of the flowers fills my nostrils and I feel very active and smart again. My hobby provides me not only pleasure but also a good amount of physical exercise. The Happiest Day of My Life Life is always full of accidents and incidents. Some incidents are pleasant and some of them are horrible. But a good deed always gives us true pleasure. Man is happy whenever he thinks of it. He never forgets it because these things do not take place every day. About a year ago I was walking quietly to college in the morning along with two friends. Near college there is a railway crossing and when a train is due to cross the road the gates are closed and we have to wait till it has gone past. As we approached on that morning we saw the gates were closed and heard a train approaching the morning Khyber Mail So we walked slowly knowing that we would have to wait. Just beside the crossing there are one or two poor houses. In one we had often seen two small boys about two years old. I should say and so alike that I think they must have been twins. That morning as we reached the gate. I heard a woman give a loud scream and there to our horror we saw that the two little fellows sitting together between the rails right in the path of the approaching train. There was the mother holding on the bars of the gate and screaming. Now I do not think I am a very brave of heroic sort of fellow and actually I did not think anything at all. My brain refused to help me. But curiously enough I found that my legs and arms were working by themselves. Like a machine I vaulted over the barred gate with two quick movement and down on to the side of the rails. The train by this time was no more than twenty five yards away and whistling very loudly. I sprang between the rails gripped one lad by the arm and the other by the leg and with a great effort so rang across to the other side. As we all fell in a heap on the other side a strong wing hit me as the train dashed past with roar. An old biscuit box with which they had been playing was thrown high in the air I stood up then my knees trembling and a sick feeling in my stomach. The whole thing took less time than I have taken to tell it. For quite some time I stood motionless wondering at the thing which I had done. I thought that it was from God Side. He gave me strength and courage to save the life of those poor babies. Had I delayed for a minute they would have been crushed under the wheel of the train. There was a great slapping me on the back and the Headmaster mention of it before all the college. I was given a special prize at the end of the year. But I do not think my great happiness came from the fuss that people or from the prize. It was rather that I had by good fortune been able to same lives and found a new confidence in myself. The Day I Should Like to Forget Life if full of eventful history. There are always ups and downs. There is old saying All happy men resemble one another every unhappy man is unhappy in his own way. So was I. Pain and pleasure go side by side in life Pain and unhappiness has its own value. But for those who are not conquered by it. I am an ordinary man and my life has never been a bed of roses. I had to struggle y way through life. But there are degrees of unhappiness. The day when I failed in the BA Examination was the unhappiest day of my life. That is the day I should like to forget. Two years ago I appeared in the BA Examination. I was not a very intelligent student. I passed my matric examination in second division without much work. Later I did FA But this time I worked day and night. I memorized all the important questions. I practiced writing. I gave up games morning walks and all other pleasures of life. The reason was that my future depended on my passing the BA Examination. I could make or mar it. I had decided to make it. A relative of mine had promised to get me employed at a good post. I was expected to earn Rs. 5000/- a month. My old mother had promised to marry me to a girl I liked so after passing the examination I could hope to win a good job and a beautiful wife. The BA Examination was a question of life and death for me. As far as my papers were concerned I did them well because all the expected questions were set in them I felt relieved of the burden of examination. I was sure to get a good second division. After this the days of dreaming followed. I used to dream of a prosperous good home life. At last the result day came. Great was my grief when I did not find my roll number among the successful candidates. I could not believe it. I searched my name among those who had been placed in the compartment but to no avail. I combed the result later on category for my roll number no use. I consulted all the newspapers but who can avert the decree of fate' Perhaps the examiner had marked my paper carelessly and I had failed. I was out of mind for a minute. I could not control my tears. The things seemed floating before my eyes. Dark thoughts thronged my mind. I had lost everything. Speech left me. I thought it better to end my life rather than to face the world. I fell senseless on the ground. Friends brought me home. When I came to my senses. They consoled me. My face was pale like a ghost. My poor old mother was worried about me. In the evening I received the result card andit put a seal on my bright future. I could not dare appear in the examination again. My heart had broken. I could not marry after my own choice. Later my mother also died. That is why I should like to forget that day. A Happy Life A happy life is a desire of everyone in this world. Happiness is just a state of mind. It is very difficult to define happiness. Sometimes happiness is related to material glory and splendour. Sometimes it is associated with the health of aa man while to others it lies in a sort of contentment with whatever one possesses. So different people have different source of happiness. Happiness is the wish of all people. Happiness to them is just a good and comfortable dream. The manner of living has various gradations and standards. Everyone thus has his own concept of happiness . But one thing is very clear that every man is dissatisfied with his present lot and condition. One always wants more and more. A squatter lying on the roadside may be aspiring for a hut a hut dweller may be aspiring for a house. A house owner may be aspiring for a beautiful bungalow. While a bungalow owner may by aspiring for a posh residence. Now the question arises as to where in lies human happiness. Generally speaking material splendour and prosperity are considered to be the main factors leading to happiness. A wealthy man enjoys all the comforts luxuries amenities and facilities of life but do we consider ourselves to be really happy' A rich man may be the roaster of million but even then he may be unhappy because he is a sick man. Being sick he cannot enjoy all the pleasures of life. He considers himself to be a condemned and cursed man in this world. Consider the life of a poor man. It is an admitted fact that poverty and happiness are diametrically opposed to each other. But there have been some instances when we find poor people quite happy and gay. Their minds are not corrupted by the sweeping changes of the times. Their life is balanced and happy. They feel contented with their meager resources. "Be content with that you have little be it or much……….." These people are really happy. Their mental state is always within limit. Otherwise there is no end to the desires of human beings. Human desires are infinite. They multiply with the fortune. A millionaire desires to become a multi millionair and his vicious circle does not end any where. He keeps on hankering after the money with no ends. Shelley in the following words describes the affair of the world. " We look before and after An pine for what is not" A happy life results from a state of mind. Health is also one of the most important factors. Which promotes happiness. A healthy man can take strolls in the morning and can enjoy the fresh air of the fields and fragrance of the flowers by visiting a garden. A poor but healthy man can spend his time in sports and games and can resort to there entertainments and recreations which are cheap and which are in his reach. In the end let it be said that the every secret of happiness lies somewhere else than in the mere possession of huge wealth. A wealthy man always remains in a state of tension because he thinks that a thief or a decoit may not rob him but the ideal happiness lies in one who always does a right thing never injures the hearts and minds of the others and is a God fearing fellow. One's actions must be good. Good actions also lead to happiness. My Family I come of a middle class family in which both the parents are working. My grand parents also stay with us. My grand father retired from the army and draws pension. He is a strict disciplinarian and will not allow anyone to sleep after 6:00 A.M. All the children to get ready for morning jerks by 7:00 AM . He treats us strictly as results in his training center. He pulls up very often and my parents have no choice before him. If you have to visit my house you have to be properly dressed. You cannot sit in our drawing room with legs crossed. It is against the etiquette. My grand mother is very submissive and gentle. She prepares breakfast and helps us in getting ready. Although she is past sixty. Yet she is very active and hard working. But for her we do not now how to move about. She is always advising us. She is very loving old woman. My father works as an accountant in a private firm. He sleeps with a calculator in his pocket. He maintains an account book for the whole family. He will not go to sleep before preparing a balance sheet. When we are busy watching TV programs he can be seen talking everyone to task for not giving proper account of daily expenses. When my grand mother brings costly fruit it is balanced by simple chapattis next day. He is a man of principles. He loves us very much. My mother is the finest lady in the world. She does not poke her nose in anything . She is working as a receptionist ina private firm. She has to get up very early in the morning. She is always smiling. When she returns home smile returns to every one's face. My elder brother is a student of senior secondary class. He is a very serious student and does not take part in games etc. His mind is always fixed on studies. He is always doing one thing or the other. I am the youngest in the family. Although I am a student of class X the whole family treats me as a child No one calls me by my proper name. I am moon for all of them. I really feel very awkward when my parents call me moon in the presence of my friends. My friends have also started calling me by this nick name. There is no help because I cannot change my status with anyone in the family. Ours is a very happy family and cooperative. Every member is a very considerate. No one hurts anyone's feeling. All of us cannot think of living without each other. I wish it to prosper by leaps and bounds. How I Spent Last Friday Friday is a holiday and there is a holiday in our school as well. Holiday is a day of rejoice and refreshment. Everyone wishes to spent it in a different way. Different people do different things on the same day. Some people sleep late at night on Thursday and get up very late on Friday. Some people do house hold things on the very day. Some people visit their friends and relations. It is natural that when it is Thursday every body is excited because he knows that the next day is a Friday and he would be enjoying a holiday. Everybody plans to spend this day after his own choice or requirement. I also spend this day in a special way usually different from routine. I usually go home on Friday and do different things. My home is about three kilometers from my school. I usually go to school by bus or van. But last Saturday my friends and I decided to have a cycle trip to Gujranwala on Friday. On Thursday night we made all the arrangements. We got our cycles checked and ironed our clothes. I sent one of my friends to bazaar for necessary shopping. We made a plan to leave early in the morning. So before going to bed everything was done. Last Friday we got up early in the morning cleaned our bicycles and put on our best clothes. We took some milk and sweets and left for Gujranwala. On the way we saw farmers working in the fields and cattle grazing in the pastures. We had some difficulty in crossing small streams that levy in the way. After three hours ride we reached Gujranwala safe and sound. We cycled to a hotel and had a nice meal there. Then we made a round to the town. We saw the shish mahal. The Government college the islamia college the police grounds and the district courts. The Shish Mahal is a very grand building. It attracts a large number of visitors from every part of the province. At 1 P.M. we went to the Friends Cinema where enjoyed the picture called "Pukar". We set out of the school at 4:30 p.m. We reached the school hostel safely at 7:30 p.m. So I had a very happy Friday indeed. A Visit to hill Station The climate of Murree suits me well, but there is a time in the year, usually when the rainy season is well advanced. When I begin to feel tired. This year I was feeling slack and not inclined for work, so I was quite pleased when my cousin Asim who had come down to have his eyes tested by an oculist asked me to come back to Murree for a few days with him. My father gave permission so I went off gladly. I shall never forget my first impressions of the lovely scenery of the hills. I had never before been far from Murree and pictures of hill scenery had altogether failed to convey to me a true picture of the beauty and majesty of the lofty. Slowly the bus puffed its way up the slopes. There were other boys in the bus and they agreed that the engine was saying I think I can. Slowly and with effort. When it reached the top of the hill and started to produce smoke fast again it was saying " I knew I could I knew I could". But the hills covered with noble trees and picturesque rocks and great valley lying in between all combined to fill my mind with a sense of awe and admiration. I am told that there is more impressive scenery in the New Murree Hills but nothing will make me forget the rapture of that first sight of the deodar trees. My uncle's house is just outside Murree and we went frequently for walks across the open country. I found at once a great difference in the air. It seemed to be Murree stimulating more refreshing. Frequently I was not content to walk but had to run a little from pure joy of living. The splendid apples of Murree were no longer available the season being too late for them but I tasted some of the finest figs have ever enjoyed. Murree is a fresh clean city and the pure airs always sweep through the streets. I thought of the olden times now people used to live in these snow covered hills, I went to enjoy Kashmir Point. There I had beautiful scenery. Later I went to Pindi Point. There I enjoyed the chair lift. All it looked wonderful. It was as if the week I spent there passed like a cinema film which had been shown much too fast and I regretted having to leave, though cheered with a promise that I should return in the coming summer and perhaps even visit the neighbouring beauty spot of Murree Hills. The Teacher That Has Influenced Me Most Every student has his ideal teacher or favourite teacher in the school. I have met many teacher during my 10 years of studies in the school. Some of them have also influenced me much by their personal qualities and knowledge. I respect all my teachers and have the privilege to be liked by them all. I can never forget all my teachers who have been teaching me for so many years. But inspite of my respect for all the teachers Mr. Muhammad Farooq is my most favourite teacher in my school. He is my ideal teacher. I love him for his good qualities and vast knowledge. In reality he has all the good qualities which are necessary for an ideal teacher. Mr. Muhammad Farooq teaches us social studies. He is the most popular teacher in our school. All students love him and obey his order very loyally. Even the other teachers give him the highest respect. He has dedicated his life to the noble cause of education. He is taking a lot of interest in his work. He teaches all the students with a missionary spirit. He is a highly experienced teacher. He has read many books. He also possesses a very good library. He often gives his books to the students for reading. His method of teaching is very good. Every student can understand it very easily. He does not mind at all if we ask him questions. Many of his old students are now occupying high offices in the government and other offices. In reality he is one of those teachers who are the builders of our nation. He is double MA in political science and English. Throughout his career he secured 1st division. He has also done his B.Ed securing distinction in the university. He is a man of very good habits. You can always see him in a cheerful mood. He possesses a very impressive personality. He plays games with the students every day. He wears very simple but neat clothes. His simplicity enhances his personality. He is a teetotaler. He is very punctual and regular in his classes. He also wants his students to learn these good qualities. Of course there is a strict discipline in his classes. No student ever dares to create any noise in his class. Mr. Muhammad Farooq is a true seeker of knowledge. He is just like Socrates. He tries to teach us the virtues of truth and justice. He is highly impartial and never discriminates among his students. We all wish him a long and happy life. The Most Interesting Person I Ever Met Once I had to go to Saudi Arabia from Karachi by a ship. My cabin fellow was a man short and sturdy built, Habib by name. His skin was rather dark and he was always clean shaven. His fat hooked nose and very large eyes had made hi a strange figure. His long black hair was sleek aand curly. He spoke English fluently but his accent was not English. Whenever he talked he made many gestures. He was proud of being a Pakistani and liked to travel with the Pakistanis. Too many labels on his suitcases showed that he was a much traveled man. Mr. Habib was the most interesting person I ever met in my life. Mr. Habib was very sociable. He could mix with every sort of company. In three days he knew everyone on board. He was serviceable to all. He used no formalities and called the people by their names without using the word "Mr." He ran everything. He managed the sweeps and conducted the auction on board of the ship. He was hearty gavel and talkative. In short he was everywhere and always. Mr. Habib was disliked by some people because he was in the habit of poking his nose in everybody's affairs. He offered to play cards with everybody and showed the card tricks. He thrust his company upon others much against their wishes. I could not walk around the deck without his joining me. It was impossible to avoid him. It never occurred to him that he was not wanted. Mr. Habib was very proud of his knowledge. He was the chap who knew everything under the sun better than others. He discussed pictures and politics. He was argumentative. To disagree with him was a challenge to him. One evening the conversation drifted to the subject of pearls. Mr. Habib asserted to be an expert in that line also. Mr. Asif a military officer along with his wife was also present. Mr. Habib pointed to Mrs. Asif's chain and declared that it was made of real pearls. According to him its price was 20 to 40 thousand dollars. Mr. Asif refuted to him and told that he bought it for 100 dollars. They bet on it. Mr. Habib examined the chain with a magnifying glass. His eyes showed and I guessed that the pearls were real. But to my great astonishment he admitted that he was mistaken. He lost the bet and paid the amount. The news spread and he was ridiculed. At night in the cabin I asked him if the pearls were not real. He told me that they were real. He explained that when he looked at Mrs. Asif's face there was a desperate appeal. He at once knew that the chain was given to her by her lover. The husband knew only that it was bought for 100 dollars. To save the honor of a lady he had accepted his defeat. I was full of admiration for him. My Summer Vacation Our school closed on May 14. We had been planning both at home as well as with our friends how we should spent the vacation this time. There were many proposals. My parents wished to go to our home town and be with my grand parents for about six weeks or so. My friends had a trekking expedition up their sleeves. While my class mates wished to go to some hill station on an educational tour for which our class teacher had also given consent. I wished to avail of all the three proposals. First I made my mother and elder sister agree to my going on the tour with my class and the teacher as the railway concession was already allowed for such journeys. They requested my father to curtail the programe. To visit the grand parents by a week or two. My father and my mother agreed to go in the advance party to be joined by my sister and e after my tour. My friends agreed to have the trekking after my return from both the journeys as the weather in May was also not conductive to hill climbing. Thus the three journeys were planned in the following order. Educational tour Swat in May home town trip in June and trekking in July. When the monsoon reaches this part of the country. My class teacher had arranged for the railway concession for thirty five students and three teachers. We started on May 20 by Lahore Express at about 2 p.m. reaching Rawalpindi in the evening. There we has tea with snacks at the railway platform since the train stopped there for more than 20 minutes that being big railway junction. Reaching Peshawar we had to take bus for Swat. From there we had to take a bus reaching Nainital in about an hour. We enjoyed our three days stay at Swat very much. There we got booked our rooms in a judge just near the lake. We had boating in that lake four times. We returned on May 25 very much refreshed and happy. My father had booked our seats by Khyber Mail on June 2. I along with my sister went on this journey as already decided and reached Rawalpindi. From there we had to motor down to a town nearby. We stayed with our grand parents for the month of June. Returning in July we went on the trekking trip to Chitral hills and covered 20 kilometers in a day. Rock climbing was pretty arduous. Thus I spent my summer vacation. Five Things I Love Most All of us have our likes and dislikes. So have I. My dislikes are many. But out of my likes I have five at the top. These are Poetry of Nature, Music specially Ghazals, excursions meeting people and reading thought provoking books and magazines. Whenever I find time. I like to do one of them. Infact if depends on mood. I do not like to sit free. I am always doing something. Being a student of literature, I have read Wordworth and his poems have left their lasting effect on me. Other poets of nature who have impressed me most are Dr. Muhammad Iqbal in Urda, Mirza Ghalib , Mir Taqi Mir, and Faiz. All the poets are good but I like Ghalib better. He speaks everyone's heart. Ghalib's poetry is a true reflection of man. He wrote not only love poems but also mystical as well. That is why he is popular even today. Music people say has its effect even on trees plants animal and their growth. Milking cows have shown better yield of milk due to music. In music I like Ghazals best. Iqbal Ghalib Firaq and Saghar Nizaami are some of my choicest poets. In other words I can say music is the food of soul. When I am upset or tired I love to play music I do not like disco. Most of the time I enjoy classical. I have gone on excursions to almost all nearby hill stations and health resorts. I prefer to go on educational scientific and historical tours also and have been to Karachi, Murree, Islamabad, and Peshawar. I usually go with my friends . I have proper timetable. One after another I visit the next place. I have collected a lot of information about them. I have photographs of most of the places. Meeting people from various professions is my another hobby. I have pen friends among intellectuals Artists, Actors, Dancers, Scientists and University Professors. When I get a chance I never miss it. Sometimes I specially make a plan or request someone for an appointment. I like to meet great personalities. My main preference goes to professors and scholars. Reading books on philosophy, Religion Anthropology, World History and Literature is my last liking. I subscribe to magazines and read in libraries also. Books and magazines on these subjects. Religious books are also very important. We feel real peace while reading them. Moreover we come to know how we can succeed in this world and the world here after. A Visit To A Historical Place Lahore is full of historical buildings. There is no exaggeration to say that Lahore itself is a historical city. Everybody who visit Lahore must go to visit historical buildings. They show us the picture of the past and the achievements of our great forefathers. Last Friday we chalked out a program for outing. I had not seen the tomb of Jahangir. So all agreed that this historical place should be visited. In no time we reached there by bus. The grand tomb of Jahangir was before our eyes. Every body was happy to see it. It looked beautiful I could not believe that it was so grand. Jahangir's Tomb is at Shahdara. Shahdara is four miles away from Lahore. On the other bank of the River Ravi. The four tall minerates of the tomb can be seen from a distance. The mausoleum is in a park enclosed by a high wall. There is a magnificent gateway which is guarded by a walled quadrangle. The park appeared to be well kept. The seasonal flowers were in all their glory. There were mange groves here and there spreading in cool shade. A fountain in front of the mausoleum was sending forth a cool shower of water. It was presenting a beautiful scene. It filled our hearts with pleasure. For sometime we were lost in thoughts. It looked another world. Cool breeze was blowing. After it we reached the tomb itself. It is a low large an beautiful edifice. In an inner room sleeps the Great Mughal Emperor. Nothing to disturb him now. The walls of his room have curious and colored designs on them. The huge mausoleum has a vast terrace. In each corner a minaret soars up in the sky. I went up and from the platform of the minaret saw the city of Lahore looked splendid. Man does not believe in his eyes. Everything looked so attractive and so charming. We kept on moving about for quite a while. We sat in the grassy lawn for sometime. When It was evening time the light began to fade. The silence and peace affected us strangely. Our minds were full of solemn thoughts and colorful memories. In the twilight it appeared to us as if we were in a fairy land. The whole scene was presenting a beautiful picture. We were much impressed by the scene. It was time to go back. We did not feel like coming back but we had to. We came back tired but hap Visit To A Popular Café One of the chief delights of having a meal at a popular café is the sense of luxury and importance it gives to its patrons. At home the need for economy is ever with us. The things we eat and the place we eat in are not those of our dreams they are those which can be afforded out of our meager income. But when we go to a café everything is on a grand scale. Electric light bulbs glow by the dozen instead of in single globes. Cakes fruits and sweets rise in mountains form the counters. Cups and plates abound waiters move about gratifying our slightest whim. Each member of the family can choose a different dish without causing undue pressure on the kitchen. We are indeed in a world of riches. To make a visit to a café really satisfactory. We should of course go in a taxi. Then as it draws up out side the brightly lit portals. The gorgeously uniformed commissionaire with his row of medals for all commissioners are war heroes! Throws open a taxi door and courteously assist us to alight. We wait self consciously on the pavement while Father pays the driver, hopping that some of our acquaintances may be passing humbly on foot the other side of the street to observe our glory. As we pass through doors held open for us the rich romantic strains of the orchestra thrill our senses. An aristocratic looking gentleman in evening dress enquired the number in our party and leads us to a table decorated with flowers and set with sparkling cutlery. If one of the family members is too young to reach the table with comfort he hastens to bring a special chair into which the small parton is deferentially lifted by an attendant waiter. Then comes the exciting moment of choosing what we are to eat. The early part of the menu is usually passed over without interest it contains such utilitarian items as soup fish and joints all of which we are given at home with monotonous regularity. The thrilling part of the bill of fare is that marked sundries where the young can find unusual and indigestible dishes such as their souls love. Of course the bonne bouche is an ice cream of some sort preferably one of those highly colored confections in a tall glass bubbling and frosty with two long straws protruding from the top. The youngest member of the family conveniently at the higher extremity of the straw and has to stand on the kneel on the seat in order to arrive at the required height. But this trifling adjustment of posture merely adds to the excitement of the experience. We sit a long time over our meal far longer than at home when meals are rushed through as quickly as parental authority will allow in order to get on with more interesting pursuits. The orchestra changes from waltz to tango and from tango to romantic ballad. Sometimes there is a crooner who makes noises that no music master would allow in a singing class and we wonder vaguely why it is that things punishable at school receive great applause in the adult world. But such puzzles do not worry us for commissionaire will blow a blast on this shrill whistle and like magic the taxi will draw up besides the curb and we shall all crowd in. Tomorrow we shall be ordinary humble people again walking or talking a bus to school and eating pain whole some food in the family dining room but today we have sojourned on Olympus we are gods not men. A Visit To A Museum Museum is a place where rare things of past and present are kept. Those who want to have look into past visit museum. Last Friday my friends and I decided to visit a museum because the museum is a place where you can see a collection of rare things and things of historical interest. It is a store house of all wonderful and valuable things. All the things of the past and the present e can see at one place. There is a big museum in Lahore. It is situated near the Town Hall. In front of it runs the Mall Road and opposite to it stands and University Hall with its lofty clock tower. The museum is in a big building which consists of many big halls. It is managed by all officer. We bought tickets to enter the museum. To visit the museum is an education in itself and for this reason it is visited by hundreds of people every day. Travelers from foreign countries also make it a point to visit it because it enables them to peek into the arts and crafts of Pakistan. Women and children also go to the museum in large numbers every day but may be they go to kill their time. Despite it everybody learns something form the museum. When we entered the first hall we found many pictures hung on its walls. These pictures were of old kings saints and statesmen. Some of these were drawn purely from the imagination. All of them however provided a feast of colors for the eye. If we were to take a student of painting with us he would tell us many interesting things about these pictures and paintings. We might have got more information and knowledge but we just had a look and passed on. At one place we found a collection of the articles of everyday use. While at another place we find beautiful articles. Which were meant for purposes of show only. Side by side with lovely hand loom cloth we found costly only Rs. 300 was displayed by the side of another the price of which also run into three figures. We were happy to see all this. We had a good time in that section. In this hall we found the pottery of Multan the wood work of Gujranwala the shawls of Kashimir the carpets of Karachi and cutlery of Wazirabad. There is also a large collection of old daggers swords, shields weapons and ornaments. All the things were in right order. After this we went to a zoological section. It comprises collection of stuffed animals, birds, reptiles, and fishes. Perhaps the most interesting collection was that of statues of Buddha and Buddhisatvas. Some of them were the finest specimens of sculpture and were dug up from under mounds of earth at Taxila or the Swat Valley. The museum also contained a model house a beautiful model of a steam engine a mainiature Persian wheel and many other beautiful things. We enjoyed each and every object. We kept on moving in the museum more than four hours. We collected information without any boredom. We had a look at the past as well as at present. If however one wants to get information without feeling bored one ought to visit a museum. There one reads history, without tears learns to take interest in one's surroundings and begins to appreciate the value of cottage as well as large scale industries of one's own country its culture customs and ways of the life its people lead. In the end it must be said that the museum is worth a visit. A day spent in it is not a day wasted. Our School The name of our school is Central Model High School. It is situated on the Mall near District Court Lahore. The building of our school is very grand. It is made of bricks. It has 40 rooms. The rooms are airy. Every room has ventilators. Every class is divided into four sections. There are 2000 boys studying in the school. It has a staff of 50 members. The staff is capable and efficient. The principal of the school is a reputed man. He is very popular among the staff and students. He keeps a strict eye upon the students. The school office is managed by one clerk and one cashier. All are hard working and honest. The school has two playgrounds. One tennis courtyard a swimming pool and a nice cafeteria. It has also a beautiful garden where students relax and pass their recess period. We wish that it may make progress by leaps and bounds. Advertisements When ever we pick up any newspaper and you will find pages of it devoted to advertisement. To advertise means to make known publicly. And tradesmen with anything to sell use the newspapers freely to let the public know what goods they have for sale. In these days of extended trade there is no doubt that advertisement is necessary to make the existence of even first class goods widely known. Even goods that are already well known and much used much still be advertised or the sales will drop off. It is said that colman the well known mustard manufacturer once tried to save money by stopping his advertisements. But he found it did not pay and he had to start advertising his already well known mustard again. In its age of cut throat comptetion it is the man who shouts the loudest that attracts attention. So advertisements fill the newspapers and the streets of our towns. The first use then to advertising is that it brings in money to trades who want to sell their goods. It helps the business to flourish. As far as public is concerned it is very useful for them and would be buyers. The consumers would not know of even the existence of many good things if they were not advertised. People wanting certain things can find out where and how to get them from advertisements. And advertisements tell people of many good things of which they have never heard and so introduce them to all kinds of new inventions and usual devices. It improves their taste as well. There is no doubt it is really the advertisements that make cheap newspapers possible. Great journals draw the biggest part of their profits from the sums advertisers pay them for inserting their advertisements. They get far more in this way than the sale of the papers. Many small newspapers could not appear at all but for the income derived from this source. In this way advertisements play an important role. Besides uses advertising has its abuses as well Many advertisements are meant to deceive and do for a time deceive. The public by puffing worthless goods or by grossly exaggerating the quality of inferior articles. Unsuspecting people are thus induced to waste their money in buying sub standard goods. Sometimes advertisements are an eyesore. The craze of huge advertisements on hoardings vulgarizes many pretty country places and disfigure the streets of the cities and important places. On the whole we can say that there are great uses of advertisements. The Advantages Of Reading Newspapers The newspaper is the most powerful of all the organs of expression of the news and views about men and the things. Newspapers are regarded by economists as a necessity of modern life. With the growth of literacy and the development of the means of communication they are playing a very important part in society. There are many advantages of reading the newspapers. Firstly the newspapers keep us in touch with the current world affairs. Without them we cannot know the important news even of our own town or village. It extends the bounds of our knowledge and makes us feel that we are a part of a living world. The leading newspapers are in touch with the different part of the world through certain press agencies. They supply them news from every part of the world. Secondly a great deal of information is supplied to us by the newspapers. Important decisions of law courts are published for the benefit of his own liking. Commercial news are published for the businessmen. Lovers of Radio and the Cinema can look up in them the daily programs of these entertainments. The advertisements help the people to buy things. The unemployed can look up the wanted columns for vacant job. Thirdly newspapers ventilate the grievances of the public and form the public opinion. They keep the public and the government in close contact. The subject matters of the leading articles in the newspapers. The rules come to know of the desire of the people through newspapers. The people get aware of the policies and schemes of the government through this agency. Lastly newspapers have their educative value also. Readers of a good newspaper are more intelligent alert and better informed than scholars. Newspapers help us in disseminating good ideas. In newspapers we find reviews on newly published books. We read accounts of discoveries and scientific research. There are useful articles on every topic. In short newspaper play vital role in our life. A Historical City (Lahore) Lahore is the heart of Punjab and the historical city of Pakistan. It is in many ways a unique city. Lahore means differently to different people. It is the city of gardens the city of the colleges the city of the historical buildings and the city of cities. A long time ago people came here and made it their permanent home. They brought with them new ideas new customs and new cultures which enriched its glorious traditions and made Lahore a precious jewel in this part of the world. Lahore is situated on the left bank of the Ravi has two parts the city proper and the outside Lahore. The city proper is a very ancient town. It was founded thousands of years ago by Lav one of the two sons of Raja Ram Chander. We call it walled city as well. The city is surrounded by an old wall in which there are twelve gates. The streets are narrow and winding. The houses are lofty but most of them are not airy and well lightened. The bazaars are densely crowded. There are public parks round the city. Anarkali Bazar is the busiest part of the city. The places worth seeing in it are the Fort the Minar-e-Pakistan Sunehri Masjid, Wazir Khan Masjid, The Iqbal Park and the Shahi Masjid. The tombs of Jehangir and Nur Jehan lie at Shahdara. The Shalamar Gardens are situated at a distance of about four miles from the city. The civil station was laid out by the English. The Mall is its main road. On the Mall are situated the Museum, the University Buildings the General Post Office , the high court the Government House the Zoo and the Jinnah Gardens. Lahore is the biggest railway junction in the Punjab. The railway station with its very big workshop and offices is worth a visit. It is the capital of the Punjab. There are many offices where hundreds of men are employed. It is the center of education. It is the seat of the Punjab University. It has many schools and colleges. Its population is more than 8 million. People of all classes live here. In short Lahore is a great city. The City In Which I Live There is no doubt that everybody likes his birth place. Wherever he is born he has natural attachment with that. He loves that place more than any other place. According to him there is nothing like that place. The same case is with me. The city in which I live is the largest city in Pakistan. I live in the town of Karachi which is the almost a continuation of Jangshahi. But through it is difficult to say where one town stops and the other begins they are really different in nature and in atmosphere. Karachi is modern looking forward. It has something of olden days an atmosphere of ancient history about its streets and minarets. Karachi is a town of more than 10 million of inhabitants. In the broad and well kept streets you will meet Muslims Christians Parsis and Europeans. You will hear many languages of the world but mostly Urdu. Well furnished and stocked shops adorn the main streets. The roads are beautifully made smooth and level. Fine motor cars and bullock carts pass along them. The old and the new meet in the streets of Karachi. Outside the town is a beautiful sheet of water. On summer evenings it is a pleasure to go out in a sailing or rowing boat. A strong bound of stone contains the water of the tank which is utilized for the Karachi electrical works as well as for the other growing industries. Deep green mango trees line the roads, and in summer the blaze of the gold mohur trees makes Karachi a place of delight and beauty. But away from the roads there are many bare rocks and isolated boulders showing that here as elsewhere in Pakistan carelessness has allowed the soil to erode and the surface of the earth to become damaged. The town is blessed with some excellent schools and colleges. There are many fine schools for boys and girls. There is a first class hospital which was named in memory of Quaid-e-Azam and it provides beds and first class medical attendance for many hundreds of sufferers. The railway has extensive workshops in the superb while out of the city the barracks left by the British are to be seen beautifully built and equipped and capable of holding a division of troops. The citizens of Karachi are justly proud of their town and claim with considerable price that in amenities and living conditions it can compare with any other town ship in the world. Now it is one of the world's largest city. Unfortunately there was law and order situation but despite it I love this city fro the core of heart. It is the city of lights and we are proud of it. Tourism In Pakistan Since the very beginning people have been traveling all over the world. Men like Columbus livingstone. Scott, Marcopolo, Ibn e Batuta and Sa'adi are well known for their wander thirst. Some went to the world in search of knowledge some for pleasure some for conquest with the passage of time traveling was transformed into Tourism. In the present age Tourism has developed into an industry because of the speedier and comfortable air travel and tourist bureau. There are many beautiful spots in Pakistan. There are hill stations and there are many historical buildings there are various opportunities for tourists of all tastes. In 1960 the Govt. of Pakistan set up the Department of Tourism with many branch offices in the country. Six hundred additional rooms have been provided for tourists in Karachi. Tourism and its development in the country has many advantages. First Pakistan is a developing country. She needs Foreign Exchange for planning and developing projects. Promotion of tourism can help us greatly in this matter . In 1966, 77842 tourists visited our country and our country earned 11 lac rupees as foreign exchange. This number has increased much more now. Secondly tourism will expand the hotel industry in the country. The national income will increase many people will get employment air lines and steam ships companies will have a flourishing business local manufacturers will be encouraged. So it will have favorable effects on our economy. Lastly tourist are the non official ambassadors of a country. They help to bring two countries together. The development of Tourism will mean the development of good relations with others. This industry of Tourism has brought all the world closer. Now it has become a global village. People all over the world know about other countries through tourism. Yellow Is My Favorite Color, What's Yours' Ever since I can remember, the color yellow has always attracted me. Somehow, I feel elated and alive whenever I wear something yellow. There was even a time in my life when half of my clothes were in various shades of yellow. I was not really conscious about this until one day during an acquaintance party, somebody used it as an identifying aid – describing me as the “the cute girl in yellow”.  There were others wearing yellow during that party but somehow everyone just knew that I was “the cute girl in yellow”.  Ha ha ha.... Can you guess why' yellow gold sun The Meaning of Yellow Before I learned what the color yellow means, I already had so many favorite yellow things like sunshine and golden roses; mangoes, bananas and corn; yellow ribbons and canaries. Somehow I just seem to gravitate towards yellow things. Then in my readings, I encountered those questions that ask what your favourite color is and you will be told what that means. So I learned that yellow symbolizes enlightenment, creativity, happiness, intellect, eloquence and the power of persuasion. It also means wisdom, joy, optimism, energy, movement, travel and the promise of a positive future. Wow, I like that! Wouldn’t you' No wonder I’m attracted to yellow! Unfortunately, yellow is also associated with cowardice. However this is no longer true here in the Philippines. Why'  Because yellow is now the new symbol of bravery. I will talk about this though in the later part of this hub. At this point, let me tell you about some other aspects or ideas about the color yellow. More Yellow Colours The Color Yellow and Health In health and healing, it is advisable to use yellow if you want to promote clarity of thought. Yellow also energizes people and relieves depression. This is probably the reason why hospital walls usually have yellow paint. Those who are into chakra healing and understanding know that the color yellow is associated with the solar plexus chakra. This chakra (which is found between your navel and sternum or approximately your gut), deals with identity or self esteem. So wearing yellow will not only develop your self esteem but also your “gut feel”. Yellow is definitely a perky color. It is associated with the healing qualities of the sun. So it gives energy, warmth, optimism, happiness and light. Now I understand why I feel lighter every time I wear something yellow. So if you want any of the following: *  sharper memory, clarity of thought, concentration skills, alertness; *  relief from “burnout” and exhaustion; * developed self esteem and “gut feel”; and * protection against lethargy and depression, then the color yellow is what you need. Use it on various things around you like your wall or a vase of yellow flowers. People who suffer from SAD or “seasonal affective disorder” or “winter blues” may get an extra lift if they wear something yellow or surround themselves with bright, yellow things. If however you are suffering from palpitations and nervousness, then the energetic effect of yellow is not the answer. Rather you will need the calming effects of blue and green. The Color Yellow and Products/Advertisement Yellow is considered a children’s color because it brings happiness or joy and anticipation.  It has a relaxing and yet warming effect just like sunshine. So yellow is considered as a good choice to advertise children’s products or to attract people to your place. Just think of McDonald’s and its big yellow arch or Jollibee and the big bee. Yellow is not a good color however if you are advertising a product that is meant to represent stability and seriousness. It is known that people who are blind to other colors can see yellow. Thus this color (in combination with black) is used to paint those road signs and road barriers so we see them readily. Yellow also signifies clarity of message. Think of your yellow pad and yellow pencils. Then there is “yellow pages” in your telephone directory and the yellow color of taxis and buses. However, yellow is not a good color when it refers to journalism because “yellow journalism” is synonymous with sensationalism in journalistic reportage. Yellow Flowers and their Meaning In general, yellow flowers mean happiness and friendship. However, during the Victorian era, yellow roses signified jealousy. This has now changed of course to its present meaning of friendship, companionship, joy, and freedom in life. Yellow tulips also symbolize hopeless or unrequited love while marigolds can mean jealousy, grief and cruelty. So you have to be careful what kind of flowers you are sending to your love ones. The Color Yellow around the World The color yellow represents the element of Air in Greek history and philosophy. It symbolizes the sun, grain, and the power of thought. In Chinese history and culture, yellow is associated with royalty and respect. It is the color of emperors during the Ming and Qing dynasties.  Saffron robes on the other hand are synonymous with Buddhist monks. Yellow is the color for mourning in Egypt while to merchants of India, yellow is the symbol for peace. In Polynesia, yellow is also a color of royalty and divinity. And to the Zuni, yellow symbolizes the North. In Aztec culture on the other hand, yellow means food because it is the color of corn, their primary food. While yellow has many positive meanings like, happiness, intellect, energy, and clarity of thought, it also has a negative connotation meaning sickness (as in jaundice) and cowardice. In Japan however, yellow represents courage, and so too in the Philippines. Traveling changed my life Traveling changed my life. I can’t be less dramatic than that; it certainly did. I backpacked for months around Europe and by the time I came back home I was a new man. It was a before and after moment in my life. I came back as a better person. I progressed and improved. It was as if I had lived for a few years in just those couple of months. Since then I recommend everyone to take some time off studies or work and go out to the see world. I changed and you can change. Here are the biggest lessons and biggest progresses I made when traveling: 1- Social phenomenon. Before I set forth for my first trip I had never been a very social person. I had never had many friends and hardly took the center stage; I was just one more guy. That, though, changed in a blast after the first experiences abroad. I totally transformed. How was this possible' It’s simple: it’s a law of numbers. I met so many people on the road that I practiced more conversation that I would do in a lifetime back home. I was traveling alone after all: it’s speaking or dying of loneliness. I gave a try to the first and the results can easily be seen. And traveling alone is not such, as in the end you are always around people. If you are not in the mood of starting a conversation someone else will; it just happens. You don’t even have to put that much effort: let things flow and the results will come alone. Few times did I go for dinner alone or took a long distance trip without meeting someone. Let yourself flow, but be wise. When traveling you’ll have the best atmosphere to practice your speaking, charisma and social skills. See what works, what doesn’t, what makes you more friends, what doesn’t make you, etc and calibrate accordingly. I assure you that by city number ten you’ll be a much better speaker than you were before. Exactly the same happens with seduction. After meeting so many people and partying so much it will be inevitable for you to fall in love with someone (or having someone fall in love with you.) It’s the law of numbers again. Couple it with calibration and you are all set. After my trips I transformed into the guy all girls want to be with it. It didn’t happen just because: I did more socializing and met more women in those few months that I had on the rest of my life altogether. 2- Shock of maturity. I like to think about traveling as an odyssey. It was no less than that for me: it was a quest for myself. On the way this quest takes the best of you out, improves you and makes you more mature. Maturity was especially significant for me: I was, for the first time, far away from my family and friends. My closest acquaintance was a few thousand kilometers away. That was a big shock of responsibility. I realized that I was alone in the world for real. That demanded a lot from me. I had for the first time to really take care of my money and belongings, plan budgets and to really be careful with my time. Sometimes a small mistake can really fuck things up, you got to be really wise. I took it lightly and didn’t want to dramatize, but I met people who were totally overwhelmed. Being there made me also think much more maturely.  It made me see the world differently and to think much deeper than I was used to. Again, this was also inevitable. The experiences were so many and so huge that it was like living for years in just months. I started to think about new things, ideas and projects. I paid attention to other things and philosophized more than I had done in a lifetime. 3- Learning skills. Learning is the biggest part of traveling. When you travel you’ll learn things that go beyond traditional personal development. From socializing to languages, you’ll learn different series of skills that will make you a better person. Which skill to learn depends on you, but my examples are: Cooking Before I traveled I didn’t even know how to boil water. I was that ignorant. After months on the road and living alone for a long time I became an avid chef aficionado. Whatever you can imagine, I can cook it. Maybe not that much… But I certainly learned to love the arts of cooking and will produce the best dishes travelers around will find. Guys, I even travel with a Spices Kit, eh. And learning to cook goes beyond the pleasure of a good meal. It’s an opportunity to relax, socialize and share a moment with your new friends. It’s good vibe and I recommend anyone embarking on a trip to do it. Languages Traveling is the best way of learning a language. Settle down for a month or two at some place and if you put enough effort your foreign languages will improve a lot. I made sure to make the most of wherever I was. In Italy, for example, I would go to the piazza and speak with the old ladies. In Austria I started working for the Eurocup 2008 and learned the language while watching the most exciting football games. In Greece I started working as chef in Paros, a paradisiacal island, and learned my little Greek there. I found it a lot of fun and it’s something great for professional and personal life. It’s true that on the road most people you’ll meet will speak English. Most of the world does. But a language goes beyond sole speaking… It’s a mechanism to achieve deeper connections with different cultures and different people. That’s what makes the learning special! The skills you’ll learn depend on you. Some learn to knit, some to draw, to write, to dance… The possibilities are endless. Just take one or two and focus on them. 4-Become someone international. From Japan to Russia and from Iceland to Australia, it’s hard for me to think about a place where I don’t know someone. I met so many people while traveling that it’s just normal. I love it; it’s something beautiful and one of the things I treasure the most about traveling. These new friendships would be almost impossible at home. But they are a reality and what made me discover a lot about my own personality and the world itself. But being international it’s also about culture. You’ll learn so much about history that you’ll open your mind to a whole lot of new possibilities. If you are a little bit nerd as I am the amount of museums and the different cultures you’ll see will make travel literally heaven for you. And, even if you are not, the likes of the British Museum, The Louvre or the Acropolis are a huge inspiration to anyone with a bit of brains 5- You are going to become a dreamer And last, it’s on this moment when you start to dream. Once you meet people and hear about their own quests and adventures you’ll get an overwhelming inspiration. You’ll hear stories and anecdotes that are so amazing that you won’t want to settle for a conventional life. You’ll hear about feats long thought impossible, discover unconventional lifestyles and meet people that could be easily called living legends. The more you travel, the more people you’ll meet and the most inspired you will. That’s the biggest legacy these trips will leave inside you. Once you try it you won’t want to let it go. Philosophical Conclusion One doesn’t travel to run away from reality. On the contrary, it’s a quest to find your own, to find all what you believe in. It’s a way to let it all go out. It’s an odyssey to find which is the path you want to take in life. It will all leave an unerasable mark in your soul. When you get back home, you will never be the same. A day changed my life I was a little worried writing about my mother because I thought it would seem like I was looking for sympathy, but I figured it was a good topic to write about because it had the largest effect on me. My goal became to write an essay that didn't focus on the death or loss but on the change and growth that took place. Being active is something that has always been important to me, and I learned this from growing up with and observing an expert. My mother was more active and involved than anyone I have ever known. She had an endless energy for life, and love for my two brothers and me, and I have tried to be the kind of person that she was. The phrase on her headstone reads: "A joyous and boundless energy." My mother was a highly respected kindergarten teacher for twenty years. In addition to working with children as a professional, she was always involved in my elementary school years, as a class mother or President of the PTO. In the summers there were more children, as we would go to sleepaway camp in Maine and she would be in charge of the youngest group of campers. She was always running, playing, consoling, planning, and caring for children. At home, she was just as active. I remember doing homework with her every night and she got so involved with it that she would practically do it for me, which I thought, at the time, was a pretty good thing. We were always going places, visiting friends, just learning, and there was never a dull moment. Though I didn't know it consciously at the time, she was setting an example which I was bound to follow. Though it was a small beginning, I began the next year by becoming class president. I joined every club I could and participated in different sports. I wanted to do as many different things as I could. One of my memories of junior high was being busy every lunch period with meetings: the math team, student government, Junior National Honor Society. I was the this little tiny kid, the smallest in my grade, and I was always running around and talking. I remember being scolded many times for what I thought was having too much energy. I was always taught, by my mother, that energy was a good thing, and when it got me in trouble it was very confusing. I continued with this energy and involvement throughout my high school years.
