The Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning System [pic][pic] Westinghouse [pic] Ultra Efficient Comfort System A/C,Ductless Split System,BtuH 9700,115v with IQ Drive [pic] [pic] ASX18 Air Conditioner Super Efficiency with the Trane XL15i | | |HVAC, or “Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning” is most often pronounced either “H-V-A-C” or sometimes “H-vack”. “Climate Control” is | |another term used to describe HVAC and is a vital component in the inner-workings of larger commercial buildings, such as office buildings | |or industrial sites. This could include skyscrapers as well as aquatic buildings such as aquariums or nautical zoos, in which places the | |temperature and humidity inside needs to be closely monitored and at the same time, to maintain and healthy and safe environment. Heating, | |ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) is rooted in the standards of heat transfer, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics. | |Many important and critical discoveries and inventions were made by people such as Michael Faraday, Reuben Trane, William Rankine, Willis | |Carrier, James Joule and Sadi Carnot amongst others. These inventions and discoveries of the elements that make up HVAC methods were | |intricately linked to the revolution of industrial advancements, especially in the last century. HVAC systems are constantly evolving as | |new methods are discovered, creating higher levels of efficiency. | |As suggested by its name, there are three main tasks to be accomplished by the HVAC – heating, ventilation and air conditioning. The three | |are interconnected and are all seeking to supply comfort of temperature and quality of indoor air while maintaining a comfortable living or| |working environment in your home or business. These systems grant proper ventilation to the areas it services, as well as maintaining | |comfortable standards of air pressure between spaces. The process by which air is removed from certain areas and delivered to others is | |called room air distribution. This is, of course, the most important job of the HVAC system. | |Selecting and installing the correct size of HVAC system is of the utmost importance. It is imperative that a calculation of load | |circulation is performed prior to the selection and installation of an HVAC unit. This will enable you to properly choose the device which | |will meet all your heating and cooling needs. Once the calculation is made, the proper size of HVAC can be installed, thus ensuring maximum| |comfort, the lowest possible operating cost as well as proper humidity control. | |In buildings which are new or relatively new – within the past 10 years – the control systems, installation and design of these functions | |are all incorporated into at least one and sometimes more than one HVAC system. In smaller buildings, the size should be determined before | |selecting the HVAC system or equipment. In larger buildings, there are certain laws and safety standards which must be kept in compliance. | |In all size buildings, it is common to have to obtain building permits and inspections of code-compliance of the installations. | |The effectiveness of the HVAC system has an enormous influence on numerous issues in your home or building. You will experience the | |consequences of an HVAC system that is not functioning properly in some of the following ways: | |Possibility of the formation of mold in your home or building. | |Increased energy bills | |If left untreated for too long, the result could the leakage of Carbon Monoxide | |Uncomfortable setting in which to live or do business | |For your air conditioner to perform well, you need to make sure that the air filters therein are clean and match the unit. Clean air | |filters facilitate cleaner environment. They protect you from the allergies caused by dust. The sole purpose to own air conditioning | |filters is to keep each part of air conditioner free from dirt. | |Air filter has reduced heating and cooling level. And, it often leads to breakdown in the compressor. It increases the consumption level of| |blower power. Those equipments having dirty filter last for a shorter duration. | |It is necessary to clean air filters regularly. If it is for office purpose, you need to clean them once in 14 days. Likewise, while using | |at home, clean them once in 60 days. It is not good to allow the air filters accumulate dust first and then clean them. When dust gathers | |around the fiberglass, it is clearly an indication that the air filters need either cleaning or replacement. | |Air Conditioner Types: | |1. Furnace filter: Air cleaner furnace filter is cost-efficient. It removes cat dander, fungi and other pollutants related to pets. | |2. Allergen filter: Allergen filter from 3m is 93 percent effective. It captures air-borne particles that pass through air filters. | |Allergen filter even removes minute particles such as household dust, smoke, bacteria and pet dander. It even removes particles, which | |carry odors of tobacco smoke and bacteria. | |Key features of allergen filter are as below: | |It is a high performance air filter. It captures allergens such as mold spores, dust and pollen. It attracts the microscopic allergens such| |as smog, carriers of virus, smoke and bacteria. Its airflow is better by about 15 percent. It is free from antimicrobial chemicals. It | |meets all quality guidelines that are laid for indoor air services. Allergen filter may last for more than three months depending on its | |condition. This type of air filter is most suitable for residential use. It is an electrostatic air filter, which effectively attracts both| |the tiny and large air-borne particles. | |3. Humidifier filter: You may have this type of air filter installed in a bedroom of average size. It has the High Efficiency Particulate | |Air (HEPA) filter. You need to vacuum this air filter twice each year. This filter promotes health by purifying the air against harmful | |impurities. It is even affordable. For people, who are prone to allergy and asthma, having this type of air filter is better deal. | |4. Electrostatic air filter: As you breathe, you are at risk of inhaling many irritants and allergens such as smoke, bacteria and dust. | |These particles are not visible, as they are tiny and measured in microns. An electrostatic air filter works by capturing the dust | |particles. They remain there until you wash the filter. Such an air filter saves you many dollars, as you need not purchase disposable | |filters. This air filter is efficient by 90 percent. You may have this air filter installed in both offices and residence. | |This air filter works better as far as it remains clean, allowing air easily to pass through it. To find out how better the filter is | |working, wash it in a tub and allow the water to hold. Place this water into any glass to see the particles that this filter had trapped. | |You may easily see the dust particles floating on the surface. | |5. Aprilaire furnace filter: This filter facilitates clean air all through your home. You get it at an affordable price. It traps or | |attracts 98 percent air-borne dust that is visible including large particles. It captures pollen permanently and shows efficiency of about | |97 percent. You need to replace the filter once in every two years, since its installation. | |Air handlers give off the necessary energy to transfer air throughout the ductwork of your house or building. The air conditioning unit | |consists of two major components, the outdoor unit and the indoor unit. The indoor unit is the air handler. Without this appliance, your | |air conditioning system would only serve to cool your ductwork and not actually your air. The air handler is usually used in place of a gas| |furnace and is just as cost-efficient. The air handler is responsible for circulating the cool air in the summer and the heated air in the | |winter. It works together with the outdoor unit, or the condensing unit. The two cannot function independently of one another. | |Air handlers function in connection with an air conditioning system or heat pump system. Although they look simple to the untrained eye, | |they are actually the main components of the air conditioning system, as this is where the main motor is housed. | |Normally, air handlers have a filtration system which is made up of air conditioning filters that work to protect your air conditioning | |system and refrigeration system, as well as your home, from unhealthy or unwanted dirt or debris. In residential air conditioning systems, | |air handlers are generally controlled by a thermostat, which can be manual, digital or modern programmable varieties. | |In keeping with good ethical and environmental practices, energy-efficient air handlers are available. Some power companies even offer | |incentives if you install an environmentally-friendly and energy-conserving system in your home or business. In these types of systems, a | |variable speed motor (VSM) will automatically make a power adjustment in accordance to the setting on your thermostat. This will conserve | |energy and even save you money on your monthly energy bill. | |As with all components of your air conditioning system or central air system, it is imperative that air handlers be well-maintained. If | |your indoor unit, or air handler, is installed in an inaccessible or inconvenient location of your home, it is more likely that the | |maintenance is not occurring as often as it should. For this reason, it is suggested to have your air conditioning unit installed in a | |location in your home with easy access for maintenance and functionality. Air handlers operate at their best when they are regularly | |serviced. It is important to pay close attention to the filters and ducts of your air conditioning system. It is advisable to change your | |system’s filters every 30 to 60 days and to have the ductwork in your home or building inspected on a yearly basis. | |Your indoor unit, or air handler, will provide you with pleasant cool air in summer and cozy warm air in winter as long as you maintain and| |look after the unit. It is a long-term relationship you can really cozy up to! | |The compressor is the central functioning unit of any cooling system and the same is true of the HVAC compressor. In general, a compressor | |is a mechanism that, as its name suggests, compresses gas by diminishing its volume. This is the primary basis of any heating, ventilation | |and air conditioning system (HVAC). | |When a gas is compressed in the HVAC unit, the temperature of the gas naturally increases. In effort to represent the process of gas | |compression, there are two abstract comparisons between pressure and temperature in a given volume of a compressing gas. It is important to| |recognize that this is only an example and does not exactly match the real world, but can be useful for comparison and examination: | |Isothermal: This illustration presumes that the gas which is compressed stays at a consistent temperature throughout the process of | |compression or expansion. During this cycle, internal power is taken out of the system and heat at the same speed is added during the | |compression work of the mechanism. When a large surface for exchanging heat is present, then the Isothermal example more closely resembles | |real life compression. This is also true when there is small gas volume or a long time frame. Perfect isothermal compression is | |accomplished in compressors that use inter-stage cooling in between the different stages of compression. | |Adiabatic: This illustration presumes that no heat, or energy, is transported from the gas while it is undergoing the compression process. | |It also assumes that all the work supplied is increased to the internal energy of the compressed gas which results in an increase of | |pressure and temperature. This rise in temperature and air means that compression does not follow a common ratio of pressure to volume. | |This tends to be less efficient but is much more quickly accomplished. When there is good insulation, a short time frame and larger gas | |volume, then adiabatic compression more tightly resembles real life compression. | |Polytrophic: This illustration considers both loss of energy, or heat, as well as a rise in temperature. This presumes that heat is able to| |leave or enter the compression system and that the input work in the shaft will appear as both increased pressure (which results in useful | |running) and increased temperature, which would be above adiabatic (which results in losses because of the efficiency of the cycle is | |lacking). In this case, the efficiency of compression is the ratio of actual (polytrophic) versus temperature rising at a hypothetical one | |hundred percent (adiabatic). | |The desired result of the HVAC system is a change in temperature and the compression of gas is a means to that end, as it works together | |with the entire heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. The functionality of your HVAC compressor directly relates to the overall| |working of your HVAC system. It is imperative to properly maintain and service the entire HVAC unit as recommended by your dealer or | |service provider. With the proper maintenance of your unit, you will experience comfortable environmental conditions inside your home or | |building for many years to come. These are just a few things that are important to the HVAC system. | | | | |
