Heredity and Hormones Heredity: When a person is conceived they receive genes from both of their biological parents as they are a forming fetus. When this takes place that fetus inherits certain traits from each parent’s genes whether they will be a positive or negative influence on that person in the future. As a fetus is form their hereditary genes turn into characteristics that will follow them throughout their lives. Although the genes a person has dictates a lot of their behaviors and the way they perceive things, it does not make a person who they are solely. Instead they are also influenced and molded into the person they become over their lifespan with their surroundings and genes. Hormones: There is a system that is the beginning of it all when it comes to hormones and that is called the endocrine system. “The endocrine system is instrumental in regulating mood, growth and development, tissue function, and metabolism, as well as sexual function and reproductive processes.” (http://kidshealth.org) The endocrine system is in charge of releasing hormones into each and everyone’s bloodstreams. I say each and every one because this is a very important human function. The hormones that are released have a cause and effect on the body. They play a huge role in the shaping of the human behavior. The seven glands that are a vital role in dispersing hormones throughout the body are the pineal gland, thyroid gland, parathyroid gland, pancreas, pituitary gland, gonads, and lastly the adrenal glands. The pineal and pituitary glands are found in the direct center of the human brain. The pineal gland that is in the center of the brain, helps regulates energy levels throughout the day as well as secretes. The pituitary gland is found on the underside of the human brain. It is responsible for producing the most hormones in the body. That is why it is called the “Master Gland”. Evolutionary Psychology: This is an approach tp a particular science that studies social and nature theories. This involves memories, language, and how people perceive things. This study basically looks to prove what traits are adaptation and which are physiological. Evolutionary psychologists argue that much of human behavior is the output of psychological adaptations that evolved to solve recurrent problems in human ancestral environments. (en.wikipedia.org)
