Training and Development Paper HCS/341 June 25, 2012 Training and Development Paper A teacher would not walk into a classroom without developing an idea of what he or she wanted to accomplish, someone in the health care professional should be no different. It is because of this fact that training and education in this field is vital. Training and education is so important because some health care technicians or providers, conduct physical examinations, perform routine nursing care, and administer medication, and assist with emergency situations. This fact makes it necessary for organizations in the health field to keep abreast of the various changes. This also speaks to the importance of proper training and education, measuring competencies and the process for tracking, and evaluating the effectiveness of that training. The objective of training and education is to foster dedication and commitment as health care providers. This training also helps healthcare providers recognize areas for improvement, required certifications and proper licenses. There will always be a need for additional training, due to up to date company policy and procedures. More important, there is nothing like hands on experience when it comes to proper healthcare as it relates to patients. It is so important for patients to feel safe and secure. It is also the responsibility of the healthcare provider to provide comfort and assurance that they will received the best of care. To err is human, therefore mistakes are expected. The patients should be the primary concern of all healthcare providers. Healthcare employees are in daily contact with patients, and the slightest mistake could be disastrous. Each action that workers takes, have to be perform correctly, in order to protect both the patient and the organization. All medications, advanced surgical procedures, and other medical advancements demands comprehensive training. Furthermore, an educational program keeps the organization abreast of the changes in this growing field. Continue education and training is imperative for all areas of the healthcare industry. On the job training and education are important traits in the healthcare industry which encompasses work experience, abilities, skills and knowledge is brought to the forefront. A competency is more than just knowledge and skills. It involves the ability to met complex demands, by drawing on and mobilizing psychosocial resources (including skills and attitudes) in a particular context (Salganik, 2005). For instance, the ability for one to communicate effectively is a competency which an individual’ language, skills and attitude towards those with who one is communicating. The importances of competences for healthcare professionals are becoming more complex because their job’s responsibilities require more than just mastery of certain narrowly defined skills. Measuring competence is necessary in defining the ability of healthcare employees that is responsible for providing quality care service. Although a provider maybe performing their responsibility correctly, it is so important that the provider utilizes the knowledge and skills obtained through the training and education. To fully understand why their responsibility is important, and not performed their duties out of formality. Evaluations can only be performed effectively in the employee understands what is expected of them. Tracking and evaluating is a critical element to any organization. Evaluations methods are determined on the goals of the training process and should meet the demands of some stakeholders involved which stakeholders groups include the training department employees and business units. Some organizations training department demands information about competency learning to determine the effectiveness of training and delivery approach. “Data concerning the overall effectiveness of training procedures, appropriateness of media and instruction methods and other issues relating to possible revisions in instructional design may prove to be very valuable to the training department and will assist them in better serving the needs. (Carr, 2002).” When this process is administered, it is responsible for bring out what the provider learned. This ensures that the provider transfer learned knowledge to their job responsibilities. The word training takes on different meanings depending on the organization. Training is defined as a continuous process of analysis that evaluates the training carried out by an organization, defining its aims, assessing the need for it, finding out how people react to it and measuring its effects of the organization overall performance. In a nut shell, the world is ever changing, healthcare and other organizations must change with it. The many components of healthcare must implement the importance of education and training. More importantly it is the responsibility of the employer to ensure that the recipients of the training comprehend and implement what they have learned in applied that knowledge to their daily responsibility.
