Term Definition How Used in Healthcare
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
The federal government which has been designed for the HIPAA to protect the patient information within the guidelines that does provide the privacy standards. Health insurance plans for the employers and employees.
Electronic medical record
This is where the entire patient’s information is put into the electronic file for all the medical needs on the chart. For physician to resource to help the patient when they are sick or other health problems.
Electronic health record
Is a way of delivering the patient’s information in a generated by one or more delivery setting. All the patient information which is part of the file for medications, lab reports, progress notes, vital signs and medical history.
Personal health record
Many doctor’s office will keep charts for all their patients that come into the office. So they can keep track on all their patients’ progress and knowing is going on with the patients’ health so they know if they are making progress or not. For providers to keep current information on their entire patient.
Computerized provider order entry system
Ordering, transcribing, dispensing and administration. All this needs to be taken into consideration when a patient is being put in a hospital so they get the right dose of their medication. The provider needs to make sure all the medication is right for the patient. An information and communication technology needs to develop including patients and their providers.
