An inventory was conducted different communication channels in the health care organization. Communication is an essential part in how an organization operates. The most effective ways of communicating is verbal communication and e-mail. Each morning the charge nurse meets with the staff to assign daily tasks. Planning these daily tasks will ensure that each team member will be aware his or her assignments for the day. The charge nurse goal is to ensure that the work is equally shared. Providing quality healthcare depends on how the staff’s ability to communicate with the staff and with the patients. All members of the team need to communicate in an effective and timely manner, in order to ensure robust standards of patient safety (Ashurst & Taylor, 2010).
Technology has improved how health care providers and staff convey messages to the patients. New technology should not replace the interpersonal contact a provider has with a patient. Verbal communication is an effective way of communicating with patients. For instance, a patient has an abnormal lab report, the nurse or provider will notify the patient by phone. Even though technology has improved the lines of communication with patients, providers like to explain abnormal labs to patients should he or she has any questions. If the labs are normal the patient will get a secure message on the organizations website only if a patient has enrolled on kp.org. Otherwise a patient will receive normal lab report by mail. Kaiser Permanente goal is to have 100% of its patients signed up on kp.org (Pearl, 2009). According to Pearl (2009) the organizations have 89% of its patients subscribe. E-mail is the most common accessible electronic channel used in the health care organization and has become more wide spread interactions between patients and a physician, such as follow-up inquires, receiving data from home monitoring, and adjustment of medication (Gartner, 2006).
