Hardware and Software CIS-207 WEEK 3 Assignment I’ve always worked with computers my whole life, back from when I was in 2nd grade and I remember when we purchased our first computer and it was cool and fun to play games like “wolf stein” and a fighter jet plane called “raptor”. And that’s my first impression of having a computer, which is for games, software’s, and school work. But being a DJ and back into the world of having a job that deals with computers, I never thought that the companies I’ve helped would require having certain software’s to complete the daily schedules of completing “WORK”. I’ve only worked mostly two different job fields, which is sales for cell phone companies and in a hospital as a physiotherapist. Both jobs have used computers, and now that I am in this class I can adapt my learning’s from my previous jobs to this assignment we are working on as well as my future projects and my future career that I’m positive would require a computer. Our group is working with a tool and hardware that scan’s. This type of equipment has help benefit many business from the past, because back in the day they would have to be writing down inventory daily which could’ve taken many hours and days. Examples are post offices, fed-ex, UPS, and many others, but now with this technology that is increasing every day; the new tool and software to scan, would get the inventory work completed faster within hours or minutes. For my organization example I will use my previous job with cell phones. There were a lot of inventory to work with and what really saved us was using a USB scanner gun to simply input the bar code numbers and sort them in the sections that they belong to, we would organize the Samsungs, Motorola’s, Nokia’s, and Blackberry’s etc. phones. And the way the interface and the software worked was it would be only on the desktop computer at every store or kiosk with limited space to stretch the USB cable from the computer to scan bar codes. The assignment we have been working with, I honestly know that creating that type of tool and software we are brainstorming together would benefit in a business for cell phones especially a full commission based sales position. This could help with; • Saving time, which means less scanning • More sales and customer service. • Save money on tools and hardware This would save labor and time for a business/company, because it would require some or a few employee’s who could simply visit different stores, kiosk’s, and warehouses with the scanner tool and take all the inventory down and let the other employees do their work to earn more of their commission pay and help with more of the customer care. I remember working and we would take turns deciding who will input the inventory, so we could all go home at the exact time, and there were times I or the other employees would wait until after work so we could focus on selling and earning more money, but then when the day is finished one person would stay after and do the inventory scanning of all phones and accessory equipment which taken a hour or two after work. So back to what I have said with a few employees who could go to different areas within the company to take down the scanning of all inventories, how this works with our project is because the software would work with a specific equipment, which for a example; the “fed-ex/ups gun” • Works wireless, sends information quiker to the main computer data base • Saves money and effort for the company (less man power) • All employees leave work right on schedule In conclusion our group is one of the greatest knowledgeable individuals I have worked with, I’ve learned a lot about how newer software’s can benefit any business and organization. I have thought too much about the jobs that I want to work for in the future, and I keep getting nervous about if I’m going to do good or not, but now working on this new project and assignment, I feel more confident about the teachings I have received and know that in my next future career I can go in there whether it be entry or advance level and I can do the best of my ability and offer new ideas and succeed in my position because I will adapt all my learning’s. Technology keeps improving every day and I want to be part of it and work with it.
