Hard-working people have always been Belarus’ biggest asset MINSK, 1 July (BelTA) – Conscientious work has always been treated with great respect in Belarus, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said as he conferred state awards on Belarusian citizens on 1 July, BelTA has learnt. The President noted that he is pleased to see best agricultural and industrial workers, police officers, the military, talented managers, government employees, representatives of culture and sport among the awardees. “You represent different generations, professions, nationalities, but you are united by a common goal – the prosperity of our country. Let this ceremony become the symbol of spiritual unity, stability and the potential of the Belarusian society,” Alexander Lukashenko said. Alexei Grishin, member and instructor of Belarus’ national freestyle skiing team, has been awarded a special prize of the President of the Republic of Belarus, Belarusian Sports Olympus 2010, in recognition of his high achievements at international competitions, gold medal at the Olympic Games in Vancouver. “The whole country supported him, and he justified our expectations. This can be said about everyone who receives these symbols of recognition and distinction. You lived up to our expectations, materialized our most ambitious plans,” the head of state said. The head of state noted that the majority of the awardees are people working in the agricultural sector. According to the President, they proved that it is absolutely possible to meet the targets of enhancing the quality and competitiveness of agricultural produce. The awards were presented to people working in the manufacturing industry and construction. The construction of Stolitsa underground shopping mall and Minsk-Arena sports facility is a testimony to their great professionalism. Addressing the specialists of the construction industry, Alexander Lukashenko stressed that now they need to find the ways to cheapen the cost of one square meter of housing. New apartments should not only meet all requirements of citizens. They should be affordable as well, the head of state said. The President thanked road construction specialists for their significant contribution to the construction of roads and bridges. According to the President, they helped make the country more beautiful and the living conditions more comfortable. The head of state expressed gratitude to the employees of the National Statistics Committee (chief of the committee, Vladimir Zinovsky, was awarded the Order of Fatherland, 3rd class), the regional offices of the committee. Alexander Lukashenko noted that the 2009 population census employed the most advanced information technologies and software. The President praised the high level of the organization and conduct of the census. Alexander Lukashenko thanked the specialists of the taxation bodies for their fine service, and the interior ministry officers for uncompromising and unremitting fight against crime. The state awards were conferred upon talented managers, teachers – people who committed their life to serving the homeland. The head of state emphasized that hard-working people have always been Belarus’ biggest asset and remains the chief resource of the country. “Modern day life constantly presents new requirements to the quality of production, education, managerial skills. I am sure that people like you will help us address the most challenging tasks in all the spheres of our life,” the Belarus President added.
