Is Halloween Holy' Brianna Starks Halloween brings about much controversy, especially within churches. Clearly, pastors have very different beliefs about celebrating it, but which one is right' It is the pastor who openly welcomes the idea of Halloween, or the leader who firmly states his church isn’t allowed to participate' This controversial holiday is the cause of debate for many people. Halloween seems like the perfect day. Receiving free candy, dressing up, visiting friends, and playing games are just some of the advantages! Understandably, many people love to celebrate. “Halloween is the opportune time to share the love of Christ,” says Reverend Jason Taylor, of Zion Lutheran Church. Carving a cross into a pumpkin or passing out tracks with treats are just some of the ways he thinks we can give God the glory. In a recent article he quoted I Corinthians 10:31 which says, “…Whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” “As long as you are sharing God’s love, dress up, trick or treat, and hang your decorations,” he opinionates. It may seem like killing two birds with one stone; sharing God’s love while having fun! But how does God feel' You may be exchanging a track for candy, but your witness isn’t very strong. You can’t have to much of an impact dressed as a witch. You can’t mix God and Satan. 2 Corinthians 6:14 states “…What fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness' and what communion hath light with darkness'” Halloween is a holiday of darkness. It is Satan’s holiday disguised to look like fun and games. What glory does God get from it' By dressing up as vampires, fairies, and witches, how are you praising God' God wants us to overcome demons; why are you dressing like them' By eating pounds of chocolate and carving pumpkins, what adoration are you giving the Lord' None. Because God and Satan don’t go hand in hand. So, the churches which don’t allow the practice of this demonic holiday are righteous. The pastors who preach against Halloween are honest. Halloween isn’t holy, isn’t right, and isn’t giving ANY Glory to God. God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 1 John 1:15
