BUSINESS PROPOSAL
1.0 A Proposal to set up a waiting area.
1. Golden Screen Cinema or known as GSC is the largest chain of cinemas in Malaysia. GSC was founded in 1981 as Golden Communication Circuit but later its name was changed to GSC when Golden Communication (GC) Circuit merged with Cathay Cinemas in 1998. There are 23 GSC cinemas in Malaysia including East Malaysia. The biggest GSC cinema is located at Mid Valley Megamall, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. The first GSC cinema to operate in Malaysia was opened in Kota Kinabalu on 14 July 1981. With the opening of the 8-screen cinema exclusively in Tropicana City Mall on June 23, 2009, GSC operates the largest circuit with a total of 212 screens in 24 locations. 37841 seats all throughout the country. All of which are located in prime sites in major cities and towns throughout the country.
2. A waiting area for GSC customers should be provided at every chain of GSC.This waiting area completed with facilities that will help to satisfied the need of GSC’s customers. However as an initial step, the waiting area can be set up at One Borneo, Kota Kinabalu Sabah. The facilities includes Television (LCD) to entertain the customers while waiting for time to entering the hall, magazines racks to provide reading materials for customers, Vending machine for snack, fast food and soft drinks, seats so that customer can rest, toush screen kiosk to preview the latest movie trailler of GSC and Wireless Internal Access (WiFi).
1. Problems Statement
2.1 Customer lost interest as there are no waiting area.
Customers are tired waiting for the movie to start because there are no comfortable place to rest in between movies. Some people might go shopping while waiting for the movie to start but those who don’t want to wander around can rest in GSC waiting area. Customers not only can rest but they can surf the internet, read magazines or they also can buy foods from the vending machine that we provided. Televisions are also provided so that customers can watch the thrillers of the movies that we are about to show.
2.2 Crowded front counter area makes it hard for customers to purchase tickets.
Based on our observation during the peak hours, customers mostly will gather around the front counter area to watch for the movie list and that makes it hard for other customers to purchase tickets.By setting up a waiting area, customers who have purchased tickets can go to the waiting area and rest. Thus, the front counter will not be crowded as it was before.
2.3 Elderly and children don’t like to come to the cinemas.
Customers, especially elderly and children; those who tire easily don’t have to walk around the shopping mall while waiting for the movie to start. So, waiting area will accomodate every customer who comes to GSC.
2. Objectives of the projects.
1. To increase profit.
By set up a waiting area, profit for this group will be increase. This is because place like this will attract more customers. Furthermore there is no such place where people can enjoy reading, watching television and surf Internet while waiting the time for the movie to start. Therefore, this will attract more customers.
2. To provide a comfortable place for customers to rest while waiting for their movie.
Some of the GSC’s customers have problems to find a place where they can sit and rest while waiting for their movie to start because there are no sit provided by GSC to their customers. So, by setting up a waiting area, it can solve this problem.
3. To aviod the problem of customers cancelling plan to watch movie.
There are possibility that the customers want to cancel their plan to watch the movies if the gap of time of the movies is around two to three hours because some of them do not intend to do any other activity but watching movies. Therefore, with the waiting area, they can spend their time while waiting for the movie to start by reading magazines, watching the thriller of new movies and also serve Internet using their own gadget.
3. Significance of the project.
1. To increase GSC’s Profit Margin.
The profit margin will decline if customers decided to cancel their plan to watch a movie in GSC. So, setting up a waiting area is one of the measures taken by the companies to threat their customers well. The customers will feel better and less tired waiting more than one hour in the waiting area instead of feeling tired walking around the mall just to meet the time for their movie to start.
2. To show that GSC is concerned about customers satisfaction
By having a waiting area, GSC’s customers do not have to worry about buying their ticket up to one to three hours earlier than the time the movie started because they can wait in the the waiting area instead of walking around in the mall just to meet the time fo their movie to start. The customers can enjoy themselves using all the facilities provided in the waiting area. In addition, an announcement will be made 15 minutes before the movie begin to remind the customers. This will help to make sure the GSC’s customers are satisfied and comfortable before watching their movie.
3. To attract more customers.
Waiting area will attract more customers because it makes waiting more comfortable, besides GSC waiting area provides vending machine for snack and WiFi for internet surfers.
4. Procedure
1. Interview the customers.
Give an order to several employees to survey on their customer to get their opinion and suggestions about the facilities in GSC. This is to find out the type of facilities that GSC needs to provide in order to fulfill the customers need.
2. Select the team for the project.
Since there are two branches in Sabah, so two representatives were elected, these representatives each come from Kota Kinabalu branch Suria Sabah and One Borneo Hypermall. The reason to elect each representative from two different branches is to encourage corporation amongst the branches. These chosen representatives had been endowed with responsibility to ensure the proposal to succeed. These representatives will be put under the Marketing Manager responsibility and they will report to this Manager.
3. Conduct a meeting.
A meeting will be conducted. This meeting must be presented by all the staff of the Golden Screen Cinema. The purpose of this meeting is to inform all of the staff about the plan to open up a waiting area. The employees also must be informing about who will represent their respective department.
4. Work out the budget for the project.
After determine the draft of the project, we need to determine the expected cost to complete the budget successfully. The budgeted costs were allocated based on its nature for example capital expenditure, fixtures and fittings and electronic and electrical appliances, and also monthly expenses.
5. Find out the source of fund to run the project.
The initial step is to view the financial position of the company. Half of the overall budget will be purposed from the main company of GSC and the other budget will be obtain from several sponsor such as commercial break from KFC.
