Ground_Rules

Explain the ways in which you could establish ground rules with your learners,and which underpin behaviour and respect for others. Ground rules are generally common sense and can be used as a form of agreement or contract between teacher and student to be referred back to if the need arises. They should be made in the first twenty minutes of the lesson. Everyone is different in the way they behave and show respect for others. Establishing ground rules would show this difference. A more mature student would have respect and behave appropriately because they chose to be there where as the younger students have to be there. Due to the age difference the ground rules would also change. A group discussion of the students views would make them feel included in establishing the ground rules. The group discussion would include such topics as Punctuality, Attitude, Offensive Language, Respect, Politeness and coming to a class Properly Prepared. And an understanding of others who may have a disability that is not immediately apparent such as Dyslexia, Deafness, or a Visual Impairment. The teacher would ask to be made aware of this in private and in the strictest confidence. It can then be decided on what course of action to take to help the student overcome the problem. In discussing the rules with the students the teacher can then establish their own rules to prove to the students that the rules are much the same for the teacher as student. Punctuality being on time to start the lesson. Assignments marked and returned on time as long as their in on time. Being Properly Prepared to teach the lesson. Respect letting students have their say when answering questions. This proves ground rules are there for both teacher and student.
