Dreams are known to have a close relationship with certain aspects of psychology. Dreams transform aspects of reality and subconscious thought from the very ordinary and realistic to the fantastic and surreal. Humans have always attached great importance to dreams, which have been variously viewed as windows to the sacred, the past and the future, or the world of the dead. Dreams have provided creative solutions to intellectual and emotional problems and have offered ideas for artistic pursuits. Conceptually, I have been greatly influenced by Herman Rorschach’s ink blot test and the concepts behind it. The Rorschach test involves the assessment by a psychiatrist or psychologist of a subject's responses when asked what he or she sees in a series of inkblots. From this I began to look past the limits of psychology in relation to the Rorschach test and began to look at dreams. On average, we spend about one third of our lives sleeping. During a portion of that time, we are also dreaming. Essentially, dreams are our method of relaxing and letting our minds drift away into a distant world. I have based a large portion of my work on this concept of dreams. Through my work I have explored both individual dreams through my dream sequences, as well as the foundation of dreams, sleep. My dream sequences are a result of two childhood nightmares which have stuck in my mind for years. With this portion of my work, I have attempted to recreate both the general story of my dreams as well as the emotions which I had experienced throughout the different stages and events which had taken place in them. Within our lives a certain sort of comfort and security is present but, for many unknown individuals, this is not the case. By using cardboard as the main material, I have not only depicted a symbol of “home”, but one of an individual searching for an ordinary life. Images within the interior of the box enable the audience to experience the determination and the hope for someone to sustain the bare necessities of life. The exterior on the other hand, exemplifies a realm that exists, not just within the limitations of one society, but further extends itself to lend credibility to the world as whole. Various symbols were employed, in both subject and composition to explore such ideas like how any begin necessities an end how we grow and develop our identity through life and yet gradually become forgotten after we die; replaced only by a number (the symbol of our existence). You can only depend on yourself, freedom, loneliness... you can just save yourself then depend on others. Explore the lives and relationship of the intergenerational group of women and the differences of motherhood though people, marriage, adultery, loneliness and self-knowledge. Explore the life of a person or women in particular. From: -child -teenager -relationships -adulthood -marriage -motherhood -loneliness -experience Recycled art and design, green art and extraordinary art from everyday objects all stimulate the imagination in ways ordinary works can rarely achieve – and cardboard art is no exception. Recycled and environment friendly, the following artwork is not just an expression of the artists’ points of view but is also a statement about the nature of art itself.
