Grades

Are Grades Really that Important' Grades are essential part of a college student and the classes they take. So bring up the question whether grades should be abolished or are they necessary to a good education is a great debate. But in reality grades should be abolished for a couple of reasons. When apply for a job they are not going to look at the fact that a student made a B in Calculus III or the student has a 3.6 GPA. They are going to look at and evaluate what the student learned and how well do you apply it in to their career. The letter grade means nothing when to the workforce world. A student who made C’s all the way through school can still compete in the world of competition with a student who made all A’s. It is a student’s experience and knowledge of their career that will take them and move them up the success ladder of life. The college system try to conditions students to work for a grade rather than the knowledge the grade is supposed to represent. Students should be studying because they need the knowledge to pursue whatever obstacles and achievements life has for them. Now with the abolishment of grades, instead of students being slaves to the system, is free to pursue whatever he or she likes. They may want to get a low level job that does not pay much or challenge him or her. They may decide that this fills my needs and show that now he or she is contributing to society. They are not wasting time and money studying to get a grade. Now after life begins to become a reality, the student may want to do something more demanding. He or she may discover that in order to do this, they will need certain skills or knowledge. This is when he or she may very well return to college and pursue his or her studies with the right attitude. Since now the student is working, not for a grade, but for knowledge. He or she will not only work hard, but will demand that those teaching them work as hard. The abolishment of grades would not only benefit students by getting rid of those who should not be there, but also would benefit by making college institutions more accountable in meeting students needs Some students have had personal hard times relationships with grades and relating them to life. College is basically the times for the study of one's career. You no longer really need a GPA, except for the purpose of showing it off to other people. In college, it is time to be graded just like how they would grade you in real life. You either get it or you don't. A student from Florida State University quotes “Grades should be abolished because half of the students do not study but they get good grades, but the ones that actually study tends to not get good grades.” With this being stated it does not mean that the student did not learn the material that was at hand, but shows that they chose to study or not study just to get the grade. Students do not need the added stress of grade pressure and worrying to excel in their educational goals. They will be more motivated and willing to learn work ethics skills and knowledge in a grade-pressure-free learning environment. Every encounter should be hands on, semi one-to-one, practical in-class workshop atmosphere. It is a person's own loss if he or she does not at least try, refuses to participate, or fakes the learning during the class session. Learning should be at least somewhat fun, and not a suicidal endeavor. The grading system gives off a negative representation of college systems as it provides an inaccurate depiction of students and their ability to achieve or not achieve in various academic activities. In conclusion to grades being abolished shows a good representation to our next generation of leaders growing up. They should not feel that if they do not get a B on that research paper on the John Hitler and The Berlin Wall or an A on that Linear Algebra test that it will determine their future in their career. Grades need not be the representation of a student existence as a student. But as a student go after the highest grades possible, but do not be frustrated by them. There are still boundaries that apply in the college system but abolishment of the grades will make students who are serious about their educational careers to take what is really important from their courses and apply them is in the world of competition.
