QUESTIONS
1. BRIEFLY EXPLAIN THE SEVEN ELEMENTS OF THE SPEECH COMMUNICATION PROCESS. HOW DO THESE ELEMENTS INTERACT TO DETERMINE THE SUCCESS OR FAILURE OF A SPEECH' 1)SPEAKER, SPEECH COMMUNICATION BEGINS WITH THE SPEAKER. IF THE SPEAKER IS UNCLEAR OF WHAT HE OR SHE IS TALKING ABOUT THE WHOLE MESSAGE CAN BE LOST.2) MESSAGE IS WHATEVER THE SPEAKER IS TRYING TO COMMUNICATE TO SOMEONE ELSE, THIS CAN BE THE NEWS, WEATHER, MATH ETC.. BUT IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THE SPEAKER BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE CLEARLY SO THAT HIS OR HER MESSAGE IS RECEIVED BY THE AUDIENCE AT HAND. 3) CHANNEL IS THE MEANS BY WHICH A MESSAGE IS COMMUNICATED; EXAMPLES OF THIS WOULD BE A PUBLIC SPEAKER, A TELEVISION, POLITICIANS, TEACHERS ETC..4) LISTENER, THE PERSON WHO RECEIVES THE MESSAGE AND THIS COULD BE THE PERSON READING THIS , OR THE PERSON AT HOME ON THE COUCH WATCHING TV.5) FEEDBACK, THIS COULD BE THE RESULT OF WHAT THE SPEAKERS MESSAGE CAUSED, SOME SPEAKERS DO NOT HAVE IMMEDIATE FEEDBACK SUCH AS NEWS REPORTS, HOWEVER SOME MAY HAVE FEEDBACK WITH QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS SUCH AS A POSTGAME INTERVIEW.6) INTERFERENCE, IS ANYTHING THAT IMPEDES THE COMMUNICATION OF A MESSAGE AND AN EXAMPLE WOULD BE IF PEOPLE WERE RIOTING WHILE A NEWSCASTER WAS BROADCASTING. THE FINAL IS SITUATION AND THIS IS SIMPLY THE CAUSE FOR THE SPEECH IE RUNNING FOR MAYOR. THESE ARE ALL IMPORTANT TO A SPEECH BECAUSE IF THEY ARE ALL NOT COVERED THAN THE MESSAGE MAY NOT BE EFFECTIVE AS THE SPEAKER WOULD LIKE.
2. Why is it normal and even desirable to be nervous at the start of a speech' Statistics prove that most people are nervous before speaking. Adrenaline starts pumping through your body to deal with the stress. Overtime this can be easier to deal with because you learn to adapt to the situation because your body gets more repetition of speaking in front of people. Some people never quite get comfortable talking in front of audiences yet still manage to.
3. From your experience, how have you been able to identify when a speaker is nervous' What are the signs of speech anxiety' When a person stutters a lot I can tell that he or she is nervous. Other signs that may let me know they are nervous is if they tend to look down at the ground instead of the audience, not being able to stop playing with their fingers are other examples of nervous behaviors that I have noticed.
4. What methods can you use to control speech anxiety' Transforming that nervous energy into positive energy and gaining speech experience are two ways to deal with anxiety. Some people may never overcome it but rather deal with it due to the experience that they gain. Doing you research and ensuring all your facts are in order also reduces the chances that you will not be fully prepared to give your speech
5. What is ethics' What are the ethical guidelines for public speaking' Why is a strong sense of ethical responsibility vital for public speakers' Ethics the branch of philosophy that deals with issues of right and wrong in human affairs. The ethical guidelines are to ensure you are ethically sound. For example you do not want to advertise the use of alcohol if the audience is a high school.
