Going Back To School Samantha E. Morrison-Jimenez ENG121 Kathy Conner May 9, 2011 Going Back To School As an eighteen year old girl, graduating from high school, I was ready to take on the world. I was attending Ball State University, majoring in Legal Assistance, I was ready to go. I graduated from Ball State and worked as a legal assistant for eight (8) years. Then reality hit and the attorney’s I worked for dissolved their partner ship and I was out of a job that I loved. What was I going to do now that I didn’t have the job I loved' I worked several different jobs, none that I really loved, like being a legal assistant. One day I was speaking with my best friend about my current job as a purchasing assistant, and she said, “Why don’t you go back to school'” It made me really think about what I wanted to do the rest of my life, since I couldn’t do a job I loved unless I moved away. So, I applied to Ashford University and was accepted. I guess I didn’t believe I was accepted so fast and now I am starting classes. In my mind I wonder, “Can I really go to school and work full-time'” Being an adult returning to school will be a challenge, but like most other people in our society today returning to school as adults, it is possible to succeed. When I was accepted to Ashford University, I was apprehensive if I could really be successful and complete my degree. In the past few weeks, I have realized that I can do it, but I have to be extremely organized. I have to make sure that all of my assignments are completed prior to the due date and the best that I can do. I have to prepare ahead of time for my written assignments. I am restructuring my life so that while I am in school, all of my other obligations are taken care of effectively. I don’t want to let anyone down while I am pursuing my degree. I know that as I continue my degree that my classes will be harder and more in depth, but I am ready for the challenge. I believe that as long as I do the best that I can, I will come out on top. I rely on God to give me the strength and guidance in where I need to be. No matter what obstacles come my way, I know that God will give me the strength and the knowledge that I need. When I graduate with my degree there are many job opportunities in forensic investigation that I will be qualified for. I am excited where my degree will take me and that I will finally be able to work in a profession that I enjoy again. This path isn’t going to be the easiest, but as my grandpa used to say, “You don’t know until you try”. And, I am read to try a new adventure in pursuing what I want to do with my life. I have a very supportive family that believes that anything I set my mind to I can accomplish. God has blessed me with a wonderful family and I am grateful.
