Gettysburg

(Gettysburg Address) Lincoln’s Gettysburg address although short, is very powerful. The simplicity and brevity of the speech really gave significance to every word he used to convey his message. That America was “conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal”, and thus the continuation of the war was necessary to preserve the foundation of the nation. It was also directed to some issues of the war which were equality/slavery and secession. His words were also meant as motivation to dedicate their efforts in the war to the unfinished work for which the dead have fought. Seeing the casualties and some confederate victories was a discouragement to the North, they needed inspiration. “The world will little note, nor long remember, what we say here” was clearly not the since this one of the most memorable speeches in American History, but he believed their courageous acts will never be forgotten which was also true. This speech stood the test of time. As I’ve stated before it is one of the memorable and significant speeches in American history. It continues to inspire America to protect our liberty and freedom, to preserve to the foundation of the nation. It has been a task for the citizens of this country to protect this foundation and principles, and it will always be. Again he stated “It is us for the living, rather to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought…, It is rather for us to be dedicated to the great task remaining before us…” ---it reminds Americans to continue to preserve the liberty and unity of the nation. Today, America even though free and somewhat united still continues to struggle for the fulfillment of this vision.
