George Lucas George Lucas is a major film director, yet has had many twists and turns in his life and career that have led him to where he is now. Like every person, he did not plan to be where he is now but as sometimes happens, life lead him along. In this paper I will discuss a little of the history of George Lucas as well as some of his movies, including Star Wars and Indiana Jones, with the styles and traits that are distinctive to George Lucas George Walton Lucas, Jr did not start as a famous director. Nor was he even aimed toward the movie and film industry. Instead, while he was growing up, George Lucas was very focused on drag car racing. He grew up on a little walnut farm in Modesto, California while his father earned a living for their family as a stationary store owner. Starting from simple beginnings, during high school he was very interested in drag racing. Unfortunately, this dream was smashed by a horrible car accident after high school. This was a turning point in his life. In a way, it was this accident that changed some of the ways in which he saw the world and caused him to change his plans, enrolling in the University of Southern California film school, and thus starting his path to fame. At the University of Southern California he made several short movies, including THX-1138 which won first place in the National Student Film Festival for 1967. He continued with film and little by little was gaining more opportunities with the film world. A scholarship was also awarded to him by Warner Brothers to witness the film, Finian’s Rainbow, being made and directed by Francis Ford Coppola. He formed a company with Coppola in 1969 which was called American Zoetrope. After working together for just one film (a full length version of THX 1138) he formed a new film company by himself, Lucasfilm Ltd. After the success of the film American Graffiti, he began what would be his most famous work, Star Wars. In order to produce all of the effects that he needed he formed another company, Industrial Light and Magic. The first Star Wars film was a major hit and really showed what was possible. After that he finished Star Wars and then worked with Steven Spielberg to produce the Indiana Jones series. He was a major influence on the technological quality of movies, making several major advancements in the industry of film.
