The Guardian Alistair Hooper walked into His office at the Government communications headquarters (GCHQ) and looked around at his hand pick and highly trained staff. He smiled to himself knowing all his years of hard work were beginning to be recognised. At forty-three Alistair was from a middle class family his father a successful banker had made millions from shrewd investments. Alistair was educated at Saint Paul’s boarding school in London followed by a first at Eaton. He entered Sandhurst and quickly rose through the ranks becoming an officer in the Royal marine commandos as head of electronic warfare troop (Y Troop). He was soon noticed by the secret service intelligence service and was fast tracked to covert operations. Alistair was a genius with computer intelligence and there was no code or system he could not hack. He hacked into other country’s computer systems to gain intelligence that could be used to our advantage in the event of a war, he also made sure that none of these countries could be of a threat to the United Kingdom. He worked diligently to perfect his security network infrastructure so no other country could infiltrate the United Kingdom’s intelligence system. As all one uses computers every day from your personal laptop to the most complicated mainframe or super computer, it is imperative that we as a nation have the best possible security infrastructure so that no threat can shut down our systems. His unit was created by lain Lobban the director of GCHQ for Alistair to be able to continually monitor and update all security systems. You would need a level 5 security clearance to enter these offices. James Middleton is 37 and comes from a working class background and always wanted to work on designing computer programs. As a teenager he was frequently in trouble for illegally gaining access to files containing highly confidential information from the FBI and the CIA. After obtaining his A levels he applied for a internship for a leading computer company. He started training as a programmer within two years of starting his job he had raised to head of department. He quickly gained the attention of MI6 and was recruited by them as a computer programmer who helped to engineer new Scotland Yard’s state of the art systems. His reputation for his outstanding genius was quickly noticed by Alistair Hooper and he was recruited to work for GCHQ. James had been developing a new defence programme. Designed to detect and eliminate all possible threats to the United Kingdom. Weather being cyber e.g. virus, hackers or other computer related warfare or physical threat e.g. military, air, sea or missile attack. This system will be the first and only programme built and designed to think and learn for itself and to act on its own intelligence. The very thought of any computer even able to do this has only ever been attributed to sci-fi and books and now after two years of nonstop research and development this new defence programme is complete. Miranda stone James Middleton’s personal assistant started her career as a police officer and was recruited to special branch for her skills in being able to break codes and find information on suspect’s mobile phones and computers and also retrieving deleted data from the hard drives of computers which have been formatted. (Computers which all the data has been removed including the operating system) At twenty nine Miranda was the youngest of the team. Her intelligence was obvious at a very young age when she could solve problems and break codes far beyond her years. At eight her parents enrolled her with M.E.N.S.A. Her flair for solving problems soon progressed onto finding lost data on phones and computer and a promising career started. Miranda had now been working for Alistair Hooper for three years and was privy to the most confidential and sensitive information she had achieved a status most professionals working within this organisation would never achieve yet Miranda for all her brilliance was not for filled or satisfied and felt others with less experience were held in more esteem when knew only two well however hard she worked and however much she accomplished she would never progress to the status she dreamed of. Alistair, James and Miranda were ecstatic they had finally accomplished what it had taken years to achieve this was the climax of all they had worked towards with such passion and determination. The Guardian the next generation of technology was finally up and running and was now analysing all military and security systems worldwide this in turn provided our intelligence services with invaluable information. July 16th 11:00am The head of The Bank of England has reported millions of pounds missing off their database no transactions or transfers had been made no systems had crashed and the money could not be traced, all internal departments have been checked and re checked. None of the departments have found any way the money could have just disappeared. 1:00pm The police, government, mi6, mi5 and GCHQ have been contacted and a full investigation has been began the prime minister is being kept informed of all developments. The white house has contacted downing street The bank of America has lost billions of dollars as in the United Kingdom there is no trace on any of their systems. 5:00pm In an unprecedented move both China and Russia have both contacted the United Kingdom reporting enormous unexplained losses in their banking systems. 7:00pm The prime minister after speaking to all head of states has called an emergency meeting of his cabinet no organisation has claimed responsibility and no demands have been received and the government is at a loss so far to understand what has happened. 8:00pm A meeting of the c has been set up July 17th 9:00am Alistair and his team have been told to infiltrate all computer systems at their disposal to try to find out where this missing money has gone. 10:00am Miranda searches for codes and erased information from the computers of the Bank of England to see it any clue can be found to through light on to what may be happening she searches all banking data at home and abroad 2:00pm Alistair, James and Miranda along with the rest of the team continue to analyze any and all new data but to no avail billions of pounds are being wiped off the stock exchanges and all have ceased trading world wide the banks have closed their doors to all customers financial transactions all over the world have ceased there is chaos on the streets from the public several country’s have reported looting and in these country’s it would seem every man for himself. James Middleton is checking all programs on the guardian when he notices the computer is evaluating more than just defence systems he starts to type in all recent activates on the system when Miranda appears and asks him to help her with a problem she has found on a security system at the bank of England’s files James logs off and follows Miranda to her office the files are scrutinised for the rest of the day with figures being looked at move recalculated but to no end. Nothing ads up or make any sense they are now no further forward from when they first started. The files are scrutinised all day with figures being looked at. Moved re calculated but to no end. Nothing adds up or makes any sense. 7:00pm Agents from mi5, mi6, GCHQ, CIA, China, Russia and from all over the world are gathering what little intelligence they can. No organisation has claimed responsibility for the action, money has been taken from all over the world and still no demands. The prime minister and all heads of states have no information on which to act and the world is in financial chaos. July 18th James logs into the Guardian worried about what he saw yesterday. He started to look through the system but could not find what he had seen yesterday. He searched the entire data base but still no sign of the data. After hours of going through every part of the system, James turned to look for Alistair and Miranda. He saw Alistair talking to a programmer and called him over. He told Alistair what he had seen yesterday and how long he had spent looking for this information which was no longer on the system. They both decided something was very wrong and Miranda was no where to be seen just when they needed her expertise. James and Alistair started taking the data apart piece by piece. Everything was correct Except for one new programme which had been added and should not have been there. They could not access the programme as it kept coming up that it was encrypted everything they put into it was wrong it just kept on coming up access denied. No one could contact Miranda her mobile was off and she was not at home. Alistair was becoming more and more suspicious and started to enter favourite passwords of Miranda’s into the system but with no success. He looked around her office for clues nothing. Then as he was leaving her office he saw a picture of her and her boy friend he picked it up pulled it out of its frame and on the back of the picture there it was 16032015 the date they had met he ran back to the computer and typed it in and then before his eyes access granted. To they’re amazement on the screen in front of them was all them was the details of a Swiss bank account containing millions of pounds of stolen money. They brought up the recent transactions and found that the funds had been transferred from different accounts of different banks from all over the world including all the missing money from the Bank of England and The Bank of America. Also on her computer account were the details of a virus designed after the transactions took place to erase all financial data from all of the different financial institutions worldwide. Also on her desktop was a folder market tickets he opened it and inside were the details of a private charter flight leaving London city airport the day before but there was something odd about it there was no detonation entered it just said classified. He could not believe Miranda was responsible for all of the mayhem which was taking place all over the world. Her knowledge and skill with codes had allowed her to steal millions worldwide. James knew now she did not need his help when she called him yesterday and that she just wanted to get him away from the computers for long enough for her to get rid of the incriminating evidence but she had forgotten about that picture in her office. They were both speechless to think someone who they had trusted with top secret information had betrayed not only them her work colleagues but the country as well. Alistair left the office ran to his own and sat down to gather his thoughts he could not think straight Miranda was highly trained, intelligent at the top of her field why would she do this, he could not answer. He picked up the phone and dialled Dowing Street he was soon talking to the Prime Minister and explained all that had happened. Miranda was enjoying her new life sitting on her private beach smiling to herself. She had pulled it off right under they’re smug little noses. Her boyfriend came over to her and they laughed and chatted making plans for their further. Miranda was the world’s most wanted women. Her details had been disrupted to every law enforcement agency worldwide. The newspapers and television showed pictures of her daily. Rewards for any information however small were offered. She must and will be caught. Even the best disguises don’t always work. Miranda thought on one would recognise her with the makeup perfect. But only a computer can achieve face recognition she was finally caught by the same system she herself worked with for years. It sealed her fate. Miranda is now working another system a system which she has no control over The Prison System. Alistair, James and the team still analyze all of the data that The Guardian Produces and ensure that the country is safe from all threats, but they are still amazed at what this system can do. But now they have a bigger problem on their hands cleaning up the damage that Miranda has caused make sure all of the computer systems worldwide return to normal. By Henry Francis.
