What if you were denied rights that most citizens are guaranteed in the Constitution' What if you were treated as a second-class citizen because of what you believe to be fair' That is the case that all homosexuals in the Canada and U.S are facing. Many people feel that Gays should not and cannot be granted the same rights that they have for morality reasons. Homosexuals are not only discriminated and treated badly but they are also denied the rights that should, lawfully be theirs. Many Americans see no reason why Gays should be granted their right to marry. They base their argument on the bible and quote certain scriptures. Another main argument is that the word marriage means the union of one man and one woman. This is a long-standing theme of most major Western religions such as Christianity, Islam and Hinduism. The word marriage is socially and constitutionally defined as the voluntary union of a man and women under the law. These notions of marriage have been passed on through many generations. Even though homosexuality existed in the past, it was never recognized in the society. However the gay rights movement came alive In 1951 with the finding of first national gay rights organization which was known as The Mantachie Society. Suddenly, homosexuality became a controversial issue in society as, these organizations started demanding their rights, freedoms and acceptance of society. Individual Under a proposed bill known as the Defines of Marriage act, marriage is defined as “a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife.” Furthermore, it defines a spouse as a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or a wife. However , the gay community disagrees with this concept of marriage, they are demanding that their rights and freedoms are being violated by this law. S.2 of the Canadian charter
