Gambling has been around for so many years. Some forms of gambling are legal while others are not. There are many pros and cons to everything in life. I am choosing to write about gambling because there has been a lot of debate recently about it. Alot people have mixed feelings about the growth of legalized gambling. Some see it as a harmless activity. Others are concerned about some of the more serious consequences related to gambling. One of the most serious consequences related to gambling is addiction. When a person is addicted to gambling some bad things can occur. So the question is should gambling be allowed to stay the way it is, should it be strictly regulated, or should gambling be illegal' Some may argue that gambling has evolved into an American pastime and should stay that way. In this view gambling is not a problem. Gambling creates some jobs, and helps local economies. The second option is to regulate gambling to make it safer. Although gambling can be a fun activity, it can also be very dangerous to those who abuse it. There are several different ways the government could regulate gambling going on legally. One way to regulate gambling is to force states to stop promoting and advertising their lotteries. They can also stop casinos that give out free alcohol or any other type of complimentary services. Overall gambling can be dangerous to some of the United States citizens and the government has a duty to protect them from such risks. The third option is to completely outlaw gambling. This would stop any further growth in gambling what so ever. Gambling helps make people believe that they can get something for nothing and success is achieved by luck and chance rather than by hard work and intelligence. One big argument as to why gambling should be legal is because we can tax it and benefit a large amount of money from it. The taxes we would collect could fund new schools and programs for kids. People will gamble even if it’s illegal so we might as well intervene and profit ourselves. I think as long as it is regulated and controlled then taxing it would be a great idea. Not only would we benefit from the taxes but the economy would get running better. The taxes collected can fund a research group that may create a new cure for an illness. The money available from taxing gambling could help us out in so many different ways. Another reason why gambling should be legalized is because people should have the right to throw their money around as long as it's not directly hurting others. We should have the right to spend our money however we want without hurting others. We should be able to control all controllable variables that come with gambling. Such as our emotions. There’s always cons to anything and everything. A problem with legalizing gambling is that it causes addictions. Then we would probably end up spending the money collected from taxes helping those people who have encountered major problems with gambling. A long with the addiction one can have personal problems at home due to money problems and time restraints. Another reason why it should be illegal is because it will lead to more crime. People would be at higher risk of fraud. Anytime you’re dealing with large amounts of money others will think of ways to rob you. This will then lead to more crimes. Gambling has been an important national issue for decades. It is hard to say exactly who is right and who is wrong when it comes to the three opinions on gambling. In a way all three sides are right in their own way. Gambling is an American pastime, it could also be made safer, and gambling is a business that can be dangerously addicting to some people. There are many possible solutions the problems associated with gambling. Taking a percentage of the gambling tax and putting it towards public programs would be a positive contribution from gambling. I do think gambling will stay how it is now. Some forms will be legal and it will always be regulated. I say this because I believe this is the most simplistic way to go about it. Although there are many possible improvements that could be made in the gambling industry, they will never be able to please all sides. Hopefully government can find a way to make gambling a safe American pastime.
