Galileo

To compare myself against a famous person from the past can be quiet difficult yet it can be discovered that even the smallest things are what we both are fascinated by. Galileo Galilei was born in Pisa, Italy on February 12, 1564. He was the oldest among his siblings, just like me. Galileo, however, has six siblings while I only have two. I do not think I could handle that many siblings anyways. Galileo’s father wanted his son to work somewhere in the medical field because of the salary involved. However, for me, both my parents want me to work in the medical field. I’m still trying to figure if they want me to work in the medical field because they’re both nurses or because it’s a stable job. I think it’s a mix of both. At the age of eleven, Galileo’s father sent his son to a Jesuit monastery. Four years later, when Galileo was fifteen, he announced to his father that he wanted to be a monk. It then resulted to Galileo’s withdrawal from the monastery. As for me, I have no intention of being a monk. I might however become a nun though just to see the reaction on my parents’ face but it probably won’t have as much of a salary I would be willing to earn for a living. Now as his life progressed, Galileo had been in a desperate need of money, so in order to make money, he came up with many devices to help him succeed in such a goal. Most of the money was needed to help him care for his little siblings along with his own family. Personally I would go and find a job to help support my family and not find a way to invent a new device seeing as to how there is already new technology coming out every day. Rumors of a new invention called a spyglass that can let far objects seem nearer caught Galileo’s attention, leading him to make his own contraption, but with a better power. Such an invention led him to have a raised salary and the spyglass of back has been renamed as the telescope. Using the tools he made, Galileo started to observe the skies. What did he find' The Moon is not as smooth looking as they thought. It was and still is filled with craters and valleys. Also, there were findings of other planets orbiting around, along with other moons too. These observations concluded that everything did not revolve around the Earth, but rather, all the planets and other matter revolved around the Sun. For me, I just like to gaze at the sky and see the formations that we know today for example as the Big Dipper or Orion, and make up random formations as part of my imagination, but sometimes I look through my telescope, mostly if it’s really dark and clear out though. Now, Galileo’s claims were a huge controversy. Why' Because the fact that he said that the Earth revolved around the Sun, and not the Sun revolved around the Earth, went against the Bible. The Bible has a quote concerning that God had caused the Sun to stand still and having the day be lengthened. Galileo said that although he is saying that the Bible is not wrong, it is wrong however take the Bible literally. He was charged for heresy by the court and a similar matter had occurred earlier on, where the pronounced guilty was burned to death for such outbursts. As he grew old and weak, he finally confessed to the public that the movement of the Earth around the Sun was preposterous, but he also whispered at the end, “and yet it moves”. I would not want to be in such of a position as what Galileo had experienced party because there’s just too much controversy for me to even handle. Finally, Galileo went into house arrest where he then grew sick, became blind, and then finally died. In conclusion, I have never found another law of science (and probably never will). I will never drop out of college. I will probably never discover something as profound as the telescope, I will not spend the rest of my life under house arrest by the church, nor will I experience such a situation with the public that also concerns religious factors in my lifetime, or so I think.
