Community Activities I am involved in community service at the A-MED Community Hospice. I really enjoy going there to volunteer because it makes me feel like I am helping people that have lost any hope they once had. I mostly make myself available to the older people in case they need a hand to do anything. The way I got involved was through some of my friends that found this add in Starbucks and they thought it would be interesting to volunteer at this nursery home. After attending information sessions and reading all the manuals we had in order to prepare for out first visit I felt excited to volunteer but nervous if the people didn’t like me, especially I was nervous because for once I knew what to expect. Luckily I really enjoy spending time with the old folks because I cant get enough of their stories and its important they tell them. I feel helping people is something that just naturally comes to me because I have been able to experience new things through A-MED because it helps you to appreciate all that you have and that unfortunately other lack. At first when I signed up for A-MED I felt incapable of being in a place like a hospice but thankfully I feel myself when I go to the nursery home and I have built strong relationships with the residents. The relationships we have built help to better understand the purpose of community service because you actually see your actions have a good effect on the residents who are looking forward for the youth volunteers to attend. Pets I currently have two dogs and they are Candie the Chihuahua and Papi (Not sure what breed he is. All I know is that he‘s hedge). Candie lives inside with us and is treated a princes because she is a princess according to my parents. I often find myself thinking my parents wouldn’t think twice to include her in their will. Candie is a total diva she always gets her way and if you want to get her mad just pretend to hit my mom or dad. Candie absolutely despites pedestrians, and does not appreciate it if you sit on her Bratz sofa. My mom loves Candie so much and always says Candie is the only one who understands he. Candie knows many unique tricks ranging from crying when we leave her alone in the house to chasing after them if she feels bothered. Papi ,on the other hand, is the complete of Candie. Papi is the most playful loving dog you can ever have. Unlike Candie Papi is larger so he stays outside. I think Papi secretly loves to have all eyes on him because he always seems to run away with any other dog we have and find his way home, unfortunately when he comes back its just by himself and the other dog never comes back. Papi is a good guard dog because he chases off people because they are all scared of his appearance but what they don’t know is that Papi is a big softy. Both my dogs have opposite personalities but they are still part of the family. Hobbies It was 7th grade English with Ms. Hernandez and I cant recall what we were working on during that class period. All I remember was that as soon as I was finished doing that assignment I went and turned it in. When I handed in the assignment she handed me a sheet with two different squares with numbers, she explained the instructions and I got to working. I must have erased that sheet about 20 times until I thought I had it but it was wrong again. From this day grew my passion for Sudoku Puzzles. Since then I have completed about 27 Sudoku puzzle books filled with puzzles. I really enjoy doing puzzles because they help me to improve my problem solving skills and the more I practice the better I get. Sudoku puzzles are time killers and I usually always have them laying around in case I get bored or have nothing else to do. Sudoku is like problem solving along with logic it has no math and its very simple once you understand the rules. Since they don’t contain math its more about anticipation and placement. I love doing Sudoku puzzles because I loose track of time but can always check if I am correct in the back. Family Traditions/Rituals When my grandma was alive every Wednesday we ate chicken so we began saying Wednesdays were chicken Wednesdays. My family has always enjoyed the company of other friends when we are having a reunion or anything else so we tend to invite too many people and then realize that we have to go back to the store and get more food. We also have a tradition in New Years to always eat 12 grapes and drink cider at the same time when it’s the countdown until its 12:00 am. My family has very Mexican traditions like having a fifteen for your daughters and like doing your first communion and your confirmation, church Sundays, go to the flea market Saturday or Sunday. My mom always has cake waiting for us at home when its out birthday and she wakes us up with Las Mananitas by Los Tigres del Norte. Other than that my family has a Hispanic culture and celebrates many holidays.
