Name of Conflict
The name of the conflict I am reporting on is The Civil War, also known as the “War Between The States”. The United States actually never had what people call a Civil War. A Civil War is defined as a struggle between two or more factions for control over a central government. The North and the South both had two separate governments, therefore there is a debate on whether the war should be called a “Civil” War.
Dates
The Civil War had a lot of dates to remember but some of the most important dates to remember were dates like November 6, 1860 when Abraham Lincoln was elected president of the United States of America. On December 20, 1960 South Carolina secedes from the Union and is followed by more states from the South. The Confederate States of America was formed on February 9, 1861 and elected Jefferson Davis as there president. The Civil War started on April 12, 1861 at 4:30 a.m. when Confederates opened fire at Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina. There were a lot of battles between the Confederates and the Union States but the war ended in May 1865 after Confederate forces surrendered.
Describe the Conflict
The American Civil War is the conflict between the Union and the Confederacy. In the beginning the armies went in motion because of the attack on Fort Sumter in April 1861. It then became a fight to preserve the Union and the Confederacy. Soon it became a fight to preserve the Union while the Confederacy was fighting for Independence and the right to keep slavery in the south. Also, the South wanted slavery to stay and the North wanted it abolished. this mad both side dislike each other more.
Where did it Occur
The Civil War was fought in several different states but was mostly fought in Virginia and Tennessee. There were around 10,000 battles fought and 40% of them were fought in these states. The following territories are where battles took place: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Indian Territory, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Arizona and New Mexico Territory, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Washington Territory, and West Virginia.
Countries Involved
The American Civil War was only fought by the American states. It was a battle between the Confederate States and the Union. It was a fight for power between these two groups of people in the United States of America. Therefore, no other countries were involved in this battle.
