Peguese1 Desmond Yuki Peguese Ms. Sherrard Expository Writing 2 10 November 2012 The Art of the Homo sapiens While I was researching about the human evolution process, I discovered websites about Homo sapiens. These websites included how the Homo sapiens survived, the cave paintings, and how they were able to communicate with each other. The Homo sapiens were really creative because they drew wonderful art on the walls of caves. The paintings were used as a form of communication and imagination helped create creative art works. The first topic I will like to discuss is the role that communication played in making creative art. Homo sapiens first had the ability to talk. This is how they were able to survive and become us today. The communication skills they had helped the Homo sapiens create art. (“They were the first known communicators, having speech abilities, and were the first artists.”)(Leonard Shlain). The first point is that the Homo sapiens were the first people to communicate and thus being the first group to create art. If the Homo sapiens did not learn to communicate, we would not have art today. The speech ability had to do with the evolutionary growth in the head. During the last evolutionary growth from the last 1000 years, the brain functions split in two right/left hemispheres that let humans talk. I can imagine what it would be like if we did not Peguese 2 have evolutionary growth in the head. We would still be like the Neanderthals today the world would be a lot different today. The next point I am going to explain is that the Homo sapiens communicated through the art they made. The Homo sapiens did not create art just to create art. They had a purpose to create the art so they can have a form of communication. Also the art works helped the Homo sapiens get organized. (“The creation of art requires the ability to reason, plan ahead and express feelings.”)(Cook). Without art there would be no visual effects. With no visual effects than there would have not been a way to have the ability to reason, plan ahead, and express feelings. It wasn’t until the last Ice Age, that the full range of human artistic skills was formed. Another, supporting evidence that I have is that the advance speech system paved the way for more sophisticated forms of communication. Art is a very important way to express beliefs. The final topic I would like to address is the human imagination helped progress art done by the Homo sapiens. The first point of this topic is that children shows more signs of creativity than their parents. Human imagination is very important because you need it to make creative items in life. Without imagination life would be extremely boring to live. This is why the Homo sapiens created art paintings. (“With human imagination the homo sapiens now had an extremely powerful tool at their disposal: it would change their lives forever.”)(Donald Louis Hamilton). Human imagination makes a big difference in the artwork that the Homo sapiens made. Imagination gives art creativity and without that art would become very dull and not interesting to look at. Now the first supporting evidence I have is that these kids were able create cool and wonderful beads as well as other materials made from bone and teeth. These kids grew up and started crafting things. Without them doing this we would not have the imagination skills we Peguese 3 have today. There was a new “special sense” that allowed people to visualize within their head, to plan ahead, to create new abstract words, languages, to think verbal thoughts, and form one’s own opinion. This was one of the many factors that helped the Homo sapiens survive the last Ice Age. The following point I will like to make is that human imagination helped mankind progress into the humans we are today. A cool way that the human imagination progressed humans is the things we have today in order to live. The Homo sapiens helped us by using their imagination to create things like weapons. Without weapons we would be in mortal danger because we would have no way to protect ourselves from trouble. (“The new weapons and tactics, the imaginative humans can now protect themselves better from predators.”)(Donald Louis Hamilton). With weapons we can live longer because we have an object that can protect us from harm. The weapon gives humans a new way for humans to hunt for food. Now there is another way for humans to progress and that way is exchanging ideas. People can exchange ideas and improve on each other’s ideas. For example, Brian and CJ share each other’s ideas then they decide that they can combine both ideas and then they can create something. This practice of exchanging ideas is beneficial for the progression in the art that is being created. Another way that the human imagination helped mankind is due in a large part to the ideas of mankind’s super imaginative minds. With we are able to create nice things that are built to last. Also with our super imaginative minds we are able to make advanced art and crafts. I was amazed at the fact that human imagination even played a big role in progressing art to the way it is and the human race in general. Without imagination we would be either extinct or our population would be closed to extinct. Without imagination we would not have the technologies we have today. Peguese 4 I would like to close things up by saying art has progressed over thousands of years. We can thank the Homo sapiens for creating and modifying art because without them our art today would be bland and boring. Communication and imagination helped transform art to the way it is today. The Homo sapiens did not create the cave paintings for fun they used as a mean of communication. Also the Homo sapiens used their imagination to create the cave paintings and other marvelous objects. The Homo sapiens are geniuses that sculpted their way in history that will never be challenged. Peguese 5 Works Cited "Evolution of Communication." Suite101.com. N.p., n.d. Web. 15 Nov. 2012. .
