English Language Euthanasia should be legalised Euthanasia is a complex issue that is often debated about. Euthanasia is a painless killing of a patient who is suffering an incurable and excruciating disease. At the moment, very few countries allow this procedure to occur however there are many beneficial reasons why this should be made legal in every country. Firstly, it is believed that every human has human rights; we are entitled to our own opinions and decisions. A person who is experiencing an extremely difficult life because of a terminal illness would clearly want an alternative solution to immediately stop this. Euthanasia provides a way to relieve extreme pain to a patient when a person’s quality of life is low. Euthanasia is a solution. Why then do most people insist on making this alternative illegal' People have the right to self determination. The theory of self determination is the right to choose your own path. This cannot be opposed by religious believers as God gave us freewill therefore we have the right to choose to die. Moreover, if this was made available there would be more medical funds to help a significant amount of people. It could make a huge difference to these people by the extra financial support. The Times (24 January 2007) reported that, according to the 2007 British Social Attitudes survey, 80% of the public said they wanted the law changed to give terminally ill patients the right to die with a doctor’s help. In the same survey, 45% supported giving patients with non-terminated illnesses the option of euthanasia “A majority” was opposed to relatives being involved in a patient’s death. Of course, there are counter arguments that would disagree with Euthanasia being made legal. Despite the fact that Euthanasia has positive aspects, it is frequently referred as being ‘assisted suicide’. Evidently many people feel that it is no better than murder. In a recent survey, it was made apparent that only 10% of people in the United Kingdom do not agree with Euthanasia. Under the 1961 suicide act in Britain it is illegal to assist or aid or counsel in relation to taking their own life. Furthermore, several religions strongly believe it devalues human life. For instance, in Christianity one of the Ten Commandments states ‘Thou Shall Not Kill’. If Christians disobey this rule they are intentionally breaking God’s laws, therefore they have committed a sin. They agree that God chooses when you die as he created human life, Christians do not have a judgement on they decide to end their life. Another reason why people may have conflicting opinions is that it would encourage people to have their elderly family relatives to be euthanised as it could potentially be more economical for them to have the strain for them paying care homes and medical bills. In addition, they may take real advantage of the person’s wealth. In my opinion, I strongly believe the above statement is 100% true. Euthanasia should be legalised. It is evident that many people in the UK would find this extremely helpful. Euthanasia is a beneficial resort to those that are in severe pain. Those in favour of euthanasia would agree that a civilised society should allow people to die in dignity and without pain and should allow others to them do so if they cannot manage it on their own. I think that our bodies are our own and we should be allowed to do what we want with them. So it is wrong to make anyone live longer than they want. In fact making people go on living when they do not want to violates their personal freedom and human rights. It is immoral; they say to force people to continue living in suffering and pain.
