Ayn Rand Anthem- Authors Background Ayn Rand was born on February 2, 1905 in St. Petersburg, Russia. Born into a Russian Jewish family, she did not practice Judaism as a religion and became an atheist at an early age. At the age of six, she decided to teach herself to read, becoming interested in books where she set a career path as a writer at the age of nine. In 1926, on February 18 she arrived in the U.S. and became a citizen on March 13 in 1931. Rand’s birth name can be translated into English as ‘Alisa Zinovievna Rosenbaum’. The Finnish name is pronounced in Russia as “I-na”, which she shortened after leaving the Soviet Union, into a single syllable, ‘Ayn’. Being the eldest of two sisters, Natasha and Eleanora, all of Rand’s immediate family had died. It wasn’t until 1973 that she discovered her sister Eleanora had survived World War II; however, their visit went badly and the sisters separated. Ayn works on her career as a writer, where she meets Charles Francis (Frank) O’Connor, who she marries on April 15, 1929. They remained married until his death on November 9, 1979. By this time, Rand had developed her writings which were able to be published into novels, short stories, plays and screenplays. All work came to an end when she died of heart failure on March 6, 1982. Ayn, who became such a successful writer, didn’t just breeze past Having broken many of the laws, Equality sets out running with his box, not knowing where he is going and ends up in the Uncharted Forest, where men never go. As he starts to live on his own, Liberty 5-3000 meets up with him, where they find a home and start to build a family. His new lifestyle is to let everyone know they can be individuals, have freedom, rights, honor, and a life of their own.
