1st Draft – The Essay about “The Great Gatsby”
-------------------------------------------------
Introductory Paragraph
-------------------------------------------------
Thesis Statement:
-------------------------------------------------
The protagonist of the Novel of F. Scott Fitzgerald “The Great Gatsby” named Gatsby deserved the title “Great”.
-------------------------------------------------
Fact: Gatsby showed ambition on becoming part of the upper class society, and he did reach his aim.
-------------------------------------------------
Opinion: I believe that just by trying to make your dreams part of reality, it takes a great man to do it, while Gatsby did even accomplish this dream. Because of this, I believe that he really was a GREAT person with Great ambition for further progression.
-------------------------------------------------
Fact: Gatsby’s showed a great character and great behavior during the story. He was able to manage even the most tense moments with other characters in the book.
-------------------------------------------------
Opinion: People with a great character as Gatsby have a great spirit too. The way he acted is just GREAT.
-------------------------------------------------
Fact: Gatsby showed immense devotion to his love Daisy, even when his dream of having her back was over.
-------------------------------------------------
Opinion: That kind of love and devotion towards a person can be rarely found in the World. Isn’t he Great'
-------------------------------------------------
Conclusion: As you could see, Gatsby is a very ambitious personality, a great gentleman and also a devoted lover. These are the things that make me believe that he definitely deserved the title GREAT.
-------------------------------------------------
Body Paragraph I
-------------------------------------------------
Topic Sentence: People do achieve great accomplishments throughout their life because they have ambition and optimism to do it. That’s what Gatsby had too.
-------------------------------------------------
Fact: Gatsby strived for more since he was a young boy.
-------------------------------------------------
Opinion: Gatsby was the type of person that had his long term goals from the young age, and was very determined to put his ideas in to action. He was a self-made man!
-------------------------------------------------
Fact: His first break in the outside world was when he met Dan Cody.
-------------------------------------------------
Opinion: This is the first result of his great ambition to leave that kind of life. He was not supported by his family in any way, so why should he destroy his life by staying in the farm' He did the right thing.
-------------------------------------------------
Fact: Gatsby organized those parties just because he wanted to impress Daisy, in order to get her love back.
-------------------------------------------------
Opinion: This is another example of how great his ambition was. He did all those things just because he wanted to accomplish his mission: To get his lovely Daisy back.
-------------------------------------------------
Conclusion: The example given above show exactly what a great American should be. It is the stereotype of a real American. That’s what Gatsby was.
-------------------------------------------------
Body Paragraph II
-------------------------------------------------
Topic Sentence: Being Great means being an intellectual personality, and that’s what Gatsby was good at.
-------------------------------------------------
Fact: Expect all the gossips that were spread over the city, Gatsby was a man who had become rich on his own.
-------------------------------------------------
Opinion: Gatsby has become rich without the help of anyone, and still didn’t argue with anyone about these gossips.
-------------------------------------------------
Fact: Gatsby was a quite person; no other character could make him angry or nervous in the story, except of Daisy, before their first meeting.. reunion.
-------------------------------------------------
Opinion: He was able to stay calm in front of Tom, Daisy’s Husband, who always teased him and tried to make Gatsby angry, but he never could do this.
-------------------------------------------------
Fact: Gatsby organized parties in which he called people from the entire region, even without knowing them. But what is most important: he has been the greatest host in the region.
-------------------------------------------------
Opinion: He showed respect to everyone that was invited to the party, even if it was someone who he has never met before.
-------------------------------------------------
Thesis Statement: People think of each other based on the way they act. Gatsby was Nick’s best friend, and Nick praised him for his great personality.
-------------------------------------------------
Body Paragraph III
-------------------------------------------------
Topic Sentence: The Protagonist of “The Great Gatsby” was an example of showing what loving means.
-------------------------------------------------
Fact: After Gatsby met Daisy, she was the only person that mattered him.
-------------------------------------------------
Opinion: Gatsby didn’t care for anything else after he was introduced to Daisy. He was in love from the top to the bottom. He started to neglect his own needs and wants just for her. He was showing a great person in the eyes of Daisy.
-------------------------------------------------
Fact: Gatsby wanted to become rich only to get Daisy back.
-------------------------------------------------
Opinion: This shows what a great person he was. From the end of the war until he met Daisy all he worked and focused on was how to come to her. He needed to become rich to become “eye-catching”.
-------------------------------------------------
Fact: Gatsby even after getting refused by Daisy, he still takes the fault of Daisy’s careless act: the murdering of Myrtle.
-------------------------------------------------
Opinion: This fact is enough to show why I decided to protect the character of Gatsby. He did everything that would stop Daisy from getting harmed, even if it meant DEATH for him.
-------------------------------------------------
Conclusion
-------------------------------------------------
Topic Sentence: “Gatsby turned out all right at the end”; that’s what Nick said, just at the beginning of the Story, when we had no idea who Gatsby was.
-------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------
Concluding sentence: Gatsby was truly a great man. He was able to accomplish his ideal or better said to become rich, he was a person with a great character, and he was a person with a great heart. This was all about Gatsby, the Great!
