WA # 5 Carlos Beltran December 3, 2010 An essay that struck me as a bit interesting was one written by Suzanne Britt. The essay she wrote is called “Neat people vs. Sloppy people”. In this essay she explains in vivid details which are comprised completely of her own opinions on both neat people and sloppy people. Now as you read the essay it is easy to see which side she favors the most and which side she dislikes the most. In this essay, you will read the opinions of Suzanne Britt on Neat people vs. Sloppy people, alongside some personal afterthoughts and interpretations. In paragraph two, Suzanne states by saying that “Sloppy people you see are naturally sloppy. Their sloppiness is merely the unfortunate consequence of their extreme moral rectitude. Sloppy people carry their mind’s eye a heavenly vision, a precise plan, which is so stupendous, so perfect, it can’t be achieved in this world or the next.” Now it is really obvious that she is defending the sloppy people by saying that their sloppiness is to be blamed by the sheer magnitude of their mind. She seems to be praising the sloppy people by holding them in the highest esteem. In paragraph five that Suzanne wrote, she said, “Sloppy people can’t bear to part with anything. They give loving attention to every detail. When sloppy say they’re going to tackle the surface of a desk, they really mean it, not a paper will go unturned, not a rubber band unboxed, four hours or two weeks into the excavation, the desk looks exactly the same, primarily because the sloppy person is meticulously creating new piles of papers with new headings and scrupulously stopping to read all the old book catalogs before he throws them away.” She yet continues to be pro-sloppy people by explaining why their reasons for not getting everything done on time are the result of affection for objects. She gives thought to their laziness and makes it sound like it’s all a good thing. As she talks about the neat people’ it’s safe to say she goes on the offensive with them and criticizes them is every possible way. For instance in paragraph six, she blatantly says “Neat people are dumb and clods at heart. They have cavalier attitudes towards possessions, including family heirlooms. Everything is just another dust catcher to them. If anything collects dust it’s got to go and that’s that. Neat people will toy with the idea if throwing their children out of the house to cut down clutter.” For one thing her exaggerations border the absurd, but can pose for a good laugh. With her farfetched opinions she managed to shed a completely new light on the neat people, even if her opinions weren’t the most mature or realistic of opinions to be said on the matter. When reading Suzanne Britt’s “Neat people vs. Sloppy people” you can notice from the start that she points out the main differences between the two sides in the mist extreme ways, for example she said that sloppy people were sloppy and lazy because they had to grand a thought in their head, now to be honest as good an attempt it was to say that laziness is good, you cannot say that laziness is good because nothing gets done in the end and only sets people behind. She might hold harsh feelings for the neat people buy you simply can’t think that neat people honestly throw everything away. In the end, Neat People vs. Sloppy People was completely based on Suzanne Britt’s opinions, and can be viewed and interpreted differently by the readers.
