“Honoring the Bible” Bridget Ellis Informal Logic PHI 103 Professor Martin October 4th, 2013 When I was a younger, I was invited to a gay marriage of Harold and Greg, the wedding was in the backyard of their home. They held hands, hugged, and kissed each other with tearful eyes during the whole time of their wedding. I noticed parents of Harold and Greg who watched their weddingangrily. They suddenly became frustrated, separated their hands, and yelled at their sons for their immoral marriage. After two months, Harold's family moved to Phoenix so Harold and Greg could not see each other. Living in a harsh environment of Phoenix, Harold quickly adapted to the fast pace of life and started dating a lady, by the name Kimberly. Now, I look back at Harold’s life. I realized that their parents were totally correct for preventing the gay marriage. Gay marriage should not be legalized because it increases the risk of becoming HIV positive, does not line up with what the bible says, and it destroys the meaning of family. First of all, gay marriage increases the chance of getting diseases. Homosexual activities are the major causes of sexual diffusion diseases such as HIV and AIDS, gonorrhea, hepatitis types B and C, and syphilis. According to a revision done by Center for Disease Control in 2012, 48 percent of AIDS cases in America are homosexual men and 80 percent of HIV cases are gay. Furthermore, in the article "Reclaiming HIV as a 'Gay' Disease," The Gay & Lesbian Review" written by John-Manuel Andriote in 2012, reveals the studies repeatedly demonstrate that people who marry tend to be better off financially, emotionally, psycho universally an improvement , but generally legalized gay marriage will ultimately prove beneficial for gay individuals. This, in turn, will be better for gay where gays live. About half of people in the U.S. support gay marriage, far less than those who are otherwise supportive of legally enforced gay rights (about 75%). This means that many of the same people who are even passionately in favor of gay rights oppose gays on this one issue. There is a lot of misunderstanding about what homosexuality really is, as well as the erroneous assumption that gay people enjoy the same civil rights protections as everyone else. There are also a lot of stereo types about gay relationships, and even a great deal of misunderstanding of what marriage itself is all about. Gay relationships are immoral and violate the sacred institution of marriage. According to the Bible it is the law and the way of living. Somehow, I always thought that freedom of religion implied the right to freedom from religion as well. Not all world religions have a problem with homosexuality; many sects of Buddhism, for example, celebrate gay relationships freely and would like to have the authority to make them legal marriages. In that sense, their religious freedom is being infringed. If one believes in religious arguments is reason enough to discount this argument.22 “Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable. If a child is in a gay family, he or she will not find much love from a mother. On the other hand, if a child is in a lesbian family, he or she will not find out about the traits of a father. Finally, and most important, gay marriage destroy the meaning of family. According to the Webster dictionary, family can be explained in term of relationship interval and loyalty. First, homosexual relationships just last a couple of months rather than a long term relationship of a heterosexual marriage. In addition to relationship duration, homosexual relationships are not faithful to each other. Researchers point out that an average gay usually have a lot of partners in their lifetime. Although there are many people say banning gay marriages is an act of discrimination against homosexual couples, gay marriage should not be legalized because it destroys the meaning of family, does not line up with the bible, and increases the chance of getting diseases. If people carefully consider many sexual transmitted diseases that primarily affect the homosexuals. Perhaps we would not lose gays or lesbians. Since the homosexual activities are the major causes of death in homosexual couples, people should not allow gay marriage to be legalized.
