Ego Booster and Ego Buster In life the way people treat me and the words they use have affects on my mood and behavior. There are people who have raised my spirits and boosted my ego. Then, there are the ones who have negative comments about everything I do. I will be discussing one of my biggest ego boosters and one of my biggest ego busters. I will give details how these people impacted my life. I have a very close male friend named Johnny. Who thinks I can do no wrong. We have been friends for over thirty years. He moved away about twenty years ago, but we have always visited each other and we keep in touch over the phone. Every time I get down and out about things I will call him and he will lift my spirits. He has always told me that I can do anything that I set my mind to. He has never criticized me in any way. For example I got a very bad hair cut one time and I felt just terrible. I wore a hat or pulled my hair up to hide it. Johnny told me that I could shave my head and I would still look good. How sweet is that' Then when I found out I was going to be a mom I was terrified. Johnny told me to calm down that I would be a perfect mom. I have two wonderful boys which I raised by myself. They are grown now and very successful. Guess Johnny was right about that. He always encouraged me and raised my spirits when I was down. Out of all the years that we have known each other he has never had a negative word to say about me or to me. Then when I told him I was going back to school he was so happy for me. I was kind of worried because I have been out of school so long that I might not do well. Of course Johnny’s words of encouragement and happiness for me boosted me up and made me feel better. He always pushed words of encouragement, when I decided to do something. I think God that he gave me such a wonderful friend. I feel like if it hadn’t been for Johnny’s words of encouragement I might have gave up. I didn’t give up. I just knew to pick up the phone and call Johnny and he would give me the words of encouragement that I needed. There were many things that Johnny did to boost my ego. The biggest one I remember was when I got divorced from my boy’s dad. I felt like a loser. So I called Johnny. He told me that I didn’t cause the divorce and that I did everything that I could to keep my family together and that my ex was the one that lost out on a wonderful family. I realized that Johnny was right because I was married to an alcoholic and I couldn’t help him. He had to help himself. I believe I could rob a bank and Johnny would come up with a reason of why I did it for good. I would never do that. Just an example how he would boost me up no matter what. Then you have those people in your life that don’t want you to succeed. I have had ego busters all through my life. The biggest one I ever had was my ex- husband. His name is David. I met him in high school and at the time he meant the world to me. I wasn’t allowed to fix my hair a certain way or even wear makeup. If I put make up on he would tell me how bad I looked. He always had negative things to say. He hated Johnny and always made statements that Johnny and I had something going. To set the record straight I have always thought of Johnny as a big brother. When I decided to leave David because of the alcohol and the way he treated me, he told me that I would grow old by myself and I would never find anyone to love me. If I would have listened to him and stayed I would have been in a loveless marriage and been miserable. I decided to go ahead with the divorce. I met a wonderful man that treats me with respect and lets me be my own person. So in closing, I feel that the people that try to bring me down and would rather see me unsuccessful are bad for me. I try to put distance between myself and people like that. I feel like they have so much negativity that they want negativity around all the people around them. I can’t always stay away from negative people. Now when someone has negative things to say about me or to me I try to use it to my advantage. I will take what they have said and find a way to use the words to help me to become successful. People in my life that brings me encouragement and boost my ego really care for me. These people want me to succeed and become the best person I can be. I value the friends that I have that care about my success. The only advice I give is to take the negative words and use them to help you in your success.
