Do the pathways into new worlds offer possibilities or problems'
Do the pathways into new worlds offer possibilities or problems' This is a question which should be considered when entering into a new world. Good morning/afternoon miss Robinson and fellow class mates, today I am here to present to you the ideas of transitioning into a new world and address the question of whether it offers possibilities or problems.
Entering into a new world requires the growth and change of an individual who may need to make sacrifices along the way, however undeniably they encounter new experiences whether they bring possibilities or problems we will discuss using the texts ‘Educating Rita’ by Willy Russell
In the text ‘Educating Rita,’ by Willy Russell, is a play which shows that new worlds offer both possibilities and problems, however it is the way in which you deal with them that determine the outcome. In the play Rita took the pathway towards the new world of education because she wanted to have freedom and choice for herself.
Throughout the play there are many catalysts which force Rita into her new world. Her mother crying in the bar, “because we could sing better songs then these,” shows that she is uneducated; Denny her controlling husband who says’ “either I stop coming here and I could get off the pill or I could get out” and finally her flat mate Trish who showed her the value of life, “I come home and she said she had tried to top herself.
Rita was faced with many obstacles along her pathway into a new world which could be considered as problems. ; Denny her controlling husband who wants her to have a baby. This is seen through the quote “he said either I stop coming here and I could get off the pill or I could get out”. Rita however overcame these obstacles along her pathway. She had to overcome her own views of education to be truly educated, the guilt from her family and Frank who wanted to change her ideas and thinking. Rita faced a process to which possibilities either helped or hindered her world.
