Pursuit of an MBA 1
Running head: Construct and Support an Argument
Construct and Support an Argument
Pursuit of an MBA2
My choice to continue my educational endeavors was very important to me because I wanted to further myself and broaden my horizons as an individual. I’m the first person within my immediate family to continue on with higher learning. This means a great deal to me to be able to set a standard for going on to accomplish my life long dreams. Starting college right after high school was difficult because I was very undecided in my major and after a while lost interest in what I wanted to do with myself and future. Robert Frost an American Poet once stated that, “ Education is hanging around until you’ve caught on.” I started off in the community college setting where I was a very undecided major student in my freshman year. Nursing, Physical Therapy, and Pharmacy were all possible career paths that that had peak my interest, but it was unclear at the time.
“ With the cost of education going up so rapidly it’s really important that students find themselves in situations where they are not wasting there time. It’s important that students not lose there valuable time and money.” Ultimately I just lost focused in my early twenties and just stayed with working as a Nursing Assistant for a few years and I saw people in management I thought if they can do management jobs in healthcare then so can I. “It’s a commonly held understanding that if a student stays undeclared for an extended period of time or changes multiple majors multiple times, the likelihood of graduation or persisting with their education is not as high.”
At twenty - five a light bulb came one and I did a self assessment of my self and future and decided where do I see my self in ten years. When I thought long and hard I said that I don’t want to be an orderly(Nursing Assistant) for all my life knowing that I had the brains and talent to do more and to be more in life. Beginning school with the University of Phoenix was one the best investment I could have made I went there for four years and completed a Bachelor of Science in Health Administration. While going to school I was still exposed to the healthcare environment where I could add practicality to classroom learning.
After completion of the bachelors program I was looking at several degree options that were available that I want to do for graduate school. Other degree options included the Master of Health Administration or going to get an Bachelors of Science in Nursing. After carefully weighing in on my options I felt that the MBA program was more suitable for me. I want to do something still in healthcare, but more on the business side of the industry and not more on the direct care side dealing and focusing solely on patient care.
I also knew that the MBA degree is very flexible allowing me to work in different sectors of business either for profit, nonprofit, public, private or for the government. Some studies show and suggest that MBA professional degrees holders make a substantial investment on ROI. This also includes certain factors like tuition costs, top schools, the economy, and how corporate mishandling has tarnished the business world.
Taking the Jungian Personality self- assessment was very eye opening to me. After going through the assessment and the questions they ask me it made me think. My score on the Jungian 16 Type Personality Assessment was ENTJ. On this assessment the ENTJ means that I’m outgoing, visionary, argumentative, have a low tolerance for incompetence, and often seen as a natural leader. Many of the characteristics they listed were true about my personality. Career field its listed for me was in manager or management trainer which is something that I would want to do.
The Jungian Personality self - assessment was very critical of the individual of who I believe I am already. This assessment kind of confirmed things that I already knew bout myself. By doing this it showed me possible career paths that would mostly suit me and I’m very much into like being in control of my own destiny as a person. I view myself as a leader and not as a follower. Other people see me as a hard worker and person who has his goals and priorities together.
Staring a new career with the MBA degree will open up many doors for me. The MBA is an advanced business degree that will provide great career paths, along with good investment in return, but allow me to explorer career paths in management, administration, and consulting. The MBA be also makes it possible for recipients to become entrepreneurs. According to the Graduate Management Admission Council, “ In 2006, starting annual salaries for new MBA graduates was around $80,809 compared to the graduates in 2005 who earned 78, 040. Each year the wage for MBA degree holder rises. Once MBA students reach seniority levels the can expect their salaries to rise up by 50 percent.” Some of the top field with good ROI includes: Healthcare, Finance, Consulting and Energy Utilities.
Conclusion
Earning a education is something that is very important to me. It’s on a list of high accomplishments and something that I take very seriously because its my future, livelihood, and a long tem objective. Being in graduate school is something that I knew one day would happen. The MBA program will be very beneficial to me because I will be able to go out and seek jobs that I once dreamed about doing. My road to the MBA program may have been different than the next person, but I’m quite sure I will have the same similarities as the next student on why they choose to go after their dream and peruse the MBA degree.
