Here is some literature on why people should have their air ducts cleaned on a regular basis.    Q: How often should air duct be cleaned' A: The American Lung Association recommends regular cleaning and disinfecting of every part of a ventilating, heating or cooling system.  This includes humidifiers, dehumidifiers, air filters, air circulation blowers and air ducts.  Regular cleaning will not only eliminate certain health risks, it can increase the efficiency of air conditioning units by 30%.   Q: How often do air ducts get dirty' A: Your central heating and air conditioning system provides an ideal environment for the growth of mold, dust and mildew.  As these air contaminates collect on the motor and fan, they are redistributed throughout your home, directly affecting the air you breathe.   Q: What health problems can dirty air ducts cause' A: Air contaminants can aggravate allergies and hay fever, and perpetuate asma attacks.  On average we spend about 90% of our time indoors.  Children, pregnant women and the elderly who spend most of their time at home are especially susceptible to such risks.   Here is some information on our website. www.theductwizard.com. Why Clean Our Air Ducts     Here are some interesting facts to consider: •Poor indoor air quality can cause or lead to the development of chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma and hypersensitivity pneumonitis. It also can cause headaches, dry eyes, nasal congestion, nausea and fatigue. People that may already have respiratory diseases are at greater risk. (American Lung Association & EPA) •Biological pollutants, including molds, bacteria, viruses, pollen, dust mites, and animal dander enhance poor indoor air quality and may be a major cause of loss of time at work or school. In office buildings, heating, cooling, and ventilation systems are frequent sources of biological substances that are inhaled, leading to breathing problems. Americans-especially infants, the elderly, and persons with chronic diseases-will normally spend 90% of their time indoors where they may be exposed to high levels of air pollutants and other harmful substances. (American Lung Association & EPA) •Studies have shown that 20% of all illnesses are either caused by, or aggravated by, polluted indoor air. (American College of Allergists) •A 6-room house on average collects 40 pounds of dust each year. (Discover Magazine) •It has recently been found that levels of some hazardous pollutants in indoor air can be up to 70 times greater than in outdoor air. (USEPA) •Studies have indicated that two out of three indoor air quality problems involve the HVAC/Air Duct System. •Studies have shown that more than 50 million Americans suffer from allergies. •One out of six people who suffer from allergies do so because of direct contact to fungi and bacteria in air duct systems. (Total Health and Better Health Magazines) •It is now believed that approximately 10-12 million Americans suffer from Asthma.
