STUDENT NOTES EO8.1(R) COMMAND A PLATOON IN THE FORM OF A COMPANY FORM UP REVISION Words of command All words of command must be clear and powerful since the way in which they are given effects the reaction which they inspire. Each word of command is divided into three parts. ▪ Introductory. Lets the squad know what movement they are about to carry out, i.e., “MOVE TO THE LEFT IN THREES”. ▪ Cautionary. The drawn out loud reminder to the squad, i.e., “LEFT” ▪ Executive. The high pitched sharp command, e.g., “TURN” Time and pace The rates of marching, length of pace and timings of drill should be as follows: • Regulation pause. The regulation pause refers to the short pause between movements and is equivalent to two marching paces, i.e., “ONE- TWO THREE- ONE” this should be judged so as to allow 40 movements to be completed in a minute. • Rate of March. 116 paces to the minute. • Length of pace. 750mm (30 Inches) COMPANY FORM UP Company drill is a stimulating and challenging method of teamwork. It provides a logical framework for the forming up of a large number of troops for inspections and ceremonial parades. It can be modified to suit all arms by the alteration of sub unit titles e.g. squadrons, troops etc. THE COMPANY MUSTER PARADE The platoons of the company are normally formed up in line from the right in order of seniority. Each platoon has a Right Marker who is located on the right of the front rank. The Platoon Sgt is located 3 paces centrally to the front of the front rank. Supernumerary SNCOs form a rank 3 paces to the rear of the rear rank. At the same time | | | | | |the Pl Right Marker turns to the right marches out 4 paces and| | | | | |halts (Total 4 paces), about turns and dresses off the front | | | | | |rank. Once he is satisfied he commands “Stand Still the Front| | | | | |Rank.” He then turns left marches two paces, Halts, turns | | | | | |right and dresses off the centre rank and repeats the process | | | | | |for the rear rank. Once the rear rank is steady the marker | | | | | |marches forward until he is in line with the front rank, | | | | | |halts, turns left. | | |08 |Eyes Front |CSM |The parade eyes front, the Pl Sgts about turn and the Right | | | | | |Markers march 4 paces to resume their original positions and | | | | | |turn right into line and dress themselves off the front rank. | | |09 |Stand at Ease, Stand Easy |CSM |The company stands at ease. | | |10 |Company, Company Shun |CSM |As the Company 2ic marches on to the square. Once the CSM has| | | | | |handed over the company he turns to his right and marches to | | | | | |his position, 6 paces to the rear centre of the company. | | |11 |Company Stand at ease |2 i/c |Once the CSM has halted. | | |12 |Fall in the Officers |2 i/c |The platoon commanders will march on to the parade square and | | | | | |halt 3 paces centrally in front of their platoon. Once the | | | | | |last Pl Commander has halted all will turn into left line | | | | | |together. They then dress themselves off, 1 platoon commander| | | | | |continues to face the front whilst the remainder turn their | | | | | |heads and eyes right to dress off him. | | |13 |Officers Steady |2 i/c |The officers eyes front and after a regulation pause stand at | | | | | |ease. As “Fall in the Officers” is given the Pl Sgts will | | | | | |come to attention, turn right and march to their position | | | | | |which is 3 paces to the rear centre of the platoon, stand at | | | | | |ease. | | |14 |Company Shun |2 i/c |As the Company Commander marches onto the parade square. Once| | | | | |the 2ic has handed over the company he turns right and marches| | | | | |to his position, next to and right of the CSM | | |15 |Standfast |OC |The Company Commander commands the platoon he wishes to | | | | | |inspect to Stand fast and tells the remainder to carry on. | | | | | |Whilst he inspects that platoon the platoon commanders of the | | | | | |remaining platoons inspect their platoons. | | |16 | |OC |As the OC approaches the platoon commanders steps forward, | | | | | |halts, salutes and informs him “Sir No … platoon is formed | | | | | |up in the open order awaiting your inspection.” The OC tells| | | | | |the Pl Commander to carry on. The two then move off to | | | | | |commence the inspection starting with the Right Marker. As | | | | | |they move off the Pl Sgt marches round to the right of the | | | | | |Right Marker, halts and salutes. Once the marker is inspected| | | | | |he falls out and follows behind the officers with his notebook| | | | | |ready to take notes on the inspection. The Pl Sgt will then | | | | | |command. | | |17 |Centre and Rear Ranks Stand At Ease |Pl Sgt |Once the marker is inspected the Pl Sgt falls out and follows | | | | | |behind the officers with his notebook ready to take notes on | | | | | |the inspection. | | |18 |Centre Rank Shun |Pl Sgt |As the OC approaches the rear centre of the front rank. (This| | | | | |happens in turn for the rear rank). | | |19 |Front Rank Stand At Ease |Pl Sgt |As the OC is about to turn to inspect the centre rank the Pl | | | | | |Commander, Pl Sgt and marker step through the front rank and | | | | | |move back behind the OC. Once the inspection of the front | | | | | |rank is completed the Pl Sgt Commands. | | |20 |Front and Centre Ranks Attention |Pl Sgt |Once the inspection of the rear rank is complete the Pl Comd | | | | | |salutes the OC and asks for “Permission to carry on sir | | | | | |please.” The OC will inform him of his findings. As the OC | | | | | |moves away to resume his position at the front of the company.| | | | | |The Pl Comd, Pl Sgt and Marker resume their original | | | | | |positions. | | |21 |Fall Out the Officers |2i/c |Given once the OC has resumed his position and handed over the| | | | | |parade to him. The Pl Comds turn to the right, pause, salute | | | | | |and march off the parade square. As the Pl Comds march off | | | | | |the Pl Sgts march back to resume their position 3 paces to the| | | | | |front and centre of their platoon and then stand at ease. The| | | | | |2ic will then hand over to the CSM. | | |22 |In Close Order Right Dress |CSM |The platoons will move into close order, the Pl Sgt about | | | | | |turns and dresses off the platoon front to rear. The Right | | | | | |Marker turns to his right, marches 4 paces, halts, about turns| | | | | |and dresses off the front rank only. | | |23 |Eyes Front |CSM |The Pl Sgts about turn and the markers march in 4 paces and | | | | | |then turn into line. | | |24 |Pl Sgts Carry On or Pl Sgts On Me |CSM |The CSM will march off the square.
