1. Dirt Bikes Corporation is interested in information on cost effectiveness of the motorcycle industry and the economy. I will evaluate dirt Bikes concerns and will come up with a plan to recommend them in order to benefit the organization and their employees. We will discuss an intranet system, internet tools and wireless internet and the impact they will have on the organization. We will also discuss a web page for advertising and a data base for more up to date technology. Since dirt bikes offers internet to their employees that use computers on a daily basis I recommend that they create a private network for those employees. This would consist of an intranet system that is private and secure, protected by a firewall that only allows authorized personal to access. This system will allow quick fast access to needed information for sales, marketing and production quickly with just one click. It will also allow easy research of the competitors. It will help human resource department time and money because they will be able to download handbooks, calendars, and job listings and much more and be more cost efficient than having to print everything out on paper. The Manufacturing would benefit with the intranet system because they could track inventory easier and schedule needed crews to where they are needed the most. 2. An internet tool that would be helpful for the employees that works at a desk on a computer all day would be the voice over IP system [VOIP]. This would enable employees to make or take calls over a microphone at their desks. This could save the company 20 to 30 percent in communication costs {Laudon & Laudon, 2009} it would also save on long distance calls and monthly phone charges. Another tool I would recommend is wide area network [WAN]. WAN is used to connect LANS and other computers on the same network together, so that the computers and users on the same network can communicate with users and computers in other locations. Many WANS are built for particular organizations and are private. By connecting with WAN the organization can communicate throughout the departments with needed information. In order to get the Dirt Bikes Company up and running smoothly I would recommend that they install a data base system. With a data base system they will be able to input all the companies’ information and distribute the needed information throughout the company faster and more accurately. All the different departments throughout the company can also add input or print out orders as needed to distribute among the employees for filling. The company can keep track of all customers and their purchases easier for future reference in case the customer ever has a problem with their merchandise. Within the data base it will also hold all the employee personal information, company financial records securely. When the information goes to the different departments it allows only the authorized personal to access the data. The data system will allow managers and supervisors to monitor their employees and production in each department. A data base would monitor sales and marketing to assure that what is ordered is in stock and what should be prioritized for future sales. Within the data base all departments will be able track sales and orders that need 3. to go out. With a data base the company can monitor production and sales allowing human resources to be aware of the need to hire more employees or if there is a need for layoffs. Human resources can track the information on the employees through the data base, they can find out their rate of pay, their time on the job, production level along with many other factors about an employee. Dirt Bikes should be on the internet so they can advertise their bikes and other merchandise sold through the company. With being on the internet it will connect all their companies together on one site, by doing this they will be able to sell from each store and transfer merchandise from store to store if needed. They will be able to allow customers to track their orders as well as the company. Being on the internet Dirt Bikes will be able to make needed orders easier, keep track of their inventory and production level. If Dirt bikes were to build a web page they could show pictures of their merchandise, with details, specifications, and prices which would allow customers to browse at their own leisure. Web pages show prospective buyers what is offered and allows them to compare prices with other companies without having to travel all over from place to place. Along with the web site the company could also advertise for free on many nationwide sites like, Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter. Advertising through nationwide sites would be beneficial to the company because these sites are worldwide , they can advertise for free and within these sites draw a large group of people that may not of even of heard of the company Dirt Bikes but were looking to buy a bike. With a World Wide Web site the company could acquire more customers which would lead into more revenue brought into the company. A wireless network would also save staff time and help increase revenue within each department. Cell phones have become popular to use wireless network. With a cell phone you can take pictures, search the web for information and transmit 4. information to others throughout the organization. Bluetooth is another type of wireless communications along with printers, computers and other wireless devices they can transmit among each other. Bluetooth is hands free and use less power being battery operated One advantage of a wireless network is the capability of being able to move within the company. But yet wireless network is slow so therefore is not advised to use if a large file is to be downloaded. A wired network is a high speed network that is good for downloading large files but has to be used in a stationary location. Another benefit of wireless network is if you are working on a wired location and need to check up on some information you can always switch to your wireless network and take your work with you. Another downside to wireless network is that it can be a hit miss to get online, whereas wired network is guaranteed internet connection every time.
