The information is presented in such a way that it is easily accessible, and easy to understand. The website answers many of the questions that someone may have about this compound, such as “What is Dihydrogen Monoxide'”, “What are some of the dangers associated with DHMO'”, and “What are the symptoms of accidental Dihydrogen Monoxide overdose'”. The only thing this website does not educate the public about is the true identity of DHMO. My initial response upon reading the information on this website was that I believed this was truly a legitimate website about the effects and dangers of DHMO. Later on, I realized that DHMO is actually H2O. It was then that I wondered how I did not catch this obvious name earlier, so I decided to ask a few people if they knew what it was. I was surprised when not one of the people that I asked could identify what DHMO was. Even after I explained it, the people I talked to still believed that Dihydrogen Monoxide was a poisonous, dangerous compound. I think this is why some people that view this website believe that DHMO really is a horrible compound that is made for destruction and death. This website is completely justified in the information it presents. Everything they say about H2O is correct, but it is presented in such a way that the information sounds scary. If you are reading through the information on this website and believe that DHMO is a dangerous compound, you might actually fear for your safety and health. If you know that DHMO is really just water, then this website will provide a lot of laughing for you. An action that I could personally take to deal with the issues of DHMO is teaching more people about chemical formulas and names for everyday compounds. If the public stays oblivious to such simple chemical formulas, then people can be taught to believe in anything. This website is a great example of how this is possible with people. It is very easy to pull the wool over someone’s eyes if you make something sound incredibly intimidating. For example, www.dhmo.org says these facts about DHMO: “death due to accidental inhalation of DHMO, even in small quantities; DHMO is a major component of acid rain; and given to vicious dogs involved in recent deadly attacks.” Before I realized what DHMO was, I was actually very scared to hear these facts about a compound that I did not even know existed. The current presidential candidates should advise the public that DHMO is actually not something to be afraid of. Any debates generated on the topic of DHMO should be handled with common sense, and the people that ask questions about it should be enlightened. The knowledge about this topic should be spread around, so that less people are tricked. In conclusion, www.dhmo.org is a website that does a great job of scaring and tricking people into believing that DHMO is something that can kill them. Although, it is true that water can possibly kill you, by drowning and hypothermia, but the human body is about 60% water. Therefore, we as a society cannot truly put a ban on DHMO, or we will all die. But with my newfound knowledge about this dangerous compound, I can now go forth into the community and warn people to be careful around DHMO.
