UNIT 2: INDIVIDUAL NEEDS WITHIN THE HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE SECTORS TASK 1: INDIVIDUAL NEEDS (P1) Describe the physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs of all the individual groups. BABIES Babies are helpless, and completely dependent on their parent or carers to provide for their needs. Babies’ physical needs have to be met by others. For example, they have to be fed, washed, clothed, and kept warm by parent or carers. They learn to recognise their family in the first six months, like their smell, voice, or faces, and when they seen their faces they are excited. Babies need to be paying some attention for their emotional needs. Sometimes they smile or make sort of sound to attract attention from they carers. But they still dependent on their parent, who will provide physical needs and create physically and emotionally safe environment for them. Children should feel they belong to a family or group; they will have a need to feel loved and wanted. They may be able to make independent choices about their physical needs, choose their own friend and lifestyle. The need to belong to a family or care group can still be important, but they will be increasingly concerned to fit in with groups of their own age. At certain ages young people often copy each other’s style of clothing, hair and appearance. But even they are adult, they still need some assistance. They need a supportive relationship or friends to share interests with, offering guidance on daily living activities, and so on. Physical needs may be difficult to achieve; so they may need help with mobility or aspects of daily living such as dressing, feeding, cooking or bathing. Some of them have that feeling of being lonely or rejected into the society. So the do have the needs of making relationships or getting out in the community.
