Paralinguistic is the verbal communication that is with no words. Which means a person would use their tone of their voice to get their message across to an audience. This would come in pitches with loudness and inflections. Having body language is a very important form of demonstrative communication. Body language would consist of crossing your legs, touching someone, having your arms crossed, being standoffish. Getting messages from the sender to a receiver is very important with demonstrative communication. This can be used for reinforcing verbal communication but at the same time it can stand by itself in bringing its own message. With an effective message it can facilitate a positive and respectful connection. Effective and Positive Demonstrative Communication: This communication form is a positive and effective way of communicating if it is properly executed. There is a lot of different ways to accomplish this with using either one or a handful of devices of demonstrative communication. For instance when you go for an interview and meet someone for the first time, you meet them with your eyes. The first contact happens with eye to eye communication. A person can also add a pleasant smile and a nice strong handshake. While you’re in the interview you also may want to lean a little towards the person that is conducting the interview. Using these devices will show the confidence that you have to an interviewer and can also leave a great first impression. This can also assist the interviewer in gauging you with applicants that have already been interviewed. This is a good form of non-verbal communication before the real verbal communication begins. Ineffective and Negative Demonstrative Communication People use nonverbal communication on a daily basis’s, and may not notice that it is done every day. It happens in different ways, the way you dress, you’re walking style, all the way to the way you do your hair. Even though these things can be a positive communication of non-verbal, but sometimes it can also lead to a negative nonverbal communication that is unwanted. This can depend on what type of person you may be approaching, or who you could come in contact with that is unexpected. Some people may not understand the communication form that you have and not even noticing it coming off as a negative message that is being sent out. As an example, someone is being question because of an incident that happened at work. The person is asked if they have witnessed anything. The min. eye contact is loss and the stance changes and the person that is doing the questioning it can make the situation change into a negative message that is directed to that person. Avoiding or losing eye contact can be the number one most clear negative communication of being nonverbal. This can usually imply that someone lying or has a fear if confrontation. (Buzzle.com, 2012). Listening and Responding to Nonverbal Communication There are different ways to ensure that nonverbal communication is done effectively and appropriately. This will have the most effect if there is a positive boost. Responding and listening can play a very important part with ensuring the message is given to the receiver in the proper manner. Responding and listening does not have to mean verbal communication. As the saying goes “actions speak louder than words”. A lot of the time people have to listen to the words that are not spoken. This can be done by reading people’s eyes. If someone’s eyes are longing for something then they are looking for someing. If someone’s eyes are losing and/or lacking interest then you have to give that person what they need. This is a very important method when it comes to receiving and sending messages.
